  1. I buy almost entirely online also. Why would I pay $18.98 + tax at a Borders brick & mortar store when I can buy the same CD online for much less???
  2. I highly suggest a new novel about Bix titled 1929: A Novel Of The Jazz Age. Author is Frederick Turner. Very well written (fictionalized) account of the era.
  3. I like most of what Frisell does. Blues Dream is what I've been listening to recently. I saw him live recently. Excellent show. The encores were I Heard It Through The Grapevine & a Dylan song.
  4. Jarrett: Up For It Coltrane: Ole Woody Shaw: Bemsha Swing Teddy Edwards: Smooth Sailing Zoot Sims: Zoot (Japanese reissue) Nick Drake: 5 Leaves Left Gil Melle: Complete 50's Sessions
  5. Saw them in Albuquerque. Excellent show. Von Schlippenbach did indeed perform a Monk medley.
  6. I don't work for Cadence - but, I'm a subscriber, I don't live in New York state, I wouldn't make a long distance call to order, & I'd probably order some other items. You could order 6 more CDs for $1 more in shipping. Actually I've ordered from Jazz Loft & Cadence in the past. Never had any problems with either. Oh well - if you like the music buy it from wherever.
  7. Lon (jazzbo) is, as usual, absolutely correct. This will be a well spent $39.
  8. Eddie Higgins' CDs on Venus Archie Shepp's CDs on Venus
  9. Lovano / Osby Quintet: Friendly Fire (Jason Moran on piano). To be totally accurate Lovano & Osby also play other horns on the CD.
  10. Still playing great. I've got a couple of recent Japanese issued CDs & a live CD done in Canada.
  11. I have Cleveland Style on CD. Issued in Japan in mini-LP format. UCCM-9117 Excellent music.
  12. Marzette Watts Sonny Simmons
  13. I agree with JAW. What Deep (whatever that means) said was despicable. His Peruvian Marching Powder ( his terminology, not mine ) use obviously renders him senseless. Aric Effron was "funnier" at the old BNBB.
  14. Ouch!!! Fake - like in charlatan?? Tell us more. I'm no critic - but I've liked some of his octet & quartet recordings. Has the wool been pulled over my eyes or in this case ears??

    Eddie Higgins

The Venus CDs are indeed all worth getting - even if you have to pay "full" price.
  16. As Long As There's Music had a US issue on 32 Jazz. Don't know if it's still easily found or not.
  17. I'm getting the Weston. I haven't seen that Jubilee trio set in a million years. The other stuff is also long missing from my liquidated vinyl collection. Fortunately I have everything in the Green.
  18. IMHO, they should just release That Certain Feeling as a Rare Groove. I have all of the others in one form or another. I won't buy the Select just to get that one. I suppose I could sell the others I have in order to justify the purchase. Also I believe Got A Good Thing Going On is coming out as a Rare Groove. All in all a strange plan for Patton.

    Hank Jones

Just received today the Great Jazz Trio CD on Eighty Eights. Hank, Elvin, Richard Davis - talk about a summit meeting!! Recorded 2002. Pricey, but masterful.
  20. Definitely get this. The music triumphs over the sound - which isn't bad to begin with.
