  1. Looking for the two vols of Crime Jazz, issued in 1997 by Rhino. Also looking for the 2 cd set of Ennio Morricone music that Rhino made several years ago.
  2. You can kiss baseball in DC goodbye. Frankly, I think both sides needed to be kicked in the butt. Baseball for their arrogance and stubbornness, and the DC Council for playing politics and not doing the basic study beforehand of what the costs involved of building a new stadium. This has been front page news here in DC, and 50/50 split opinion on what's happening. Personally I wanted baseball in the city, but the costs involved are too prohibitive.
  3. Kevin, right now I can't even afford those. I'm on a strict budget.
  4. I wish I could afford the Analogue Productions.....
  5. Check out; www.audioadvisor.com
  6. Man, the Small group swing looks good! Time to put a few bucks aside.......
  7. If I could catch a flight and take a reeeeeeeeally long lunch, I could manage it.........
  8. The Sacds sound fantastic. I don't normally spew about audio, but these sound really really GOOD!
  9. Picked up these from CDuniverse -- breaking my self imposed ban on bying, but that went down the toilet with the BMG sale . Listened to three out of the four newly remastered reissues: Monster Movie, Soundtracks, Ege Bamyasi, Tago Mago. They all sound excellent -- full, spatial, and with a lot of punch. This band was easily 20 years ahead of its time, but they did not confine themselves to one style or sound -- each album is different than the other, yet looking at the four you can hear the development of a band from late 60's psych/prog rock to something beyond all that, eventually incorporating music from all corners of the world. Soundtracks is my favorite so far, maybe because it reminds me so much of what Sonic Youth did on Daydream Nation, and on their most recent cds -- long tunes that ue rhythms, drones, even a little jazz. It says a lot when one can hear the sounds of bands that came after this group -- these are recommended to rock and jazz fans alike. Listening to Tago Mago -- man, this is FUNKY!!!!!
  10. And then there's all those Stax and Specialty recordings.................
  11. I don't believe so. I haven't ordered from them in a while, because the dollar is so damn weak right now.......
  12. Whoops, I thought you were talking about King Records, the Ohio based label that had James Brown.
  13. Promos of OJCs have been common in the past. IN the DC area I would notice an influx of recently issued (or reissued) cds from Fantasy popping up at the usual used/new cd shops. There are a lot of reviewers in this town and so that's how they come around. I don't expect this to change under Concord -- however, I do expect the amount of reissues to diminish. I mean really, would Concord have been the one to put out the Sonny Simmons Contemporary date, or even Gary Bartz's NTU Troop discs? But who knows if there are any stipulations for buying Fantasy, and maintaining their catalog.
  14. This wouldn't be the same Soul series that featured jazz artists like Lee Morgan, Bobbi Humphry, Horace Silver, etc. There was a viewing at the Library of Congress a few weeks ago of some of the episodes. They only have a few seasons on file, but what they have is great viewing. There was a recent discussion of it in the Live Shows thread, I believe.
  15. Another thing is this: What will happen to current Fantasy artists (assuming they are contracted to the label) -- like Eric Alexander, etc.? It just gets worse and worse..........
  16. Gil Evans +10 Barry Harris Those three Larry Young "limited edition" OJCs Roosevelt Sykes!!!! Machito (Pablo reissue) Rumsey's Lighthouse All Stars! Sonny Simmons!!!!!!! Jackie McLean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh the humanity.........
  17. Funny how auctions work. Prices are all over the place. Someone's going to have a happy holiday!
  18. I'm still stuck on the issue where buying a better stereo component will cause the listener to rebuy most of his collection so that it sounds well. Sure, there is a difference from buying from Best Buy and from a niche audiophile company, and tube vs solid state, and cd vs lp. But 24 bit TOCJs? Why not SACD TOCJs? We've become so used to upgrading that I think some of us has lost sight of what listening to music is all about.
  19. Joe Gordon Melvin Rhyne All of Elmo Hope Rene Thomas Bobby Jaspar and so much more! I agree with Chuck, it will be impossible for Concord to sustain the back catalog as it is right now.
  20. more stuff added. Use this link: KINGGAB
  21. One thing I WILL miss will be the catalogs that Fantasy put out every year. Time to splurge, I guess. .
  22. NEW Lou Donaldson - Say It Loud (Water 143) Jan 11 — remastered reissue of 1968 Blue Note album; with Blue Mitchell, Jimmy Ponder, Charles Earland and Leo Morris NEW Jack McDuff - Who Knows What Tomorrow's Gonna Bring? (Water 143) Jan 11 — remastered reissue of 1970 Blue Note album; with Randy Brecker, Ola Dara, Dick Griffin, John Pierson, Ray Draper, Joe Beck, Paul Griffin, Tony Levin, Donald McDonald, Mike Mainieri If this is true, these should be VERY nice reissues! I really like the "Say It Loud" lp. Typical Donaldson greasy late 60's funk!
  23. Holy cow, you've been missing out on some good music post '74.
