Where to next? so far I have the following with Gene:
Trio+ One
25th Fujitsu Concord Jazz Festival (GREAT set on disc 1 with his quartet then with Scott Hamilton on disc 2)
26th Fujitsu Concord Jazz Festival (nice big band set on disc 2)
Ray Brown Trio: Live from New York to Tokyo (twofer with "Red Hot Ray Brown Trio" and "Bam Bam Bam" really great records)
I know "Live at Otter Crest" is highly recommended
Another vote for "Extensions", add "Asante" to the list, in addition to Grant Green "Live at the Lighthouse", Elvin, ditto, and Bobby Hutcherson "Live at Montreux" which is a must.
Word is the Wounded Bird transfers for the trio titles are the same as Herbie's Columbia box. The dynamic range rating of "Flood" was identical with the HDTracks release.
I bought a lot of 21 Monk discs on ebay for $40 which will enhance and fill holes in my Monk section nicely. I already have K2's of "Monk's Music" and "Misterioso" which of course are detailed, but not everyone likes the sound of. Would it be wise to hang onto both versions?
Happy birthday RVG! Regardless of what some people think, we should be thankful for all he has done. I am grateful for the hundreds of RVG's BN put out (tho I have replaced a few) because it allowed me to get previously very hard to find music, and a lot of great music I hadn't gotten to yet, cheaply.
Damn, this is a real shame. His playing on "Enjoy the View" I thought is quite fine, and his playing since 2004 or so I think, with the SF Jazz Collective, Joey DeFrancesco and Kenny Garrett amongst some of the finest of his career.
Wow, I never knew about this either! Has nothing to do with what I feel about the music. edit: just finished reading the ebook which I spent 6 hours reading straight through. Fascinating read.
