  1. This take on the tune has gotta be another example into the man's genius. What the hell is going on in the way he plays the head?! That and Donald Bailey's horsehoofs galloping stuff on the rim and tom, gives the whole thing an odd time feel makes it sound like he's in half time even tho it's a medium-up swing in the solos.
  2. like Soulstream, mark me down in the "gotta have it all" JOS category.
  3. JOS playing synthesizers on some of his mid 70's stuff. Some ppl may find Pat Metheny's contributions to Kenny Garrett's "Simply Said" surprisingly too close to anonymous smooth jazz guitar players, Freddie Hubbard doing "Midnight at the Oasis" Donald Byrd's Mizell produced stuff, Chick Corea with the Foo Fighters at the Grammies, Dizzy's Party.
  4. another vote for Wayne on Free For All!
  5. oh man, sorry to hear you are underwhelmed. Still getting a copy for my birthday though in a few weeks. Like I asked you in the soundclip thread, what drawbar setting was that on "Minor Fare"? I agree that the sound and everything sounds more like JOS in the late 50's, but I will be looking forward to hearing the session. Nevermind, just listened to the clips again, Jimmy's just using octaves.
  6. Jimmy really burns on "Autumn Leaves" with some killer basslines too.
  7. this is not good at all. I just hope theres still time to grab the many BN things I haven't bought previously, when I start my new job in July I hope things are still around.
  8. Soulstream, what's that weird stop setting on "Minor Fare"? is it like the 5th or 6th drawbar pulled out some? I was messing around with a local player's XK-8 who knows I love organ on a break at their gig a few weeks, hes an organ fan as well so I figured out some classic stops (he had asked me to email him with drawbar registrations), but none of the weird ones like on "Houseparty", "Trio+LD" and so on. BTW, What's with the 85 suffix in all these catalog numbers for the new Conns? the 85 numbers were used for the post Town Hall concert albums when the label was reactivated. Yet, the new Kenny Burrell and Ron Carter albums due this June have 79 series numbers.
  9. http://music.barnesandnoble.com/search/pro...9225&itm=53 I am definitely all over this date when released. The clips sound great, and some unusual stop choices for Jimmy, wonder if thats one reason it was a rejected session?
  10. hey Joe tell Carl I said hi, I met him back here in Binghamton when he performed with his group.
  11. man that's funny.
  12. ahh yes with the radio calls being picked up by the Varitone you are right, I gotta go pull it out.
  13. I remember listening to "A Secret Place" on vinyl as a kid, the best thing about it is that version of "Dolphin Dance". I second Grover playing his ass off, I love his playing on "CTI Summer Jazz at the Hollywood Bowl", "Breakout", the appearance on the "One Night With Blue Note" DVD, and Joey D's "Live at the Five Spot". When going to CVS of all places, they play "Just the Two of Us" a lot over their music cycle and I stop to just listen to that solo.
  14. right on felser. Benson's playing is torrid on that album, despite Ron Carter's cello playing. Shame the '97 remaster is OOP, I had to get the UK import, which is jewelcased and is otherwise the same as the '97 US edition.
  15. oh yeah, Stanley goes a little out on "Povo". That's definitely surprising if you haven't heard this album before. I think he was a much more agile player than people give him credit for. Also DeJohnette pushes really hard on vol. 1.
  16. I love Brad's solo on "Tumbleweed", and how he inserts that "He's a Real Gone Guy" quote there, he's such a serious dude that I imagine him playing that in the studio totally expressionless. Herbie is just a monster on "Loose Threads" one of the best recent solos on record I've heard from him in years.
  17. I wrote a review for AAJ which has yet to be published. IMHO, its the best Brecker album ever. And Herbie on Rhodes!!!!
  18. I gotta get Caravanserai. "Lotus" is probably my favorite Santana album though, it's a great record.
  19. ooh, a Ron Carter orgy!!!!?? man, if it includes his cello playing I don't know if I can contain my well, you know.......................................
  20. yes, he did. But Joey sounds like Joey on this album.
  21. wow. I am so broke.
  22. received it today and finished my first spin. This is the best Michael Brecker album, period. Its going to really hit you hard emotionally for those of you who love Mike.
  23. A promo should be in my hands any day now.
