Alon, what "pop" albums of Metheny's do you speak of? For the record the only pop album hes made in years was an album of his tunes with Polish vocalist Anna Maria Jopek.

Pat Metheny smooth? uh, The Way Up!!!!!!!!!!!! hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keiko Matsui, yes she does have songs that are smooth jazz with the hooks and all, but she does a lot of other stuff like worldbeat and technoey type things, and she'll have full blown orchestrations too so shes not entirely smooth.... Yes, I have a few of her albums, and Michael Franks too
  3. The group is Steve Smith and Vital Information which features ex Santana keyboardist Tom Coster on keyboards and they have several things out on Tone Center records. They played my neck of the woods recently but I was unable to go.
  4. wow, sad news, I was listening to "One Flight Up" the other day. Such rich basslines on that album.
  5. yeah Big Al, I thought maybe it was Wayne, and his wife at that time was named Miyako right? I think I can see an Asian face from the profile
  6. is that Lee and Ruth Lion? it looks like Lee's ears to me.

    FREDDIE IS 67!

happy B-day Freddie! I saw Carl Allen last night and talked to Carl and Vincent Herring about him. Vincent didn't know what he was up to, and Carl called him but hasn't heard back yet. The gig was great last night too.
  13. I wonder when the new trio release will hit. BTW, the black Ibanez is featured on the We Live Here and Imaginary Day DVD's.
  14. I disagree Mike. His blonde Ibanez prototype sounds more like his Gibson than the black Ibanez he was using for a little while. His blonde prototype is really an almost exact copy of his 175, which was taken to Japan, and copied. As a sidebar I'm watching a DVD I made from a bit torrent of an American Garage show in 1980, it sure is a hoot!
  15. well, Herbie's always kept his ear to the ground in terms of current styles. You gotta respect that at least.
  16. two come to my mind: Joe Henderson In Japan McCoy: Enlightenment
  17. Is that the same date as one of the Tokyo concerts from "Live Under the Sky"? the new 2 CD set is a lot better than the original release and the previously unissued second show on disc 2 is great.
  18. I wonder when Sony will bring out Herbie's "VSOP" album
  19. listening to disc 2 of "Live Under the Sky", and I think that maybe not as adventurous outright as the Miles discs, they are fine documents of 70's acoustic jazz. I think the resequencing of disc 1 is a revelation for the first night concert as you can hear the progression of playing through the rainstorm. I also like "Tempest in the Colosseum" a lot too.
  20. the first time I heard a soundclip of "You Bet Your Love" with Herbie on vocals with the vocoder I nearly peed my pants, it was hilarious. I was laughing so hard for like 5 mins straight. Herbie + vocoder= horrible, sad shit
  21. cool. may he RIP
  22. what? no love for Mark Ledford? he did great vocalese
  23. ahh, ok cool.... let us know when you get the material sorted and out for d/l
