  1. I have no beef with anyone on the board -- the point that I have been trying to make, though not successfully, is that I have heard the music in question -- no, not the cd, but the music. And believe it or not, yes, every concert that he has been doing in the past five - six years has been documented! I wanted to call stereojack on the term noodling, which is a negative connotation -- what made the cd less interesting and why. I realize now that this conversation would have made better sense if we were talking face to face, cause the bboard is open to too many interpretations, in how one comes across. So I've deleted my posts. Better to talk about the cd in question.
  2. Yeah, I ordered 12 of the Jazz in Paris series as well.
  3. Happy birthday chum!
  4. No, I think this is legit. Someone bought the Everest rights -- a previous reissue was the Tito Puente/Woody Herman, with a ton of bonus cuts.
  5. I don't have any problems with Mosaic holding off multiple orders. Damn, people, this set has been available for several years -- if you wanted to get multiple copies, there was plenty of time to do so.
  6. Jim, I sent my payment in. I don't know why I missed this topic, maybe because I automatically scroll down the list of topics and bypass this one all the time! Anyways, I'm supporting you and maybe you guys can make it to the East Coast!
  7. Probably because the price has been established from the beginning -- they have raised the costs per cd over the years. But making these box sets available at a higher price has not been their function -- they aren't gougers. It's about making rare music available to the public.
  8. Pre-ordered both. I eat these damn things like popcorn!
  9. Those are definitely worth checking out!
  10. Don Ellis - At the Fillmore 2 lp Columbia There was a PARTY going on here!!!
  11. Damn, I was hoping for a Mosaic reissue. Thanks for asking Ghost!
  12. Cecil Taylor - self titled on New World Records
  13. How the heck did I miss this topic? I don't care if Keanu is in it; I will be interested in how the film is executed. I think the semi animation is a smart move; it does lend that dream like "reality" that is so uncertain in Dick's novels. I still think someone has to have the guts to do either UBIK, or my perswonal favorite Phillip Dick novel, Flow My Tears the Policeman Said.
  14. Couldn't you talk to someone at Concord/Fantasy and see what they can do for you?
  15. Sam played in Baltimore a month or so ago, in the Peabody Institute. He was a guest instructor or something for a week there, along with his longtime drummer and bass player. They held a concert with the Peabody Jazz Orchestra, playing tunes from his two big band RCA cds for the second session, and just the trio for the first. Two hours of non stop Rivers, and it was brilliant. No breathing problem here -- he was just amazing.
  16. I traded the Joe Pass and Jimmy Smith Mosaic sets for an Ellington set. I am a happy man.
  17. I had a couple of Classics, then sold them. Overall I am not happy with current vinyl production, no matter how much effort has been put into them. I look at Hoffman's forums and read them with a grain of salt. I think he's all right, but there has developed a culture of audiophiles who have become to obsessed with the "purity" of sound, rather than listening to the music. Noise factor is one. How dead quiet can one expect these to be? I can still find old records, still sealed, open them, clean them (does any one clean their records before playing? In distilled water?) and have the faintest of noise. I am not putting down anyone who is buying the stuff -- I think it is reasonable to purchase a Classics lp rather than hunting for a 1st pressing. But talking about 180 vs 200 g, where they are pressed, etc. Yikes! Plus, I fail to see how people can dismiss Chuck's insights -- who has been in the business for 30+ years.
  18. Here's an odd one, but one that I had been searching for about 10 years: Les Baxter's Moog Rock SEALED!
  19. I hit on all the 20/21 series - Boulez, Takameitsu, etc.
  20. Bob Brookmeyer - Trombone Bossa Nova on Verve A World Pacific lp with Bud Shank and a koto player - nice! George Shearing - Latin Lace on Capitol Jimmy Smith - Porteguese Soul on Verve Jimmy McGriff - Honey on Solid State
  21. My family has a viszla, which is a cousin to the weimeraner -- almost the same, except they have brown red coats instead of grey, and are a little smaller. Great dogs, but damn, they need attention! And lots of play time as well.
  22. Got mine yesterday. Thanks Rooster & Jim!
  23. Man it has been insane here in DC. Yeah, they'll probably get swept by the Heat, but we're talking about an organization that has defined futility for 20+ years, and to not only be in the playoffs, but to win a series, is awesome. I'll even go out on a limb and say that they'll even win one game against the Heat!
