News just in! Gearbox Records are shortly releasing Nucleus with Leon Thomas live at the Montreux Jazz Festival on 20 June 1970. This is the first ever official commercial release of this historic performance and almost 70 minutes worth of music is spread over a double vinyl LP. More on this here:
No CD release?.......

I see this is due for release by Arhoolie next week:
and if it's anywhere as good as his other releases then it's a "must-have".
His album "Smokey Babe and his Friends" was the first blues album I ever bought - at Dobell's Record Shop in Charing X Road in the 60's. Released on Doug Dobell's 77 Records label......
... it's terrific and was later released on CD by Arhoolie as a 'two-fer' with Herman E. Johnson.

Dang! Found I have Google Chrome and all of a sudden, there's this pink "use this address button" that isn't displayed with the other two browsers (but mousing over that era, the cursor does show there's a link - though how could I have known). Hate those flash and other crap sites. Now I need to find a third disc that doesn't push this over the limit, not sure that will work. otherwise it's just these two, which will be good enough even though rather pricey!
Well done in getting an order placed....I can never get past the "use this address" page even with Google Chrome!
Unfortunately for me, if CDJapan doesn't have it then neither do I!

the kids are in the basement drinking.
.... and worse.....

Hurry your ass over to Amazon really quick to grab the Peter Kowald Discography box set for $25. 5 CDs and a full illustrated discography. It was $68 earlier this afternoon.
Thanks for the heads-up, colin.
Only £20 for delivery to the UK.... my order's in!

Can anyone post a list of the reissues in which this cd appeared or provide a link to a site?
thanks in advance.

Thanks. If Amazon UK sold any of my earlier releases then it will sell Tapscott. The distributor either has a relationship with UK Amazon or not. Not sure myself. Let me know if they did sell earlier reissues of mine and if so you're in luck. If not, I'll contact my distributor after you let me know. Thanks.
I can't remember whether I bought your previous releases through UK Amazon, but the only one currently showing on their site is the 'Clare Fisher - Extension'.

I'm still waiting for Amazon UK to set a pre-order date for "The Giant Is Awakened", even though Amazon US has had one for 21 October for some time now.
If you're reading this Jonathan can you confirm that you will be selling it through Amazon UK, please.

My order's in... thanks, Chuck.
This is the group I saw in London a year or two back... I've been looking forward to hearing this.

The right hand side is probably best for standard seats but you'll find that your seats will have already been allocated before you arrive. The seats to avoid are those on the left with a restricted view caused by several large pillars. You should also try to avoid being in the gangway, because the waiters run around at such a speed that you can easily be hit by them as they pass. My advice is to get there early and make sure you're happy with the seats before all the others are taken. Ask to be moved if you're not happy.
Looks like it'll be a fun night; I only wish I was in London then to see it.
Thanks for the insight, Head Man!
One question: when you say 'get there early' - how early for a 7:30 show?
I would think 7:00 pm should be OK.

or listen to both Moran and Fernandez/New Orch/Mad Dogs and enjoy them both for what they do differently. Works for me
.... and for me

Thanks for your comments, guys. I'm a sucker for these obscure releases so I'll probably take a chance and order it anyway.

Well we have a release date for the new Moholo quartet disc:
Louis Moholo Moholo, Alexander Hawkins, John Edwards, Jason Yarde
Based on a performance I saw last Autumn, this is likely to be marvellous.
Thanks for the heads-up.... it's on my wish-list.

Amongst a large batch of re-issues due out in Japan in November I noticed this one:
Anyone know anything about it?
-
Heard it on the radio last weekend... much better than I was expecting.
-
Not unexpected but very, very sad.
A terrific musician and a lovely person.. what a loss.
-
I don't get it. Is this 'jazz humour'?
Isn't that an oxymoron?

I skipped all Carmen McRae, not sure why ... any hidden gems amongst her Atlantic/Warner albums?
WPCR-27901 + WPCR-27902
Yes, I agree with that... her finest hour?
I've always been happy with the sound on my Atlantic Jazz CD which contains both of these (I think), so won't be buying these re-issues. BTW, I presume everything on these two is included on my CD?
-
Oh, I thought it was the brand-name for the shoes he was wearing.....

What model Arcam have you just bought, John?
I have an Arcam CD73 and copy-protected CDs play fine on that ... not so for CD-Rs, they're a bit hit and miss.
-
i think it's tasty. greasy tasty in a groovy now sound kind of way. this may be its first issue on cd?
I think it's been out before in Japan on Impulse.
-
I have picked up Elektra and Vortex titles too. I'm very happy wtih this series, most I've picked up I consider considerable sonic improvements over the earlier cds. They sound very good in my usual players, there are a few that sound a bit harsh when played through my oldest player, but the newest players reproduce them very well.
Any recommendations? Thanks.
The two Red Rodney/Ira Sullivan albums "Horizons" & "Spirit Within" originally on Elektra are both excellent as is the Chick Corea "Tones for Joan's Bones" originally on Vortex, which is the best sounding version I've heard (I think this has been discussed elsewhere on the board)
-
I wonder... has anyone NOT found an Atlantic release that they wanted to get?
BTW releases on the various Atlantic subsidiaries also seem to be generally available. I've picked up several on Elektra Jazz and Vortex.

My copy of "Silver Cornet" arrived today and, like John, I'm really enjoying it. Very nicely done, Chuck... thank you.
