  1. Thanks for sharing, I donated. I hope he is as comfortable as he can be, and they are giving the best care they can.
  2. I love Trane's intensity too, it's cathartic, and even at his most out, there's something there to bring you back in. It's the soul of a man laid bare almost, everything is there for the listener. He never forgot about bebop or the blues, though it shows itself in less obvious ways, "Leo" on "Live in Japan". I have to be in the mood for "Live in Japan" or "Seattle" as well, but when that mood strikes, it's right.
  3. I just got the promo the other day, looking forward to listening
  4. Ray was swinging his butt off on that blues..........
  5. Hi everyone, I am moved into my apartment in Yonkers, still very very hectic around here, there are some challenges with the bathroom that are being addressed right now that prevent me from transferring independently, so in the interim trying to round up home health aides and stuff for assistance, everything is a process. Things will work out, just the next few weeks some kinks have to be worked out. Thanks everyone for the donations, you are awesome.
  6. Sad. My mom loved "The Producers" and "Young Frankenstein" especially. The former never failed to make her laugh no matter how many times she saw it. She always used to call a quick tomato sauce she made "the "quick sauce" with a German accent, in reference to the "quick fuse" line
  7. Agreed Ken, the CD arrived a few days ago for me too and look forward to reviewing it, very nice set. Agreed Ken, the CD arrived a few days ago for me too and look forward to reviewing it, very nice set.
  8. Thanks, any little bit helps.......... this next few weeks is going to be very challenging, but it'll work out.
  9. I've felt strange about posting this here because its such a personal matter, we've known each other forever on this board, though so it's ok.. I will be moving to Yonkers next weekend, my first independent living adventure, as I have cerebral palsy and use a wheelchair. The unexpected passing of my mom has launched my expedition to living independently even quicker than anticipated, as I have been hurled into taking care of unforseen expenses for her, but also rent, security and deposit expenses, moving truck etc. My uncle started a gofundme and its up to $2,176, a lot of my aunt's church friends have mailed me sympathy cards, and some great musicians I've met along my writing path have made some amazing donations, so check it out if you are able. Thanks so much......... the money is directly going to supporting the costs outlined above. Thanks again everyone. https://www.gofundme.com/2j8zvyxv
  10. I really love the Milt Jackson/Ray Brown: "Montreux '77" disc on Pablo/OJC. There's so much good music in that post 60's area, maybe down the line you'll enjoy more of it. I used to be a hard bop snob when I was a kid into my teenage years then getting into Pat Metheny's mussic changed all that, it opened me to ECM, the avant garde, everything
  11. Damn, RIP............... Knew it was coming too, horrible month, my mom, Bobby Hutcherson and RVG. Will his studio be operated by Maureen Sickler now? since he passed on the trade of his work to her?
  12. It's the second quintet, my all time fav. Miles group. The process of creation with that band is revelatory, actually being able to hear that process, will be very very interesting. Reviewing it for sure. I'm in, I looked at it first and thought "I have the second quintet box, how much duplication will there be?" but it'll be very, very interesting to hear how it all got there. For casual Miles fans, they can skip this, but for people like us, mileages may vary but it looks great.
  13. Yes! scared me too.
  14. This month is hard for me............ I am dealing with my dear mom's unexpected passing, and now hearing about Bobby's death which SFJazz posted. https://www.sfjazz.org/onthecorner/bobby-hutcherson

  16. RIP
  17. Yes Lon, your friend is right. As I said in the review, the pieces Vitous reimagines that he did not play on originally are among the most intriguing. Thanks!
  18. Really nice album, will be in my best of 2016. http://bit.ly/29vCWGq Some of my reviews will also be featured at Jazz Views UK, very happy about that!
  19. Yeah........... I just realized that oops. Consummation is out as an SHM and I've seen the Blue Note "Live at the VV" reissue from Germany on ebay but its one of the famous copy controlled issues.
