  12. the obit was actually in today's paper which is why i didn't see it yesterday. apparently, from what i heard, he had sadly been neglecting his respiratory problems until three weeks ago! Kenny was a magical talent. i will really miss him but am very grateful for what he's left behind for his fans.
  13. i don't know how i missed this in today's paper! i found this out earlier this evening and am extremely saddened. Kenny was such a unique talent. hard to imagine being diagnosed with lung cancer and passing three weeks later!! guess there were some other complications. what a loss!
  14. without reading the book, that was my first thought. very sad.
  15. you said it very well. thank goodness i got to hear him innumerable times!
  16. i had an amazing experience last weekend: i went to a gallery exhibit where i was surrounded by over 70 Mingus album covers and old vinyl recordings of his!
  17. simple: too difficult!
  18. that is hysterical!! it might be the best birthday card Jim received!
  19. sorry for the lack of creativity in my wishes for your very happy birthday, Jim, but i just have to second everything Free For All said above!!
  20. i assume you meant Randy Brecker?!? sure wish i could catch this band!
  21. i'm trying to find out where and when she might be playing these days. actually sat next to her at the Jazz Bakery a couple of years ago. i think it was Bill Henderson's gig. she was delightful - very warm and friendly.
  22. Sad, sad, sad. Was he in Oakland? I was just listening to him with Wes and Monk yesterday. Well, at least I got to play with him a few times in '91 when he played the Parker Meridian for a while. I can verify what the other guy said, he was very nice. What a great family. Well, they did their thing and won't be forgotten. Bye, Buddy. i'm SO grateful i got to enjoy all three brothers over the years!! i think Buddy was around the Simi Valley area with family. not sure.
  23. oh, i am so, so, so sad about this! he was such a sweetheart. i knew he had been struggling for quite awhile. what a loss.
  24. gee, and here i was thinking that it's a godsend! just as an aside, your picture of Clifford Jordan is far more attractive to me!
