  1. Very sad - RIP and thank you From happier days with the Westbrook bands: .
  2. Thanks for this! I get to be in London only about once a year, so I'm glad to have this, didn't know OTO were doing records/downloads. DLed it this morning and am listening now. I like it very much. DLed the other two recordings on offer too. .
  3. The true audiophile won't bother with a paltry mat. Nothing less than a Persian rug will do, maybe an Afghan at a pinch, but be careful as the Bukhara pattern interferes with the higher frequencies.
  4. Sorry to have missed you! I was in the first row - lucky to, because we had lunch at the cafe and we had just time to get our coffees in a paper cup and rush over to the Yellow Room. You didn't hang around after the show, did you? The frilly decoration, I understand from a wedding, was hilarious: I thought Kate might break into a can-can any moment. .
  5. Loved it as always! Especially the saxes and their solos. Here's the programme: (click to enlarge)
  6. German jazz journalist Werner Wunderlich died April 2nd, 2013. He was nationally and internatonally known for his work, especially as the successor of Joachim Ernst Berendt for the Südwestfunk Baden-Baden (later SWR) furthering intelligent jazz programmes & events (New Jazz Meeting Baden-Baden), organizer and initiator of live jazz (he ran the open air festival "Jazz im Palmengarten" in Frankfurt for 40 years) and much more. I'm very sad to see him go.
  7. If you can read French, here is a review for last Sunday's Paris performance of the Westbrook Trio: http://www.jazzmagaz...-paul-fort-2511
  8. Strange - All I see is something about Britney Spears writing novels ! I was just thinking how chuffed the Rolling Stones, Yoko Ono & Co. should be to be up there in the news with the Westbrooks
  9. Here's a link to yesterday's Telegraph article on the Trio's 30th anniversary. - And, here below, a screenshot from the Telegraph website
  10. About 20 minutes from now: BBC Radio3 - InTune - Mike Westbrook Trio (among other things)
  11. The only one I can remember is the 1975 Julie Tippetts album that has a date and signature on the inner sleeve. No idea if this is by a former owner or the artist. Idea anyone?
  12. Glad you made it to Devon, Bev. And the weather turning round just in time. Yes, on Mike Westbrook, due to finish around the end of the year. Be sure to take the car; it's quite a bit outside of N.A. Stuff Wynton ! The Ayes have it! There are a couple of reviews for the Newton Abbot Ellington concert at the Westbrooks' newsletter #92 here: http://www.westbrookjazz.co.uk/sai/index.shtml Lou Gare @ open rehearsal day last month (Hannahs, Seale-Hayne, Newton Abbot)
  13. Shouldn't wonder if he goes through two or three packets a day Regent's Park, London, 2007
  14. In the top left corner of this photo, which indeed was taken at the June 2007 "Village Band" gig in Drewesteignton, you can see the last of the cattle leaving before the music starts. Getting a ticket on the spot was all right for me too, once I had found someone willing to take my money. ok, it was just a frisian patterned chair
  15. Just in case you're not checking the Westbrook website on a regular basis: There is a 1 1/2 hour(!) interview with Mike Westbrook to be found here: http://soundcloud.com/barefootbroadcaster/the-mike-westbrook-interview Get yourself a glass or two of your favourite tipple, lean back and enjoy.
  16. So sad to see another great one leave.
  17. This time just the one from Citadel/Room 315: Bebop de Rigeur The full programme was Jones Checking In Stormy Weather East St. Louis Toodle-oo Creole Love Call Tulip or Turnip Something to Live For Graffitti Blighters Viennese Waltz Johnny Come Lately Brazilian Love Songs Bebop de Rigeur Alabama Song Flying Home Two hours of great fun.
  18. There were one, maybe two, numbers from Citadel - can't say excatly, will need to check my notes later (am still touring the Lake District).
  19. Hi Bob, didn't see you in Totnes . It was a really splendid gig, well played by everybody - with all the the summer's previous performances under their belt.
  20. Take a walk if you get there early .... in dry weather anyway Footpath Fingle Bridge 2007 was very wet
  21. Not staying for the night, are you? I saw the Village Band 2007 in Drewsteignton and stayed at the Old Inn right across from the Drewe Arms: Big fireplace, good breakfast and rooms. - Either way, enjoy the Big Band!
  22. I'll be at the Dartington Hall gig (8th Sept). - Anyone else?
  23. It's on! For 25th April, see here: BBC JazzOn3
  24. The website has been updated many times over the past weeks and Chris usually responds within a couple of days. Perhaps you'd best just give it another try. Maybe your mail went under the radar with all the updates going on.
