  1. I know, I was joking
  2. I want the complete Blackhawk in mono. Oh wait, I'll just hit the MONO button on my amp!
  3. Pat Metheny has one of his guitars
  4. I don't think he did sgcim, but Eddie is one of my fav Jimmy Smith guitarists. He was a much better fit than Thornel Schwartz and more inventive than Quentin Warren as far as "regular" JOS guitarists.
  5. My 3LP box set 70s French reissue on RCA, bought as an import, has that cover design too. A great session!
  6. Indeed it is, JOS, Burrell and Jimmie Smith on drums. I think this is one of JOS' best from later in his career too. For some reason, they aren't reissuing the second album, just the first. It'd be nice to have a complete sessions set from this gig.
  7. Listening now to the original US CD, if you don't have it since it is being reissued in Japan, highly recommended. I don't plan on upgrading but hope they don't make the reissue too loud.
  8. I have the Jazz in Paris digipack version.
  9. Something a bit more positive. A Smith/Blakey reunion. http://youtu.be/bI3tONq9_J8
  10. Shin Soo Ji's pitch was incredible.
  11. Were there pre OJC CD issues of some of the Montreux '77 titles, such as here? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Live-Montreux-77-Count-Basie-Big-Band-Pablo-/130972559558?pt=Music_CDs&hash=item1e7e92a8c6 I thought the OJC's were the first issued on CD.

I have "Common Ground", it's very good.
  13. RIP
  14. Yeah, those min-LP things. Do the B+W LP covers and make them glossy and shit. Do that. and yeah, charge extra for it. Hell yeah. Only so many people gonna buy anyways, so charge the money. For real - this: not this: One looks real, the other looks like repackaged product. Yeah, those min-LP things. Do the B+W LP covers and make them glossy and shit. I agree there, Jim. Pablo covers were glossy so yes, do that!
  15. Why not do a Montreux '75 box and a Montreux '77 box? Each could probably be housed in maybe five or six CD's, from what I remember. And there was a lot of cross-pollination which would make a box flow well. And the quaility was consistent from what I remember, wouldn't be the yo-yo effect of. say, Blue Note Montreux '73 or Flying Dutchman '71 being gathered in a box. Well, there are 15 albums in the Montreux '77 series, I have 9. Each set runs about 45 minutes with the exception of the Basie Septet, Brown/Jackson, and Peterson jams which lasted a bit longer. All those extra tracks were collected on the "Jam Sessions: Montreux '77" double album which is one CD on the OJC reissue.
  16. Couldn't they have selected a few of the "Montreux '77" titles and put the complete sessions (where applicable) on one disc? Those masterings are still ok, but a few of them I would want to hear upgrades of.
  17. The unusual Duke on B-3 clip, posted again here. http://youtu.be/kKTfha5CU6Y
  18. IDK, every video I've pulled up of him he plays pretty inside within the mainstream tradition. If you can suggest something more outside, that'd be wonderful. He's a strong player from the vids I watched. Check out Corey with Roscoe Mitchell. He's also played with the Art Ensemble of Chicago. Thanks.

  20. NPR reported it An album I really like is "Muir Woods Suite".
  21. What?! His new album was just released and actually it's pretty decent.
  22. Happy birthday Lon! Stay strong through this difficult time.
  23. Good or bad?
  24. Yes, they are wonderful, though I give the slight edge to the second one, "Trio '81". I got the last copy of that from Dusty Groove, years ago. The two of them, plus Ron Carter's "Third Plane" is the complete output of that group as a trio, correct? Not aware of any others (trio-dates only) under Herbie's or Ron's name, nor any under Tony's (correct?) Right, just those three. The "Herbie Hancock Trio" (SRCS 7051-had to look on the shelf) is the second half of the "Third Plane" session, I believe licensed to Sony for release under Herbie's name. Ethan Iverson did a write up on these and I don't agree with him, he finds that and the '81 trio session, aren't that great. They are important just to have Herbie in a trio.
