  1. I have the Mosaic too thankfully. "The Duel" sounds to me as if it predates free jazz in a way, does this track indeed go "out", Jim, Soulstream, anybody?
  2. those are GREAT essential Jimmy Smith albums. However, those vols, do not correspond with "Jimmy Smith At the Organ, Volume 3." Volume 3 is a follow up to "A New Sound, A New Star, Jimmy Smith At the Organ" volumes 1&2 which were Blue Note 1512 and 1514
  3. shame, I love his work on "Walkin" by Miles.
  4. AT THE ORGAN are actually BLP 1551 AND 1552.
  5. SS1 you burn CD's of the stuff you d/l from emusic? I used to do that cuz its less than the cost of buying an album from Fantasy's list price.
  6. anyway, anyone receive the RVG vol. 3 yet? I don't want to replace my copy from the 2 disc set, is the sound a huge leap? I thought it was decent on the 2 disc set. I never replaced by "Home Cookin" either for the RVG. Didn't need to.
  7. I made myself burned copies of JOS at the Organ vols 1&2 from the Mosaic so I don't have to keep diggin it out just for those albums. But I goofed on Vol. 2 by putting the alternate Plum Nellie instead of the master while everything else is ok.
  8. yes, Tjazz when Jimmy's first 3 albums (including the above shown vol. 3) were reissued in a 2 CD set a few years ago.
  9. "Don't Get Too Hip" now, thats the stuff............ what a great opener
  10. oh yeah, good show, this is from the Speaking of Now tour in 2002, I have it on tape.
  11. I heard this news on the yahoo Pat Metheny list. I will call my local red cross blood center monday to inquire about getting a local blooddrive set up for Michael/getting the blood to him in NY for the transplant. I fwd the email to several musicians on the local jazz scene here.
  12. I'm up for buying it
  13. so Jim, mine will be comin next week or somethin right? yay it will be signed! And this time by people I sorta know personally!
  14. yeah Joe, me too.......... sometimes the humor makes me go lol
  15. Raul Midon is incredibly talented, but that song And I thought "Rockit" for worst Herbie song couldn't be topped (tho the recent live versions are a lot better)
  16. I notice quite a bit of Harold Vick in Grover Washington's tone on tenor, anybody else catch this?
  17. his colorations on WR "Live in Tokyo" are amazing, inventive. I certainly hear the major influence he had on Airto.
  18. yes, they are VERY reliable. If you live in a place like NY state your order arrives in a day in half almost. As for Europe, dunno.
  19. Soulstream, I hear you on the JOS. I have the 2 CD reissue from a few years ago myself and the sound is fine. Now if the RVG had the two bonu tracks with Babs Gonzales I'd consider it.
  20. I've bought KoB just once. the '97 reissue. hey, I'm young
  21. this piece was a load of crap. The only overdubbing early on in Miles' career I am aware of is on "Miles Ahead".
  22. I'm gonna check it out cuz its Herbie. I mean, anything is better than Feets Don't Fail Me Now, Sound System, Future Shock and Perfect Machine. Gotta give props to Herbie staying current.
  23. youmustbe, that statement about Jack seems a little off to me, it seems he clearly enjoys himself in the trio. Where did such info come up that "he only does the gig for the money"?
  24. well, you know everyone, you can go to that wonderful Japanese site if you don't like the cover you can just print it out and put it in front of the cover insert. They do print out nice.
