  1. I don't understand the complaints about the rust. I thought it was DESIGNED to rust. A bad packaging and marketing move, but nevertheless, that was the intention, no? Personally, I like it -- as well as a kick in the pants to all those tight ass collectors in the world.
  2. Yikes. Charly is issuing this? They have a very dubious track record in terms of sound quality (and also legality of reissues).
  3. Kevin, I think the use of SACDs seem to be only in the classical genre now. Though I hope Concord/Fantasy/whatever will still do some as well.
  4. The Pharoah Sanders and Michael White discs are very nice. But there are other more interesting things they should be reissuing, like Yusef Lateef.
  5. There exists a subculture of Sonny Clark fanatics who have loads of cash to spend on ebay. The bids for this lp is high, but about average for the pressing. I still remember when I sold a Japanese reissue of a Sonny Clark/Buddy Defranco lp that went for $100. Crazy......
  6. Stereo made headway in the mid 50's with recordings from RCA and Mercury, though they were initially sold well on reel to reel tape, then vinyl. 1958 is the key year for many initial stereo releases on vinyl.
  7. How can someone with 500+ negative comments even SELL on ebay????
  8. Put down a big preorder on these suckers. I haven't heard good things about the Alan Shorter disc, but I still got to hear for myself.......
  9. Oh come on........... he's gone lower!
  10. Hmmm, these will be remastered from the original tapes, then processed as surround sound to be played on dvd???? Check out the "About ESP" link on their home page.
  11. I think Fania absorbed the Tico label, as they did many others -- Alegre, etc. I don't know who owns Fania now, but they have been reissuing their catalog for many years now -- check out Descarga
  12. Enoch Light - Provacative Percussion (Command) stereo
  13. I just saw this on Jazzmatazz. Is there a new company doing the ESP reissues, because aside from vol 3,vols 1 & 2 are combined as one set, and there is an Albert Ayler legit release of Foundation live 1970, and Pharoah Sanders' 1st session.
  14. CPO just reissued their cycle of Attenberg symphonies (1 through 9) at a greatly reduced price. Cduniverse sells it for around $35. Highly recommended! Very vivacious and unique music, which deserves to be better known.
  15. I was there with bertrand -- FANTASTIC SHOW!!!!!! Oh man, is this an event to see! Guys in the Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia and New York areas should definitely scramble to see these guys perform. I have a new found appreciation for Marshall Allen -- I think of him so much as "Sun Ra's band leader" that I never heard his own skills as leader, composer, player. Amazing. And to think that he and Grimes had never performed together before! We were hearing them practicing an hour before the show, but even during the concert, Allen would change sheets, point out instructions, and the two would fire away. And having a second bass player was a plus, giving it a double cello classical feel at times, and free for all plating madness at other times, but Grimes is certainly back and playing powerful stuff.
  16. Boniwell Music Machine. Buy both cds. NOW!!!!! You won't regret it. A great garage punk band with some whacked out lyrics but awesome riffs! Top notch musicians, and Sean Boniwell was da man!!! Also really like the United States of America cd.
  17. Just got the cd. Can't post a review yet, but on initial listening a big thumbs up!!!!!!
  18. Columbia Swing Sessions. The Ruby Braff discs were suprisingly good, though not my favorite. The centerpiece for me are the Buck Clayton sessions, with organ, and that one album with vocals -- Ada Moore and Jimmy Rushing? MAN, those are fantastic! And I always liked the Webster/Edison date.
  19. What about Joe Cain's Latin Explosion? I thought that was on Time as well.
  20. Water reissued the Baby Huey?? Damn............ His version of Hard Times is stone cold FUNKY!!!
  21. I can't wait to get this from cduniverse. I last saw him play at the Library of Congress last year, and his group was on fire that night!
  22. I'm going over to the Smithsonian at lunch and buy a copy....... at a discount!
  23. If anything, this will make for a good focus set, as this material is different than his released work. I like the two fer, and this should make for a good Select. Man, is Mosaic on a roll!
