  5. i would say that my warped sense of humor thinks that's pretty damn funny as well as pathetic, Chuck!! i passed last weekend on going to a book-signing, film and concert dedicated to Mr. Granz. i also heard it was quite under-attended! on my stack at the moment: Steve Jobs bio Roger Ebert memoir and Wendy Wasserstein bio just finished Clark's autobio, which i enjoyed.

  9. Clint Eastwood hosted an event at the Monterey Jazz Festival last September entitled, "Jazz in Cinema". needless to say, he had access to wonderful film clips going back to the '20s, i believe. Wendell Pierce was an excellent co-host who provided Treme, Spike Lee and Katrina-related clips. it was a fascinating couple of hours.

  13. the fact is, unfortunately, that Bobby is quite frail but i'm SO glad that he got out to hear his buddies play all that good music. i'm hearing the same group here in L.A. tomorrow night.
  14. well, what happened to all the romantic stuff?!? sounds like they got flushed fast. all i know is that Kickstarter has given lots of support and helped a lot of jazz musicians get their projects done. maybe you shouldn't give up so easily.
  15. because everything is done through the headset and, after that, he would have been on camera nudging him. he did not look like he was sleeping to me. just eyes closed, perhaps "meditating". whatever it was, i'm sure everyone will survive it. he is an American Treasure!
  16. guess you haven't been listening to him all these years! very reliable sources say he was NOT asleep. he was waiting for his signal but could not hear it.
  17. "Sing the Truth" w/Dianne Reeves, Angelique Kidjo & Lizz Wright singing the music of Odetta, Miriam Makeba & Abbey Lincoln. Terri Lyne Carrington is the musical director. all this and Disney Hall too!! can't wait!
  18. i remember seeing him in the Village during the early '60s. an amazing photographer.
  19. judging from the picture, this guy must be long gone!
