  1. BFT 249 is up and ready for your comments! As always, impressions and opinions are even better than ID's! 11 cuts, 9 from my mid 1960's to mid-1970's sweet spot. #1 and #10 are the "message" cuts. I had two minutes left on the 80 minute disc, so I added #8, as a self-indulgence. It is an obscure cover version of an old British Invasion beat group B-side. But I find it utterly moving. You will find some spectacular bass playing throughout much of this BFT. @Dan Gould will not be amused by the BFT, but he'll let you know that himself in his own inimitable way, which I anxiously await! Looking forward to your participation! Big thanks as always to Thom for loading and hosting it! https://thomkeith.net/blindfold-tests/current-tests/
  2. Agree on kickoffs, and Chiefs continue to defy logic pulling out ugly wins.
  3. Great album. Effi is a desert island track for me.
  4. Having a Terumasa Hino Thanksgiving:
  5. I was able to come across an extra Max Roach - Members, Don't Git Weary CD (Koch HDCD, 1999). This is my favorite Roach ever, the 1968 Atlantic gem with Charles Tolliver, Gary Bartz, Stanley Cowell, and Jymie Merritt. Great fidelity on this reissue from the master tapes. Excellent condition, though the tray card has a hole punch through the UPC code. $24 shipped in USA or best reasonable offer or mutually beneficial trade. PM if interested.
  6. Agreed. To me, McCoy never went overtly "out", even when Trane was pushing him in that direction., but was as intense as anyone. I saw him live in the 70's, and he would blow away guys as heavy as George Adams on the bandstand. He plays really well here, Henderson is good, Grimes does what is needed, and DeJohnette's playing is a revelation in this context. For those who think they won't listen to this more than once, be sure to listen at least the once. The 28 minutes of "Taking Off" is the money cut for me.
  7. The sound quality does detract from the overall experience, but not in a major way. Think in terms of equivalency to some of those Left Banke recordings released on 32Jazz. The bass being so boomy is the main drawback. The other three instruments are basically clear enough, though not optimal. But the musical and historical significance of this recording eclipses any of the minor to moderate sound quaility concerns and the relatively elevated price tag. If you're one of the faithful, you gotta have it, and we are the faithful.
  8. I highly recommend that Basie set.
  9. Because it's Concord. Me too.
  10. Deepdiscount.com, ordered mine with their 15% off coupon (shown on their home page), came to about $28.
  11. Looks really good, thanks!
  12. Post-stroke, so the left hand is bascially gone. But no doubt still worth a listen.
  13. Different albums, "Meet You At The Jazz Corner of the World", recorded 1960, as opposed to "Jazz Corner of the World", recorded 1959, correct? I agree that the sound on "Meet You...." is much better.

    RIP Shel Talmy

RIP to the producer of the earliest hits by the Who and the Kinks, the awesome "Friday on My Mind" by the Easybeats, and more.
  15. Amen. 9 million views on youtube, wonder if half of them are from the last 10 days. For the uninitiated:
  16. +1, and I hope we still get to decide in four years.
  17. I've always considered the sound quality of those two albums to be somewhat substandard. They may not do well in the semi-audiophile series.
  18. I did a photo collage project on the lyrics to "Epitaph" in high school (and got an A on it!). RIP. He did interesting work with King Crimson in that magical era.
  19. Which will take me a week (27 discs):
