  1. I just got a mail from Mosaic announcing Classic Vanguard Small Group Swing Sessions. Featuring sessions by Vic Dickenson, Ruby Braff, Sir Charles Thompson, Joe Newman, Buck Clayton, Jo Jones, Jimmy Rushing and A night at Count Basie's. 7 CD's. A second set featuring piano sessions will follow. From the website: Michael Cuscuna was very much involved in the direction of this set and it is one of the last that he produced. -Scott Wenzel
  2. This is the track listing on Peter Losin website: Bird in Kansas City (Verve 06024 6804735) (plosin.com)
  3. These recordings are now in the public domain in the USA because they are a 100 years old. Yes they have been reissued umpteen times. but with the addition of recordings influenced by Oliver and recordings from Armstrongs own collection makes this a must have for me. The rest of King Olivers recordings are not in the public domain in the USA. Therefore Archeophone can not issue them. And moste are electronically recorded and thus outside the scope of Archeophone. They are available from the Frog label: DGF 34 King Oliver Vocalion & Brunswick recordings volume 1 Sugarfoot stomp DGF 35 King Oliver Vocalion & Brunswick recordings volume 2 Farewell blues DGF 64 The complete Victor recordings volume 1 Call of the freaks DGF 65 The complete Victor recordings volume 2 New Orleans shout DGF 68 King Oliver Blues singers & hot bands on Okeh 1924-1929 Three missing alternate takes are on: DGF 71 Frog spawn the first batch These CD's do not contain the 2 sides with Jelly Roll Morton and the accompaniment by Oliver and 2 Ida Cox sides on Paramount. The duets with Jelly Roll Morton are on Jazz Oracle BDW 8065 Jelly Roll Morton rarities.
  4. Pre ordered it. And ordered the Ford Dabney 2 CD set as well.
  5. It runs from 14-5-1937 until 26-10-1937. Wich is the last session of 1937. 49 tracks and no mistakes I'm happy to report.

    Frog Records

No but Frog does not flood the marked. So I still buy them.
  7. Yes I did. A dud if ever there was one.
  8. I have a copy of that record. I'll see if I can make an mp3 of it in the weekend. The label is signed Gil Evans. Listening to it is suffering for science.
  9. The discs are still chronological. What I don't like is that the 'lesser' pieces (disc 3) are separated from the masterpieces (disc 1 & 2). Just my opinion. One can always use the shuffle mode on one's CD player.
