  1. Happy Birthday Ray!
  2. While it may not make sense to you, there is a sizable portion of the population that lost respect for James when he put on that tv show (not just press coverage of an announcement, but an actual show hyping himself up). He was perhaps the most popular NBA star prior to changing teams, and now it's a different story. Why couldn't he have tried to win it all in Cleveland? They got to the NBA Finals with him and a bunch of lesser players, only to lose to the Spurs. Recruit one good player to Cleveland (which should have been easy, many would have been willing to play alongside James), and that probably would have put them over the top. Instead, he opted for the selfish "ME ME ME" alternative, and put on a big production to announce his back-turning on Cleveland. Looked like in his mind he was bigger than the sport. I like Dwyane Wade, and will be happy for him (and Haslem) should they win, but won't be rooting for James.
  3. I don't think it's the fact he left that bugs most people - I'd rather play with Wade than with Anderson Varejao too - it's how he did it. Athletes change teams left and right in this era, so he's no different in that regard. But to put on a huge show on ESPN, toy with the hometown fans who had never had a winner, be the face of Cleveland (what other sports star can you think of from Cleveland in the past 40 years?), and then to dump them and "take your talents" to Miami? That cost him a lot of respect, for many people. edit - was typing this when Nojjy posted, but pretty much agree with everything he said, obviously!
  4. Tuscaloosa, Alabama - 28 May 11
  5. All the best, Jim! Thanks for everything you do here for us.
  6. How is it unprovoked when you provoke him in the previous post?
  7. There were some glitches in their system that got people 1-3 free discs (just pay shipping) repeatedly, with no purchase obligations, if I recall correctly.
  8. Happy Birthday, David!
  9. The Petty box is available at that price in the stores, as well as online (here).
  10. For U.S. members, Best Buy is selling the deluxe Tom Petty live Anthology set for $29.99. This includes 5 cds (1 exclusive to this set), 1 blue ray, 2 dvds, and an lp (a '76 live bootleg show). It was upwards of $100 when it came out 2 yrs ago.
  11. Has anybody ever tried absinthe? The real stuff, which includes wormwood. I had a taste on my overseas trip a couple of weeks ago, definitely a strong anise-flavor to it. Just wondering what other's experience with "the green fairy" has been.
  12. Happy Birthday, Larry!
  13. Pictures from St. Maarten two weeks ago:
  14. Classless plays by Odom & Bynum in the 4th quarter.
  15. Happy Birthday, Mark! And congrats on your recent DB cover, keep 'em coming!
  16. We went camping last weekend on Lake Mathis, and there were burn bans in effect everywhere. Severe drought conditions and very dry wood and brush everywhere makes for a seriously dangerous situation. I'm guessing it's just a matter of time before water rationing (at least for lawn watering) kicks in again.
  17. Thanks everyone! Going out for a nice steak dinner tonight with my bride and my two kids, so can't ask for much more than that! Hard to believe this board has been active for 8 years now - here's to another 8 and then some! I know you had to have been working on that for a long, long time, Free!! Well done!
  18. Happy Birthday, Flurin! Thank you for all you bring to this community!
  19. What? No PT, Blackfield, SW solo stuff??? There actually was a SW release for Record Store Day, but only in the UK, I believe. A split 7" vinyl with Oceanside, consisting of their tracks from the Tim Smith/Cardiacs tribute album. I dunno that I want this one track enough to buy the single on Ebay or wherever though. Might be easier to just buy the tribute album itself at some point! I think I have all the major SW recordings, but not all the guest appearances. Would be tough to be a completist!
  20. I ended up with the Crowded House live set and the Hendrix cd single. Was hoping to get the REM single box and the Pink Floyd live 66/67 too, but didn't see them.
