  1. I did it last Saturday night. I'm doing it again tonight, Tuesday night. I'm drinking good coffee, playing on my computer, and listening to jazz (the John Patton Select). What's my problem?
  2. Masterhit smarter than Masterhit look.
  3. The Illinois box is hanging & hanging in Last Chance reminiscent of the Curtis Fuller box.
  4. I'm waiting till other people get their copies of the Amy and the Pearson. I'm waiting to read, on these boards, that there is nothing wrong with the new Selects. I don't me wrong with the music, but wrong with the documentation and/or the disks themselves.
  5. I'm remembering when most of us here, on the Organissimo board, were refugees, Blue Note refugees. We crashed a couple of boards (including the AAJ) before b3-er setup his own board here. Yeah, I suppose we should allow AAJ refugees to walk through our grounds and see what they think of them.
  6. I like Ridgeway in Canada; also whatever Tim Horton's uses. I don't believe there is a Tim Horton's in the southwest part of the USA (where I live). I had some coffee at a Tim Horton's in Columbus, Ohio a couple of weeks ago. I was talking to the clerk and advised him that Horton's coffee was far superior to the crap coffee sold by Krispy Kreme. He replied that Tim Horton's is more known for coffee. The Tim Hortons' coffee, while not being as good as what I brew at home (home-brewed coffee can be brewed the way you like it, after all), was much better than the coffee I've had at most other restaurant-type places.
  7. Seems as if this hypothesis will soon be tested: Look between Bol and Brad Interesting... he still shows as validating as of 1:00PM (Tucson time).
  8. I didn't notice the position of his hands till you pointed it out. The first thing I thought, while reading your post, somebody reversed the image. Or, maybe Eldridge played the trumpet in this manner?
  9. I started using the word like, like, several years ago. To be, you know, like, humorous? Then, I kinda, like, got in the habit of it. Now, it's, like, a part of my regular script. Like, you know what I mean, man?
  10. Ya, easy for you to say.
  11. I don't like the term, it's a win-win situation. Yes, tired of that one. I often hear this phrase in the workplace. For example, "If we raise the price of our product because we've improved our product, and our customers buy more of our product, well... it's a win-win situation." Blaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!! Whoops, there's another one I'm tired of. The workplace. Shit.
  12. I'm glad there is somebody besides just myself who noticed that the politicians and newcasters can't correctly pronounce the word nuclear. It seems like I remember Mondale and Dukakis pronouncing the word in a more nukuler fashion. Also, I've noticed TV people get the words Calvary and cavalry confused.
  13. I lived in England when my Dad was in the Air Force during the last three years of the 1970s. I was 14 years old when we returned to the United States in 1980. Ever since my time spent in England I must have milk in my hot tea.
  14. I think the Bennie Green is the best of the Select series (of what I've heard so far). I own and have listened to the Moncur through the Weston. The Green is my pick of the bunch. Its interesting, the Green is the one I expected the least from. Green has a great tone on his 'bone. I want the Horace Parlan set for Christmas. However, the only person who will buy it for me is... me.
  15. Oh. I am not a good sick person.
  16. Seattle's Best is my favorite. But, checking in my freezer, I found only Starbuck's tonight. I'm drinking Starbuck's, listening to Jack Teagarden (from the Bix, Trumbauer, Teagarden Mosaic), and playing on my computer. I suppose there are worse things to be doing on a Saturday night. B)
  17. I just started brewing a fresh pot of coffee. Anybody want some?
  18. Although it is not a bad song, and it is a song I like, I was beginning to tire of A Night In Tunisia. Then I listened to Dexter's vesion of the song on Our Man in Paris. My thoughts changed to, A Night In Tunisia, what a fantastic tune. Yes, it is the player, not the song.
  19. I don't know anything about Curtis Amy. I just now listened to the song samples from the Amy Select at the Mosaic web site. If the three sample songs are an indication, the Amy Select looks to be an excellent set of music. The cut with the organ and the valve 'bone, very nice. The third song sample with Amy on the soprano saxophone, whoo hoo!!
  20. You know, I second-guessed myself about this fact after I submitted my board post. After pressing the submit button I wondered, did Una Mas come before The Sidewinder? I was at work and couldn't look at my RVGs to be sure. According to the RVG back covers, Una Mas was recorded in April of 1963 and The Sidewinder was recorded in December of 1963. This information makes my original statement about Una Mas, quite frankly, untrue. In that Kenny Dorham was attempting to create his own Sidewinder. However, both albums were recorded during the same year and during the same style/era of Blue Note music. This information, regarding the recording date of Una Mas, adds to my idea that Morgan didn't plan The Sidewinder to be a commercial success. Rather, Morgan was following in the current style of Blue Note in those months. Jeez, maybe Kenny Dorham created the first Sidewinder and The Sidewinder was the first Sidewinder knock off? I was listening to Una Mas a few weeks ago and thought, to myself, this song is just as good (or as bad) as that damned Sidewinder! I read somewhere, can't remember where, that jazz fanatics were disappointed at the release of The Sidewinder, that Morgan had sold-out and tried to become more mainstream. I'm glad to learn/realize that Morgan was following one of the styles of Blue Note at the time, that he probably didn't plan The Sidewinder and probably didn't plan to sell-out. Maybe I should check the recording date of The Turnaround as well?
  21. I don't watch college football, hardly any football at all. I was on the Ohio State campus two weekends ago. At least, a part of the campus, the place seemed huge to me. I'm bored with Buckeyes.
  22. I believe what you write is the most accurate thing I've read about Lee Morgan and The Sidewinder. Thanks for your words of wisdom. Also, thanks for your very poignant post to this thread. Through your words I could nearly see scenes of 'you' at 18 years of age, living in New York/New Jersey, and going to college in 1964. I was born in 1966. I missed those years.
  23. I wonder if it's some kind of temporary 'drop' in the internet? Something to do with physical location or IP number? The site works for me. http://jazzmatazz.info
  24. I had to laugh at the cat ears poking through the top of the hat.
  25. As a sideline: I believe this is the first time a pic is used by two different board members in succession - this was my next-to-last ava... - ehm couwatar. If we're running out of avatars, this one is still free: Maybe... if you replaced the cat's head with a Michael Jackson head?
