Happy BirthDay Brooks - I appreCiate all of the Knowledge you Have brought ovEr the yeArs to this boarD, and miss the good ol' live chat days!

I'm ok with giving SS1 credit for his picks. I know there are times when we're out of pocket, especially during holidays. If someone is consistently forgetting to put their picks in, that's different. Not fair to the group if someone can't get their picks in on time, then continues to say they picked 'em all correctly, after the fact.

So - does a ball that goes exactly over the top of a goal post count as a FG or not? Half the ball has passed over the crossbar, and half hasn't. In other words, did Oklahoma State get robbed yesterday or was that a good call?
-
Does that mean if any part of the ball passes inside the imaginary goal post, then it's a FG? (just like if any part of the ball passes over the imaginary plane of the goal line it's a td) Because I think at least part of the ball passed inside the imaginary goal post. Or does that mean that theoretically the ball would have hit the imaginary goal post, and therefore bounced out and it's no FG?
-
Bama and Oregon both! That FG looked pretty good to me, but I wasn't standing right under the goal post like the guy who gets paid to make that call. Rough day for OSU, no doubt.

Iowa State just intercepted Weeden in the 2nd OT! Now they just scored, and won the game!! Whoa!!
-
Oklahoma State playing Iowa State tonight, and they're going into overtime. If ISU somehow pulls off this upset, who ends up #2 in the BCS rankings (with inside track to national championship game)?
-
That's an interesting lineup. Have you seen them?

Not much action on this corner in a long time! Anybody check out the newest live release, Medeski Scofield Martin Wood's "In Case the World Changes Its Mind"? Double disc set that's just $10 at Amazon right now. Covers tracks from both A Go Go and Out Louder. I haven't nabbed it yet, but plan to.

sickening penn state football allegations

How can anyone prove/disprove that the person who comes forward now is the same person that was allegedly raped in 2002? If he was 10-12 then, he'd be 19-21 now. Difficult to tell if it's the same person - the only witness was McQueary, and he presumably hasn't seen the victim since 2002. Sandusky's lawyer could pay and trot any 20 year old out and have that person say Sandusky never raped him. Unless the state has already interviewed the actual victim, and can confirm it is the same person (?). -
Just listened to mine today - this cd rocks - well worth what Skid's asking.

Heard a little bit about this today - the talking heads were saying that the bail should have been set at at least $500K, and he should have been required to wear an ankle monitor. Yet this particular judge set bail at $100K without explanation, and no monitoring. No comments from the judge, either. How could she *not* recuse herself from anything having to do with Sandusky, being a volunteer for his organization?? What the hell. -
I saw this in a local indie store (the only local indie store left) this weekend too, but wasn't sure what it was. I wasn't even aware of it. Any good?

Interesting info regarding McQueary, from SI.com: If this is true, my regard for him has gone up a little bit - though it still baffles me as to why not a single person - McQueary included - went to the police, ever. -
Happy Birthday!

He *didn't* wait ten years. He promptly reported it to his boss, Joe Paterno. That is exactly what you said earlier in this thread that employees are supposed to do - use the chain of command, not go to the police. You're not being consistent here. -
I haven't reached a conclusion on this album either way. I'm currently listening to the 3rd disc in the deluxe package - interesting. I think Wilson's work with the King Crimson reissues has obviously touched him, and contributed to the Weather Report vibe that exists on some of this. I'm not sure that's his forte, but then he's always been sort of a consumer of other sounds that filter their way into his music. As good as the music is, generally, I could see an argument that Porcupine Tree's last few albums haven't really carved much new ground, either. Though he has advanced every couple of releases in the past, maybe what comes next will be that next step.

Happy early Birthday, Rolf! Gonna try a Santo in your honor tonight. Glad to see you 'round these parts. -
SW has posted 4 live tracks on his soundcloud page, from the current tour - No Part of Me, Deform to Form a Star, Sectarian, and Index. Get 'em here... edit - That is to say, they're available for listening, I don't see a download link. Hopefully that shows up soon!

If you KNEW someone abused children before and was allowed to remain around them, then it was reported to you that that person raped yet another child, your only thought is to wash your hands of it - legally speaking - by reporting it to your boss?? Then when that person is allowed to continue hanging out in showers with young boys, and you know it - you feel you have done your job, so all's good? Yes, I'd say you would be guilty of not doing enough, if all you did was report it to your boss, and nothing else. Absolutely. Wash my hands....I can't even believe you said that. I have dedicated my LIFE to the education and protection of my students. How dare you even assume you know what's in my heart or in my ability to report on such things. I mean the absolute nerve. All Paterno knows is an alleged eye witness told him of sexual abuse. That's it. All I ever know is what the student tells me. That's it. I make the report and contact CPS through my written response. That is all I can do. Yet you have the unmitigated gall to sit in judgement of me and my abilty to discharge my legal duties as a frontline reporter of child abuse? Really? I am singularly amazed, Aggie. Tell me, have you had to report on child abuse...ever? I'll be as direct as I can with you, Aggie...you have absolutely NO idea what you are talking about. None. You asked a question for which there is a yes or no answer. I gave you my answer. The answer that works for me. Your response indicates you will do exactly what is legally required of you. That is fine. I never accused you of not doing what is legally required. For me that is not enough. -

While he have have done enough legally, he SURE didn't do enough morally. There's grand jury evidence that Paterno knew about an on-campus Sandusky molestation in 1998 - Sandusky even admitted to wrongdoing, and Paterno basically let Sandusky stick around the campus anyway. If you don't think everybody deferred to Joe Paterno on that decision, you're fooling yourself. Then 4 years later, when another Sandusky child rape occurs in the PSU football showers and is brought to Paterno, his decision is to just let his "bosses" know? "Oh by the way boss, Sandusky was caught 'horsing around' in the showers with a 10 year old again." Mentally, he's ok with whatever happens after that? To include allowing Sandusky to continue to be on campus AND continue to bring young boys to the football team showers repeatedly?? Reportedly the number of victims that have come forward is about 20 now (8-9 are confirmed or at least credible at this point). For that he should be roundly condemned. Legally maybe he did enough. Morally, he's a complete, utter failure. To be sure, Sandusky is the monster. But McQueary (the 2002 witness who by remaining silent appears to have been promoted up the coaching ranks at PSU), Paterno, the AD, and the school President (and any others who were reported to) are all guilty of allowing that monster to continue his evil. Had Paterno gone to the police after reporting to his boss, he'd be revered in the public eye for being morally upright. Whether he was at risk of losing his job (as the most powerful person at PSU, doubtful) or not. And even if he had somehow bizarrely lost his job, there would have been dozens of equivalent jobs available to him around the country immediately. But since he didn't and aided in the continued coverup, he deserves the public scorn he'll have the rest of his life. In my opinion. -

Don't forget to add in a dead or MIA District Attorney, who apparently tried to destroy his computer's hard drive before he turned up missing. Or somebody who wanted him gone tried to destroy it.
