Assuming you mean the mailing list sign up at the bottom of the homepage, I just did!!! (edit to add more exclamation points!)

OK, so what's the deal with this photo? Sonny's got a lyre attached to his horn, like he's getting ready for marching band practice. And who's that with him? Looks like he's holding a mouthpiece, and others are on the table. Trying out some new pieces? And where did you find this? I did a "view image" and it comes up as being from sonnyrollins.com. But I couldn't find this image when I went to his website.
  3. Also a belated one! Hope the Tubby Hayes records are treating you well!
  4. Yeah. I wasn't around as early as 1960, either!
  5. Glen Campbell spent time as a "session" guitar player in L.A., didn't he?
  6. Since it's US Open time, AND Quentin Tarantino has his new movie out, I guess it's time for the annual "Hey-Federer-And-Tarantino-Look-Like-Twins!" post. And as a bonus, I stumbled on this comparison: And now, back to tennis...
  7. The "Possum" is releasing a new Greatest Hits compilation, but it's only going to be available at Cracker Barrel restaurants. I can't decide if it's the dumbest or smartest marketing idea I've ever heard of. Either way, I now have a hankerin' for biscuits and gravy! Story
  8. Just found a verse to Polka Dots and Moonbeams. It's apparently in a fake book called "The Real Jazz Standards Fake Book" published by Hal Leonard. Doesn't look like the most interesting verse. Lyrics are: Would you care to hear the strangest story? At least it may be strange to you. If you saw it in a moving picture, You would say it couldn't be true... A country dance was being held in a garden...
  9. You mean besides the part where Dexter Gordon recites the lyrics before playing the tune?
  10. Pearl S. Buck Ruby Dee Lou Diamond Phillips
  11. As TTK just mentioned, a ton of the shows got either destroyed or taped over, so lots of that stuff is just gone. I've also heard that the folks in charge of the remaining tapes have no interest is paying the band any royalties. On those "Best of Carson" DVD sets you see being offered on the infomercials, they don't use the band and original theme song, and they edit out anything that includes the band (bits. guest musicians, feature numbers).
  12. If that, then this.... You'd think, but for me...no. The earlier album bogs down under it's own weight as it goes along, whereas the later one is to the point and floats confidently all the way. If the Here's To Life is a storm that eventually causes flooding, You're My Thrill is a steady shower that just saturates the ground and then stops to let the sun come out. Mind you, I'm not getting rid of my copy of Here's To Life... I have Here's To Life (and like it a lot), but not You're My Thrill. IIRC, on Here's To Life, Johnny Mandel was orchestrating the arrangements that Shirley had done; her reharmonizations, etc. Is it the same deal on You're My Thrill, or was there a different collaborative thing that maybe accounts for the different assessment?
  13. I wanna live in a world where this tune could be "pop"ular!!!!
  14. RIP, LP. I remember as a kid, I saw Les on the old Mike Douglas Show. He had a unit on his guitar that controlled a rack of multitrack recording gear behind him. He called the black box on his guitar the "Les Paul-veriser". He did a live demo of stacking up some parts, and I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen!
  15. Fresh corn on the cob and a Sirloin steak of grass-fed beef that we picked up at the local farmers market. Hoo-Weee!!!!
  16. I've seen the show several times, and it's pretty entertaining. I like the "RED LIGHT CHALLEEENNGGEE!!!!!"
  17. You got it: "My baby's not much for sports; Like walkin' 'round without shorts." Uhhh.....OK.
  18. Which tune and which album, please. "I've Got A Crush On You" from "Live At the Sands" with Count Basie
  19. Hiney, Hiney, Hiney, OOHHHHH!!!
  20. "...probably the most difficult belt change in the industry."
