I can't see evidence in this lo-res pic that's it's fake. The chess guys have better things to do than faking pictures...
Conclusion: yes, I can believe this is a real picture.
Just to make sure... when installing the ASPI driver, did you run install.bat with the proper parameter (for instance XP32 for Windows XP)?
If you're using Windows XP then try this (Microsoft Knowledge Base).
If you're on Windows XP, NT, 2000, Me, 98 the answer is yes.
If you're following the instructions (and it was an ASPI problem) from the download site your drive should appear again.
Do you have the Java Runtime Environment installed? Scroll down to the bottom of this page which will take you to Apple's JRE setup instructions or something like that.
