  1. damn, two of Ray's guys in a week. Hank had such a great tone
  2. his new trio album is quite good. Ok, I love the Standards Trio.
  3. just had a blackberry banana smoothie
  4. I saw bits of Mosley-Margarito while watching Affliction: Day of Reckoning( I love both boxing and MMA). Shane was just too experienced, too fast too skilled for Tony, who had been looking like one of the most dominating guys at 147 after beating Cotto. Shane Mosley is not Miguel Cotto, Cotto is a very 1 dimensional fighter.
  5. wow, and he plays still incredibly all these years later. I'm glad music has kept Sonny strong since the passing of his wife.
  6. I'll be picking up the Jarrett, on CD of course.
  7. Holy Ghost, I agree "Street of Dreams" is a great record, I meant to say I'd skip it cuz I already have the McMaster SBM from a few years ago. What really got me on the album tho, was the incredible 5/4 take on "Lazy Afternoon"
  8. finally "Spring" as a domestic RVG. Been waiting for that, the Willette and Moncur too. I'll (again) skip the Green.
  9. damn, totally unexpected. I like the twin tenor attack of he and Red Holloway on Jimmy McGriff's "The Dream Team"
  10. McGriff's first recording was 1962 I think, the JOS was recorded in 1958, so McGriff must have known the record and cut the tune later on. Maybe it was a forgotten tune so its credited to him?
  11. Tony must have been 11 or 12 when the session was recorded. IIRC, the hardcover book mentions they used a safety master of KoB as the original is fragile. I noticed what you are saying about this mastering too hprill0, I enjoy having the official release of all the extra stuff tho. This is my 2nd copy of KoB
  12. chewy, the tape is badly damaged for that tune. It's been well documented that on the master, that tune is damaged beyond repair.
  13. maybe they want to give people a choice of masterings?
  14. I actually really like Michael Franks: The Art of Love-The Anthology, I grew up on those early sides.
  15. hmm, a case where JOS played another organist's tune............... interesting
  16. the PMG just toured Japan in a limited engagement as a quartet playing many tunes they have not played in years. Really hope a CD or DVD is released.
  17. I may spring for the Shaw at some point because I'd really like to hear that music. I noticed they placed a caveat that the packaging may be slightly different, like the Hutcherson has a clear case insert instead of what I presume was the original white tray piece. The prices may be what they are because they duplicate all the original art+ disc label
  18. it is a little odd. but being a fan of bizarre Japanese pop culture things, it works.
  19. thats actually Cypress Hill your quoting, Cliff
  20. well, the Hutcherson Live at Montreux one I got is of pretty high quality. I haven't had a CDR go bad yet so my faith is restored in them after reading some scary stuff here.
  21. but they have "Bemsha Swing"!!! odd, but not surprising most of all the Tony Williams are now becoming available even with the Select in print. Oh well, I have the Select plus now a real copy of Tokyo Live so I'm good
  22. "Stylings of Silver" is a great session and great sounding RVG
  23. MG, I think the original "Home Cookin" LP credits it to JOS. I can check Vintage Vanguard just to be sure. Speaking of JOS goofs, I only have the '98 Conn of "Softly as a Summer Breeze", but why is Horace Silver's "Home Cookin" listed as such on that LP but "One For Philly Joe" on the CD reissues? (at least domestically)
  24. Jack DeJohnette: Special Edition with both Murray and Blythe. I'd classify the music as inside/outside, but a fair portion of it is pretty out, such as "One For Eric" and "Journey to the Twin Planet. Most of the acoustic things Herbie and Wayne have done in the past decade, Kurt Rosenwinkel's latest too. Kenny Garrett, "Beyond the Wall", Brad Mehldau "Live in Tokyo", "Trio Live", I forgot as far as ECM goes, Pat Metheny: "80/81", which is a brilliant date in his catalog, great playing and tunes from everybody.
  25. I emailed a question about the future of the catalog, not sure if they answered that one, but I caught the last hour and MC said "these records are not really going away" so I wonder if he was meaning that the catalog will be available for download in the future
