  1. On the positive side, since you're vaccinated, it likely won't kill you, despite it not being a fun experience. Three people I knew died from Covid, before vaccines were available - an uncle, one immediate co-worker, and another co-worker's father.
  2. I don't know about that, but I'm personally more interested/impressed when I visit someone's house and see an actual physical collection, versus someone having no library other than digital, with nothing to actually look at. It doesn't mean they like music more or less, but I feel like I'm meeting a kindred soul. Saying that, I'm also at a point where I'm not interested in growing my own collection significantly larger, so I tend to cull things I don't listen to as much anymore, which makes space for newer purchases.
  3. Not me - I like the tactile experience of putting on an LP or a CD and playing/listening to it.
  4. Amazon used to make this statement on CDR listings: "This product is manufactured on demand using CD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply." I don't know if they still do or not. But if it is in the listing, they're at least warning you it's not a silver cd.
  5. Not sure about this, but it looks like Valerie Carter did support on at least some of the Browne/Orleans shows in 1976. Maybe she was who you saw. If that's who it was, Browne wrote a song about her ("That Girl Could Sing"), as did Steve Winwood ("Valerie").
  6. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/40148726/astros-ronel-blanco-ejected-foreign-substance-check You'd think the Astros would be extra committed to not cheating, given it's sort of their permanent reputation nowadays. But no. And I know other teams cheat as well, but they're posterboys for it. The Astros were my favorite team from about 1982 until the discovery of the cheating in the 2017 WS season, so about 35 years. Since then I've lived in Philly (and now Phoenix), so my loyalties are with the Fightin' Phils. Went to the last NLCS game in 2022 where they beat the Padres to advance to the WS, and then Game 4 of the WS, where the Astros beat Philly and then ultimately won (maybe legitimately this time?) the WS. Also went to 3 Phillies/Diamondbacks games during the regular season here in Phoenix in 2023, and then Game 4 of the NLCS vs the DBacks as well. So again, go Phillies!
  7. Who would've guessed the 2nd largest Hindu Temple in the world was in.... New Jersey? Swaminarayan Akshardham, Robbinsville New Jersey 10 May 2024
  8. These two and Number of the Beast are a perfect trifecta. Nothing after was quite the same, IMO.
  9. This looks wonderful. I'd love to do that hike - how long was it?
  10. The only CD issue on Discogs is from Russia. https://www.discogs.com/release/3955513-Jimmy-Smith-Bluesmith I'm going to guess it's not legit, but it says licensed from Universal to Lilith Ltd. There's one copy on discogs available, from Italy, but with shipping it goes for $44.
  11. Nice. I used to love travelling in the Hill Country when I lived in Texas, to see the bluebonnets. One of the last bluebonnet specific trips I took was to see Willow City Loop in Fredericksburg.
  12. I was in the Thunderbird Zia on Saturday a.m. for Record Store Day. I got there at 5:00 a.m., but there were already about 200 people in line, a number of whom had been camping overnight. Got the things I wanted, though, so it was a success. That's the location that is closest to me (I'm also in the north Scottsdale/Carefree Highway area), but it's still a 30 minute drive from my house. I also shop in the Bethany Zia location (which seems to be their "flagship" store, but only recently moved to that location from the one they'd previously been in for many years), but it is a little sketchier area of Phoenix. I've never felt threatened there though. I didn't realize you'd be here in town as long as you have been, or I'd have offered to meet up for a coffee or something.

  14. Sorry to hear, but glad you got to The In Groove regardless. Hope you enjoy the rest of your time here in the "Valley".
  15. This is a good one! I find things I love on every Ely record. Both his solo work and with The Flatlanders. I've meet and hung out with Joe a number of times when I lived in Texas. He's a great guy, and easy to talk to. I suspect his touring has slowed down substantially, sadly, as he's gotten older. Here's a song he released last year that isn't on an album yet.
  16. Thanks for sharing, Lon. I wasn't aware of that place, it's fascinating.
  17. Maybe the sailors beached themselves to hit up the Fun-O-Rama!
  18. We moved out here to the desert about a year ago now. One of the first things that people told us was if you have a cat (moggy is a GREAT word by the way!) or small dog, you don't allow them outside in your yard by themselves at all. Too many predators here that see them as a meal - coyotes, bobcats, even the occasional mountain lion. We see coyotes frequently, and hear them almost daily. Also see javelinas, rattlesnakes, scorpions and other fun things. Quite dramatic lighting and night sky, thanks for sharing!

  20. Thanks! I know this is a "catch-all" thread for photos, but the ones I enjoy the most are the ones that board members have taken and share here.
