  1. Ok, after finally seeing A&M on tv this season for the first time, I can say their #1 total offense ranking going into this game tonight against Arkansas was because they played some patsies. They're not looking good at all tonight against the Hoggies, and Arkansas doesn't even have that great a defense. Johnson is either not as good as the hype, or he's panicking on the bigger stage . Plus he has no protection - the O line is stinkin' it up. I think they'll be good eventually, but they're obviously not back yet. Arkansas' QB Mallett looks pretty good though.
  2. I just saw this article a little earlier, and was going to post it as well. Williams' head abused at facility PHOENIX -- A new book by a former employee of Alcor, the company that froze Ted Williams' remains, alleges the Baseball Hall of Famer's body was mistreated by the company. Larry Johnson says in the book "Frozen: My Journey Into the World of Cryonics, Deception and Death" that he watched an Alcor official swing a monkey wrench at Williams' frozen severed head to try to remove a tuna can stuck to it. The first swing accidentally struck the head, Johnson contends, and the second knocked the tuna can loose. Alcor Life Extension Foundation of Scottsdale, Ariz., issued a statement on its Web site denying the allegations and promising legal action. ...rest of the article is at the link above...
  3. Does this help your appreciation any?
  4. Have a great one, dude!
  5. Mitochondrials? Aren't those the things that Anakin Skywalker had a surplus of?
  6. They're gonna be surprised when UPS delivers those air conditioners to their front porches.
  7. Texas A&M is 3-0 right now, but really hasn't played anybody of substance yet. That will change starting on Saturday when they play Arkansas at the Jerry Jones Dome in Dallas. A&M leads the nation (!!!) in total yardage with 574/game, and QB Jerrod Johnson has played lights-out so far. The defense still has a way to go though, but there's alot of athleticism and speed on the team that wasn't there during the Franchione era. They've played 16 true freshmen and seven redshirt freshment this year already (most in the nation), so there should be a steady improvement over the next few years. I'm not sure they're good enough to hang with the Texas and Oklahoma teams yet, but they seem to be moving in the right direction. And in what's probably the death-knell for him, there's a nice write-up about Jerrod Johnson on SI.com. Hope the Ags can get six wins out of the season and back into a bowl game. It hasn't been alot of fun following them the past few years.
  8. Diana Krall - Quiet Nights Sophie Milman - Take Love Easy Smithereens - Tommy
  9. Cowboys are looking pretty crappy tonight. Romo doesn't have much spark tonight, though at least he hasn't thrown an INT yet. The defense doesn't seem to know how to tackle, either. I think Wade Phillips' time in charge is winding down. I didn't like T.O. and was glad to see him go, but they don't have a good WR corps right now, either. Gave up too much for Roy Williams, who is a better #2 WR than #1. Bad decision by Jerrah, which is going to cost them a few wins this year.
  10. Yep, Triumph has been on there. Here he is visiting Bonnaroo back in June. There are a Triumph/Tonight Show other clips on Hulu as well...
  11. RIP Kenny. He also plays with Sco on Miroslav Vitous' "Guardian Angels". I think those are their only two recordings together. Kenny's also fine on Kenny Garrett's "Songbook".
  12. I tend to agree with just about everything you said, take5. I'd like to see them take a left turn in their style again, like they were doing for a while. They still put on a fine concert though. I agree with Buzz about Start and Anesthetize - I also enjoyed quite a bit of The Incident live as well.
  13. Caught the Philly show last night. I really enjoyed it. I was impressed with them playing "The Incident" straight through, though I"m not sure all of its parts hold up well live. A few were standouts, including "Time Flies". There were a couple of technical glitches with guitar cables that seemed to annoy Steven Wilson a bit, but I think they got a laugh out of it after a while. The video guitar thing was interesting - he played it during "Russia on Ice". Not sure if there were technical problems with it either, but he switched half way through the song. Setlist: The Incident -- Start of Something Beautiful Russia on Ice Anesthetize pt 2 Normal Strip the Soul/.3 Bonnie the Cat -- Sound of Muzak Trains Overall it was a great performance, though I could quibble with a few of the song choices in the second half. A few mellower songs to divide the set up would have been nice. King's X opened, and they were ok. They didn't blow me away though - most of their songs (at least live) seemed to sound the same - same aggressve sound/tone throughout. Maybe I'll check out some of their cd's to see how they come off in the studio.
  14. Welcome back, MG. Speaking of Fela, I was in a taxicab in Philadelphia last night, and I saw the cabbie's ID - his name was Femi, like Fela's son. When we got to our destination, I said "Adupe" to him ("thank you" in Yoruban). You should have seen his jaw drop open when I said that. He looked at me and said - "Ok stop, when did you live in Nigeria??" I told him I had never been there, and his amazement deepened further. I reminded him that he was supposed to say "Ashe" or "Oshe" in return, and he started laughing. He said "you said Thank You to me in my language, and I say "You're Very Welcome" in yours". We shook hands, and he drove off with a huge smile.
  15. That really wasn't necessary was it? Couw was a great board member run off by unpleasant encounters on this board. C'mon Allen, you can be bigger than that.
  16. I agree too - I think Conan was edgier and funnier in NYC. He's still got the same wacky sense of humor which I enjoy, but it's tamed a little in Cali. I wonder if it's the lifestyle there, versus the Big Apple (?). Or if it's NYC corporate thinking to mellow him out. I guess the earlier audience skews a little older, so maybe NBC wants him to try to pick up some of the older audience of Jay's that are still up. I've watched a few minutes of Jay's show here and there, and am not impressed. He seems blander than ever to me.
  17. You can do it, Noj! I've gotten through it a couple of times now. I think you have to get through the first two levels with about 3:30 or more left. If you don't have that much time left, you're not likely to get through the third. If you can get through 1&2 with that much time left, there's just enough time left to get thru the last level, but you can't slow down, you just have to see everything - almost be looking at your next move while clicking on the last one still.
  18. It's actually not that expensive if you break it out on a per-disc basis ($230/13 = $17.70 per disc), for Japanese LP reproductions. The packaging and detail is wonderful. I bet some of you have spent more than $17.70 for Monday Michiru albums from Japan?
  19. Dave - since you have the mono box, you don't need the stereo Yellow Submarine cd. You have all of the Beatles tracks from the original YS release already, on the mono box. They are either on their original releases or on the Mono Masters set. The only remaining music you would lack from the original YS is the George Martin orchestral music. If you want that, then get the stereo YS set. I agree with Alexander that the Yellow Submarine Soundtrack (not to be confused with Yellow Submarine) is great.
  20. Happy Birthday, Ron! Thanks for all you bring to this board, as well as your discography efforts for Greg O.
  21. Miss you around here, John.

  22. Being crammed into tourist/economy class seats with the person in front of you a mere 8" away (or closer when they recline), and your knees banging into the seat is considered a luxury??
