  1. Happy Birthday!
  2. Is there an unwritten rule about stopping for another rider who's chain comes off? That seems odd.
  3. Happy Birthday!
  4. Wonderful pictures, Michael!
  5. Prog, not prog, I guess it really doesn't matter. It's Pink Floyd, however you want to label it. How good is it? YMMV. I can accept it being called a poprock opera; that's alot more accurate than substandard pop cwap or an atrocity.
  6. I have no idea what you're talking about. Are you saying The Wall generated female fans for PF? You make it sound like it's bad for females to like music that males like? And I'd suggest that the reason The Wall generated new fans (regardless of gender) is because of the radio hits. That these fans weren't fans since Piper doesn't have any bearing on The Wall itself. It's not my favorite PF album either way (and Final Cut is probably my least favorite PF album, for the record), but it's certainly not substandard pop "cwap".
  7. I think that's a little extreme. The Wall isn't their best album, but it ain't bad. Definitely some filler, but I'd rather listen to PF filler than alot of other band's best stuff. Also, the subsequent album is called "The Final Cut". It is essentially a Waters solo album, with minor input from Gilmour/Mason (Wright was out of the band at that point). I'm more of a Gilmour fan than a Waters fan, but I think in their prime together before things got out of balance, they were a great combination.
  8. From Roger Waters' Facebook account: So here's what happened. Last year, 'The Hoping Foundation' a charity that supports Palestinian refugee kids, (www.hopingfoundation.org) put on a fund raiser at Ronnie Scott's Club in London, the idea of which was to raise money by auctioning karaoke performances by various celebrities. David was there as a supporter and was moved to perform an impromptu rendition of George Gershwin's 'Summertime?' which he performed aided and abetted by supermodel Kate Moss. In the wake of that evening, someone, I think it was David himself, came up with this 'Wouldn't it be funny', idea. What if he (David that is) were to sing the old Teddy Bears song 'To Know Him Is To Love Him' with me (Roger that is), what with us having been so famously at each other's throats for years and years. Get it!!!! Anyway he E-mailed me with this suggestion and I loved it, so then it was just a question of juggling dates and deciding to do 'Wish You Were Here' and 'Comfortably Numb' to round out our little set. Or so I thought, until he sent me a number of very musical and eloquent demos of how we could do the song in two-part harmony. I listened with a sinking heart, knowing that David, with his superior vocal skills, could sing either part standing on his head, whilst I would have to search for a different key and then struggle through hours and hours of routining a performance that lay way outside my vocal comfort zone. To my eternal shame I bottled out and told Dave I would happily do 'Wish You Were Here' and 'C. Numb', but that 'To Know him is to Love him' was beyond me. Some weeks passed with David cajoling me from time to time, telling me how easy it would be, but I clung resolutely to my fear of failure until one day he made one final entreaty. I quote "If you do 'To Know Him Is To Love Him' for The Hoping Foundation Gig, I'll come and do 'C. Numb' on one of your Wall shows". Well! You could have knocked me down with a feather. How fucking cool! I was blown away. How could I refuse such an offer. I couldn't, there was no way. Generosity trumped fear. And so explaining that I would probably be shite, but if he didn't mind I didn't, I agreed and the rest is history. We did it, and it was fucking great. End of story. Or possibly beginning. Roger PS. Just heard from David, he will decide in due course which gig he wants to do, it will be a surprise!
  9. Happy Birthday!!!
  10. It seems like if you never lost a World Cup game, you should have at least one world championship to celebrate. I guess I know that's not how it works, but congrats to the Kiwis anyway!
  11. ...and yet, I'll bet it was Tiger who suggested they marry, not Elin. Just sayin'... I don't think that's why she married him, either. She seems to have far more integrity than he does.
  12. Viva Espana! Congrats to Holland for accomplishing as much as they did this year, as well!
  13. If that indeed was what they chose to play, that was one concert best avoided. Yeah, because Lord knows you can always see them on their frequent tours...
  14. Pigs flew again last night. Waters and Gilmour performed together at a benefit... Apparent setlist: To Know Him Is To Love Him Wish You Were Here Comfortably Numb Another Brick in the Wall (Part Two)
  15. I would be sorry about that, since I thought Derek was taking less money to stay in LA for his little girl's eye problem (of course, maybe treatment went well and is almost over). Is he really that worried about LA being dethroned by Miami? From what I gathered, L.A. has been trying to low-ball him on a new contract or something, so he's checking out other options. From the LA Times - "The Lakers have offered Fisher about $5 million over two years. He made $5 million last season and was hoping to secure a multi-year deal worth that much annually." Maybe he's feeling insulted at them trying to cut his pay 50%, when they also just signed free agent guard Steve Blake to a 4 yr $16M contract.
  16. Happy Birthday, Guy! :rsmile: :rsmile:
  17. Derek Fisher is talking with the Heat today about joining the team. Will be interesting to see who all ends up joining that team now.
  18. I think for the Cleveland folks, that's not a "quibbling" point but a major point of discontent. Abbott's trivializing how they feel about this by calling it quibbling. In Clevelander's eyes James betrayed them - they wanted him to be their Larry Bird, their Magic Johnson, their Tim Duncan - a star that is forever associated with one team. I think they also feel that their team did try to give him what it took to win it all, and he tanked it in the playoffs against the Celtics. HIM, not the team. Then for him to say something to the effect that there wasn't a possibility to win in Cleveland so he had to move on, when it was his failing that caused that, probably had to hurt. Especially in a city like Cleveland. I don't understand. How exactly did he betray the city of Cleveland?? Did he sleep w/ the Mayor's wife?? Did he steal from the city's payroll?? No, he gave 7 years of his basketball career to a team that never gave him the supporting cast that Bird, Magic, & Duncan had. Never. In the process he made the Cavaliers millions of dollars and made Cleveland matter again in the sports world. LeBron didn't screw them; the Cavaliers' owners did. If you read the Cav's owner's statement, he certainly feels betrayed - even uses that word in his statement. I would imagine his words echo the feelings of a number of Cavaliers fans. From Ian Thomsen's editorial on si.com (here): A simple news conference to announce his decision, along with a heartfelt thank you to the the Cavs and their fans would have been alot more appropriate. I think they have a right to feel somewhat betrayed by the local guy who made it big and then wasn't willing to make his career with the Cavs.

  20. +1 He's my type of player (despite him briefly being a Longhorn), in the mold of Tim Duncan/David Robinson.
  21. Worth a view! I didn't realize until today that Joe Walsh, who's playing guitar with Ringo on this tour, is also his brother in law (they're both married to the Bach sisters).
  22. Saw a rumor that Shaq might be going to Miami as well. He's obviously a role player now, but still a presence to be aware of in a half court game.
