  1. I'll have to relisten to the post Tin Machine stuff. The albums from the 90s I found more searching for ideas than realizing a concept. But then the 90s was a strange musical period.
  2. Mantovani. 180 gram virgin vinyl 45 rpm pressings. Make it so!!!!
  3. Peter Brotzmann machine gunning the hell out of Winter Wonderland.
  4. Let's not forget at one time the jewel cases had thicker and more durable plastic. Then they cheapened it by making them thinner.
  5. Not aware of any live recording of him from that period until Mwandishi related stuff circa 1972.
  6. Larry, that's really interesting re: Webern. I prefer many of his takes over Boulez.
  7. RIP. He also conducted some excellent performances of Webern and Berg for Columbia in the 50's as well.
  8. Just go bonker overkill and get the box sets. Live set heaven.
  9. I'm confused.

The set is still in print, much cheaper than what  you ask for, plus: the label just issued a note that they are in  bad need of money...

I have not seen this set for less than 120 dollars.  Where do you see this?

I see on their website.  45 euros.  Fine I will withdraw my listing.  BTW, I dont see anywhere that they are hurting for money.

  10. Sorry, I disagree with this whole heartedly. Irabagon still has more to learn, but he is heads and shoulders over many of his contemporaries.
  11. I highly recommend this disc. Someone should nab it.
  12. OK, this just blew my mind. From da bastids: https://www.dustygroove.com/item/770204
  13. "Tales of the Unforseen" is a much better album than the previous release. More variety, better playing.
  14. Agreed. I've been listening to Barry Altschul's "Tales of the Unforseen," and to my tiny little brain it is one of the best releases of the year, in no small part because of Ibragon's playing. Moreso than his peers, he seems to have made his own connection to the music of the past and added his voice to it. The combination of Ibragon, Altschul and Joe Fonda recalls Jimmy Giuffre's 1961 trio in execution and creativity.
  15. Perhaps it has to do with their listening to other forms of music, in particular indie rock, punk or the like.
  16. 62 pounds is about $94. Buy through the resellers. Anything different than on the older set?
  17. I think the Academy group sticks to the written music too faithfully. Ruffled shirts need to be unbuttoned, sleeve rolled up; time to get funky! An example that comes to mind are the naive Vivaldi series. Man, those musicians are playing nasty! They make the Brits look very stale.
  18. I have been happy with this speaker, from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Portable-Bluetooth-Speaker-Black/dp/B00EHZYWGM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1442928431&sr=8-3&keywords=amazon+bluetooth
  19. This works just fine for me: Zerodust Onzow Stylus Tip Cleaner
