  1. does anyone notice on "Stepping Stones" how they seem to use the same applause segment in between each tune? not that it matters much, the music is so great.
  2. thanks for the info on the copy protection, that is one ugly set of logos.
  3. I haven't gotten the Dex, Blakey and Silver titles in this batch with the copy protection, so in the future when I buy them, how will I know they are not CP vs. the XCP thing?
  4. thanks Felser. The Muse sides originally issued on 32 Jazz, are OOP, so I use Amazon Marketplace sometimes to get harder to find items used, would I kill myself pricewise trying to find them? I am interested in finding a reasonable copy of The Freddie Hubbard/Woody Shaw Sessions but some yahoo has it on sale for $149.99! sorry, at that price I can do more important things in life :-p
  5. wow, that is saying a lot. And the band well, is great....... as great as the bands with Larry Willis, Steve Turre, Mulgrew Miller and Stafford James are, the Quintet on Stepping Stones just flat out grooves. I don't feel so bad about "It All Comes Back To You" being omitted from the playlist, because the liners say, it was chosen for more radio friendly reasons.
  6. got it as a freebie (well, for $3 b/c of shipping) from BMG, and man...... this may be the best Woody Shaw I've yet heard. Mind you I have the One Night With Blue Note DVD, the four Highnote discs, Unity and a few boots as far as Woody goes but wow. I thought maybe with the hype surrounding this reissue that I'd be underwhelmed but no. Gotta give it a close listen, but even the landlord who is a jazz fan, who was doing some work in the house, stopped what he was doing and called it "magnificent" now hes been around the block, but hes never heard Woody Shaw, so maybe I made a new convert.
  7. wow I remember some of those too!
  8. I'm holding out for PS3, because Sony usually has the games I want to play plus I have stuff from PS1/PS 2 so the backwards compatibility makes sense.
  9. any other fav. reviews? I was looking at Grado SR-60's and I have no doubt they sound incredible but the fact I read they don't travel that well for portability, and that they don't seal out much ambient noise is a concern to me. Plus they aren't in my budget, so I hope I will make the right choice going for the Sennheiser's with the amount of money I want to spend.
  10. thanks.
  11. I think I may need to change my headphones especially since my music w/o headphones has disturbed the neighbors recently. I have $40 noise cancelling Maxell headphones that have fell apart in less then a year, so I only really want to spend $20-30 on a new pair, and I've heard the Sennheiser HD 202 are pretty decent for the price. read a couple reviews o/l but what do everyone here think? thanks
  12. what? no more K2's?
  13. sure, I'll bring this back up for discussion. Really? "In N Out" as a progressive album with a trumpeter doesn't sound all that out to me. "Our Thing" the title track, yeah with that modal stretch, but as far as Joe Henderson goes on classic Blue Note goes "Inner Urge"(especially) and "Mode for Joe" sound way more "out" to me. And Freddie on Herbie's "The Egg" is pretty out there too. That tune for me is just kinda, LOL!
  14. I like the cardboard slipcases. do you mean the plastic see thru ones like Miles "Round About Midnight" Legacy edition, and Trane's ALS deluxe?
  15. $7.99 here. Altho at my Coconuts I saw a used TOCJ of Herbie's "Inventions and Dimensions" for $6.99! I have the RVG so I didn't go for it, but I told my friend about it and to go snap it up, as he has a collection growing. I never see Japanese imports of anything round here where I live. Now, if that was JOS "At the Club Baby Grand" vol. 1 or 2, I woulda been all over that
  16. sounds like something to check out when I'm able.
  17. thank you, JazzShrink. True Marcello, I guess it could be considered a tribute band all things considered.
  18. that humor is lost on me. sorry ^.^;;
  19. http://dizzygillespie.org/ well, could it be that even if some of the players were not directly involved with Diz, they could just be great musicians, thus they got call? I mean Randy Brecker, Claudio Roditi, Renee Rosnes, et al. are great players.
  20. last night at Binghamton University: Slide Hampton, Cyrus Chestnut, Jim Rotondi a sax player I can't remember the name of (Labelle was the last name I think) John Lee and Dennis Mackrel. Damn did these guys smoke, Cyrus had a beautiful "My Funny Valentine" feature, and there was a funky burning "Manteca" as well, at the end of "Night in Tunisia" Rotondi did his best Mogie imitation, I actually shouted out "get mad!" Met Cyrus and Rotondi after the gig, Cyrus signed my Roy Hargrove CD, sweet cat, and Jim and I were talking about Freddie and Woody Shaw, the sax player said he had really wanted to work with Woody because "he was really the only one doing anything new" and he was tight with Carter Jefferson, but as we all know what happened to Wood, the sax player never got the chance. Also Rotondi and I were briefly discussing "Alexander the Great" from Eric Alexander, and he told me as a horn player, that RVG's is the best sounding room he ever played in.
  21. outside of "Legacy" yes, it was his last album where he was billed as the leader. Right before JOS had passed Joey got him signed to Concord and was going to produce a new CD for Jimmy but unfortunately it was too late
  22. wow no other guilty pleasure confessions for Enigma? guess cuz I'm one of the younger ones LOL
  23. Enigma the j-pop/r&b of Hikaru Utada and Namie Amuro remixes of video game music
  24. I have "Cherokee" but would love Jimmy Smith Trio+LD and Lonesome Road.
