  1. crazy, if the music is the thing that ultimately matters in the end, what's the urge to spend that kind of $? If vinyl collecting is your thing, thats great, if not, well... I concur with Soulstream. Only original vinyl I'd want is of "The Sermon" just because thats my favorite album. But if I have the CD of something, I'm set. I personally can't see collecting for anything but the music, not for mystique value. I get use out of what I have.
  2. love those pics
  3. I would be VERY interested in this should a copy turn up.
  4. former Pat Metheny Group percussionist from 1987-95 and very active session man in Brazil. Anyone know what he's up to these days? I always enjoyed his work in Pat's band which was more felt than heard. Jim R or anyone up on the Brazillian scene know what Armando has done recently?
  5. uh, Wynton, and the like maybe are you inquiring about?
  6. yes, it is.
  7. yeah, I have a burn of that quintet set. Only 3 tunes.
  8. cool, thanks for the tip Alec.
  9. thats what I did in highschool choir too Jim!
  10. Tenderly over here as well.
  11. oh Jim, you suck, you can't read! just kidding I'm not even a musician at all, but I have big ears, I faked thru two years of chorus in highschool by using my ear.
  12. that's very interesting. Wes Montgomery couldn't read music either, right? Perhaps it could be that back then, such great musicians didn't have access to get help learning such skills?
  13. cool to know the Garland/Trane will be packaged like that, and ditto for the Evans b/c I don't have any of that material.
  14. I am glad that Fantasy offers a huge chunk of their catalog on emusic. When I had an emusic subscription it allowed me to d/l legally and burn(in good quality) many titles I've wanted for years such as many McCoy Tyner's, the Keystone Korner Freddie Hubbard sides (which are rather pricy at other stores) Arnett Cobb, Jack McDuff, etc. for much less then the cost of a single album. But I will continue to buy their product, especially more K2 releases when something strikes me.
  15. Soul Stream, I meant polished musically in relation to the Verve recordings by way of more pop/soul/R&B tunes of the era like "1-2-3" or "Let's Stay Together" I like many of the Verve recordings too, so I thought I might clarify my "crazy talk" hehe.
  16. I believe they did. Donald Bailey, in an audio interview I heard on a site some years ago said he caught them at a club in Philly. Just caught this thread..... when I hear a Jimmy Smith BN, I don't focus on the sound quality, but the music. For "polished" recordings, musically and sonically, its got to be the Verve recordings.
  17. well, I'm sticking to the K2's I have.
  18. cool, I'd just wanna get this one for the fun factor too. I would like to d/l "Respect" from Verve's OOP site, but my uncle told me unless you burn tunes onto Apple hardware, they aren't compatible with other stuff, even burning onto CDR
  19. place I wouldn't expect to hear Organissimo? my house
  20. wow, great read.
  21. anybody know where to find the UK edition that includes the "Keep on Comin'" album with Johnny Griffin?
  22. I'm not sure if I will buy these either...............
  23. aww, Zora likes you Joe!!
  24. wow this sucks. I hope when I purchase some of these they play in my DVD player which doubles as my main CD player
  25. I remember Thomas Sowell's writing from college, I think he talked about if the black community got together they could drive out the deviant forces. I think thats what his point was. As for rap and hip hop, I'm not a huge fan but there is decent stuff out there like A Tribe Called Quest, and Q-Tip but there are parallels between rappers and jazzers, the MC Battles are like cutting contests, some of the same vocabulary is used, like "cat", "hip", "motherfucker", etc... and they live a fast life, think of Lee Morgan and Freddie Hubbard how they'd get similar sports cars, chase after the same women, and try to outblow themselves. It was a friendly rivalry there, but a similar machismo aspect to it.
