  1. I'm picking the Texans for the first game today. Do we have to pick all the games before the first one starts, or can we pick each of them up until game time? I'd rather just pick straight up than against the spread, I think, like we've been doing all season.
  2. There was one about 8 years ago in a Texas vs Texas A&M game. I think that's the last one that has happened in college football, so they're pretty rare. Not sure why this merits it's own thread, though.
  3. Perhaps "not getting it" and "not liking it" aren't the same thing.
  4. Glad I caught this, I thought we were done! I'm not sure how I managed to catch back up, I thought Moose was going to take it all. I don't think the website is letting us make our picks yet for the playoffs though - anybody else having problems?
  5. Apparently her first job out of Notre Dame was as a DJ at Corpus Christi's hard-rock radio station, C-101. That's an odd first job out of Notre Dame. I remember listening to her when she moved on to Houston and was doing radio things for the Rockets and Astros.
  6. Some of the craft breweries or microbreweries in the U.S. produce much better beer than the big corporate beer makers (Budweiser, Coors, and Miller and their ilk). That said, I prefer European beer in almost any case.
  7. Jade says Happy Birthday!
  8. The deluxe version of Raven is up for pre-order on Burning Shed as of today. It's a 4 disc set (the album, demos, DVD-V and Blu Ray) in a big book, looks nice. Price is $64, which isn't all that bad I suppose, but the shipping is $27 this time around. Ouch. I'm really having to think about that. Gets expensive for what amounts to 3 discs of the essentially the same material and a demo disc.
  9. Vajerzy - I got home too late to make my pick before kickoff tonight, but I've got Denver, if you're willing to update mine for me. Thanks!
  10. Happy Birthday, John!
  11. Happy Buzzday!
  12. It was just a mirage - vajerzy is looking at all of us in his rear-view mirror now!
  13. Thanks Lon - haven't spun it yet. Took my son to see Life of Pi this afternoon instead. Really enjoyed it!
  14. My copy finally arrived today, along with North Atlantic Oscillation's "Grappling Hooks" 2 disc set, and Engineer's "In Praise of More" 2 disc set. My personal Black Friday purchases I guess! Now if I can convince the kids to find somewhere to go, I can crank it up!
  15. I went back and re-read this. What's even more interesting to me than Richard's comments about the individual albums are the comments about Steven. He obviously has some great respect for Steven as a songwriter, but how he interacts with the rest of the PT band members seems like an issue for Barbieri, as well as how SW wasn't exactly "professional" early on. I wonder if this is indicative of tension between SW and RB, and maybe a factor in why SW wasn't ready to work with PT again any time soon.
  16. Nice interview with Richard Barbieri, who goes back and discusses the evolution of PT's different studio albums. http://www.rocksquare.com/community/featuredartists/1548
  17. It's statutory rape. People at that age - legally - aren't capable of making informed decisions about stuff like that.
  18. Lucky for sure! Thing about the Lambs game is that since everybody muffed on that one, it really doesn't matter for anybody. Same for the games that we all pick correctly. Only the ones where at least one of us has picked differently really make a difference in the overall standing.
  19. Well, he's 4th all-time in NFL history in Passer Rating (behind Aaron Rogers, Tom Brady, and Steve Young). And he's #1 all-time in the NFL in Net Yards per Pass Attempt. 6th all-time in Pass Completion %. So that means he's played relatively well all things considered. He's remembered for his mistakes more than what he does well - mainly because he's the Dallas Cowboys QB, and also those mistakes often come in big games.
  20. And not even a useful one. And what's the deal with Romo anyway? First he's hot, then he's not. What gives? A couple of things, in my opinion: A. He's always been a wildcatter (like Jerry Jones) who thrives while improvising. Sometimes that works well, sometimes not so well. B. His offensive line this year is the worst in the NFL. Because of that there's no run game, and there's not much time for him to get passes off cleanly all the time. He got sacked 7 times yesterday, which weren't his fault. C. His current crop of WRs just aren't that good: Dez Bryant had a big game yesterday, but can't be relied on to be where he's supposed to be on a route, ever. Miles Austin is breaking down physically too much these days. Ogletree was a flash in the pan, and can't be relied on either, like Bryant. Witten tryed to play too soon, after lacerating his spleen in the preseason. He wasn't healthy, and couldn't catch the ball. He's finally rounded into shape, but he's not that fast, and doesn't do anything other than go down once he makes the catch these days. D. Jason Garrett makes some strange, very predictable play calls. Not head coach material, let alone offensive coordinator. Add that all up and it leads to Romo's interceptions, scrambling, sacks, etc.
  21. Dallas' offensive line absolutely stinks. They can't support the run nor can they pass block. And Jerry Jones is an idiot. That is all.
  22. I think the Spurs are a model franchise, perfectly put together and run - particularly for a small market. Will be interesting to see how they evolve once Duncan and Ginobili retire. I don't think that's too far off. The Spurs started in 1973, so they're not a very old franchise, relatively speaking. They have been beloved in San Antonio from Day 1, though, back when they had James Silas and The Iceman, George Gervin, and later Artis Gilmore. They had ups and downs, until drafting David Robinson in 1987, who still had 2 yrs on his Navy commitment so didn't actually play til '89. In 1989 they drafted Sean Elliott, got a new coach in Larry Brown, and traded for Terry Cummings (and I think Paul Pressey about the same time). That's when they suddenly became a force in the NBA, and really haven't stopped since, for 22 years now. But for me the two flagship franchises in the NBA are the Lakers and the Celtics, who both far and away have more championships than any other individual team. Not the Knicks, regardless of their financial success or whatnot.
  23. Can we (at the individual level) remove the menu on the left? I don't need it as long as a "View New Content" button remains available, so really it just takes up space and makes the thread content have to fit in a smaller space.
  24. Curiosity got the best of me - St. Arnold Divine Reserve tonight:
