  1. still nothing yet! (as of Friday afternoon) I just hope this is a case of the holidays/President Ford death, delaying the time it takes the package in getting to me.
  2. a "jazz fill" inspired by Neil Peart. http://learnlicks.com/watchVideo.cfm?lickID=195 uh, Neil Peart and jazz? the guy can't swing in the traditional way to save his life! great rock drummer and technician, yes, great jazz drummer? no.
  3. ok, thats great! I will be waiting. Thanks everyone
  4. the sound on the 1988 Sky Dive CD is garbage, the horns sound like their MIDI horns, terrible remastering job. I sold it a long time ago. Fortunately, the UK edition of "First Light" is quite good, it contains a nearly 17 minute long unreleased "First Light" from the concerts that produced the Freddie Hubbard/Stanley Turrentine "In Concert" albums. Stan sits out on that track though.
  5. JOS at Smalls Paradise had several tracks that were never issued on CD at all, only LP in Japan.
  6. I ordered Freddie Hubbard and Stanley Turrentine in Concert vol. 1 from the bastards, and well it shipped December 26th and according to the shipping confirmation it said my order would be in my hands by January 3rd. That was yesterday, I called them and they said if nothing comes by monday or tuesday of next week, to call them so they can issue credit. Nothing came today, and I have received all my other post x-mas packages from CDUniverse and the like, the tracking number online gets me no new info. What should I do? I've had nothing but great service from DG in the past, should I report the item as lost yet? They shipped me the last copy of that CD.
  7. news: Metheny/Mehldau vol. 2 in March, new trio record in Fall, a Question& Answer remaster in fall too, and a Secret Story remaster with 5 unreleased tracks!
  8. amen Frankie!
  9. I agree.
  10. yes Chewy, I know bop came before, but this tune man, has the essence of hard bop, original funk if you will, all over it IMO.
  11. ok, so I dumped this topic here. But I guess as a jaded hard bop listener, this tune really perked me up and along with "Cool Struttin" and "Walkin" (Miles' original '54 version) to me typifies what hard bop is about. I love how Hank found a hip way of putting his own spin on "It Ain't Necessarily So". While I'm at it, is "Out of Joe's Bag" also on "Another Workout" based on "Freedom Jazz Dance"?
  12. Sansa MP3 player Hank: Another Workout, Booby: Dialogue, Happenings, Oblique (thanks mom!) coming soon far more post x-mas CD's in the mail
  13. I was shocked when I heard the news x-mas morning. JB put such a distinctive and lasting stamp on popular music, it's a shame most ppl my age don't know him outside the "Funky Drummer" sample, "Living in Americs" or "I Got You" (I Feel Good) and man, the JBs were such a hip horn section.
  14. thanks. ordered them both and they will arrive after x-mas.
  15. I am thinking about buying these after x-mas, what do y'all think of these? I heard "French Spice" from "Smoking out Loud" on an WBGO webcast and it was pretty cookin I thought.
  16. happy the surgery went well Jim. As long as you don't pull Keith Jarrett histrionics at the organ your back should be ok!
  17. oh man, that's harsh. I dig Ron's playing too but the intonation stuff really tends to come out on like "Beyond the Blue Horizon" or Tony Williams "Foreign Intrigue" or those Japan only Herbie trio recordings
  18. wow that guy has amazing chops and taste in the groove too!
  19. yes, they are some very odd noises there. I had to get the remastered UK version because the US one just went OOP for some weird reason.
  20. I love this album, but what is up with Carter's wack cello on this? its obviously badly intonated and does not seem to fit always, anyone know whose suggestion it was he play cello on this session?
  21. not sure I have heard 10 but for me: Trio Beyond: Saudades Christian McBride: Live at Tonic--despite mixed reviews, especially because of disc 1 I feel it's his strongest leader date Metheny/Mehldau Kenny Garrett Beyond the Wall reissue of the year: Tony Williams: Mosaic Select
  22. no Trio Beyond, Saudades?
