  1. You would think this being the third one that the fans wouldn't end up rioting and flipping cars. P.S. Now that they got rid of the last part of The Curse of Bambino with a win @ Fenway.
  2. I take the Jags. Schiano is a disaster (who should have never been hired) and I don't see anyone on that team wanting him back next year. The only reason I can see that he hasn't been fired is they want to make sure to get the #1 pick. It's really come down to them and Vikings in the hunt for Bridgewater. All three teams desperately need a QB. P.S. If they get embarrassed by the Seahawks I can see him being fired before their next game, which is a Monday Night game @ home. That's going to be one empty stadium, and a lot of booing on National TV by those that bother to go.
  3. they better lose against the Heat next time if they wanna tank. ps Carter Williams is alredy listed as rookie of the year candidate #1! M. Carter-Williams G 36:10 6-10 4-6 6-8 +12 0 7 7 12 1 9 1 0 0 22 Helps that they sat out Wade to rest his knee. Only the second game of the season and his knee is already an issue. They might have to sit him on back to back games the rest of the season. Not sure why LeBron will won't to come back next year.
  4. Condolences to the fans of the Cardinals. Can't leave 9 people on base and expect to win. Congratulations to the World Champions and their fans. First WS win in Fenway since 1918. P.S. It's on once again next year! P.P.S. The amount of texts, and emails from family and friends was crazy during the game. Now that they won....
  5. I saw Lou Reed at several jazz gigs I have attended over the years in NYC. More than once I saw him at a Sonny Rollins gig... and he was a very enthusiastic audience member as I recall. "Walk On the Wild Side" had some nice Tenor Sax and upright bass on it. Anyone know who the players were? John Cale is still around... Ronnie Ross on sax and Herbie Flowers on bass. P.S. Maureen Tucker is also still above ground. And Doug Yule. And apparently turned into an undead Tea Party nut! Always have to laugh when people suddenly get "born again", or whatever....and then do the exact opposite of what they're supposed to believe in.
  6. As part of this year's London Jazz Festival.....The European premiere of Smith's Ten Freedom Summers to be preformed from Nov. 21-23. http://cafeoto.co.uk/ljf-wadada-leo-smith-ten-freedom-summers.shtm

  8. Yeah, I thought about that...but something just doesn't sound right. There are tapes for the very first Hat Hut....but not the other two later ones they had to needle drop on? Uehlinger doesn't come across as someone who would throw out the original tapes....especially anything by McPhee. The whole thing started to record McPhee. It's like Chuck throwing out AACM related tapes, or any tapes. The early Joe McPhee records on CJR were put out by Craig Johnson and McPhee. Uehlinger and Hat didn't come into the picture until a little later. Yes I know, but we're talking about Hat Hut recordings and not the CJR. Even the CJR reissues by Avatastic were not needle drops. P.S. Keep in mind; I haven't heard C vs D's reissues of Glasses and Variations on a Blue Line/'Round Midnight to confirm they were needle drops.
  9. I was looking up NBA payrolls to see if the Sixers met the cap payroll minimum. I found the Celetics have $21.8 million & Lakers have $16.4 million in dead money to players...some of whom haven't played in a decade, or longer. I didn't realize the deferred stuff were considered part of the Cap hit. The Sixers are way under the minimum by $12 million, but not sure how up-to-date. As I understand the rules. They still get charged the minimum, and the difference is divided between those on the team as decided by the NBAPA. They rather have $12 million, or whatever it ends up being divided between the team then spend it just to make the minimum needed on players that can help them win games. If that doesn't tell you that they're tanking the season. http://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/BOS.html http://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/LAL.html http://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/PHI.html
  10. Bynum's contract was covered by insurance so the Sixers didn't pay him a dime. Noel is signed to the standard NBA rookie contract so they are actually saving money by drafting him and trading Holiday. The Bynum trade was horrible and I and many other Phillly sports fans said so from the moment it was announced. I liked the idea of trading away Holiday(Sixers were going to be a perennial "bubble" team with him which is the kiss of death in the NBA. Plus Holiday has big contract which would have hampered their rebuilding efforts. He's a very good player but not someone you would build around.) but for Noel?? Yes, his knee gives me pause but his lack of an O game worries me too. The kid is RAW. They should have passed on him. I think the Sixers have a legit shot at bettering their NBA season record of 9-73. I think winning even 6 games is a stretch for this team. Sad. 1. I know it was insured. All the contracts are insured to cover things like that. It's still a waste of millions.... Yes, Noel is cheaper and you can't teach height but he's completely one dimensional....and his knee injury is so bad it will be 20 months after his initial injury by the time he plays....which hurts his development even more. It really comes across as a pick to make sure they have a better hope of landing Wiggins in the whole Tank for Wiggins that several teams will be doing. 2. Mark Cuban is in fine form. Just fired the GM he just hired 3 months ago.
  11. Add in he's a few weeks from turning 38. Hatcher was 30. It's miraculous what he's doing @ his age.
  12. This get's even more obvious. The alleged winner has a tumblr and youtube channel. Not a single reference to the Residents in anyway....the only one is suddenly this bogus "box set" Another thing....not a single picture looks like the person that is pictured shaking hands with Flynn. http://tripmonster.tumblr.com/ http://www.youtube.com/user/tripmonster
  13. Just came across this. http://www.loureed.com/guilty/

  15. Yeah, it's a pretty bad year...but the Niners have played a schedule of cupcakes that makes you think the York's have pictures of Goodell in a comprising situation. It's really hard to tell with the Seahawks, even. Their schedule is just as much of a cupcake. Yeah, the Niners beat the Rams but they stink and Fisher is @ best a mediocre coach. Anyone really looks @ his record will see he's completely overrated.
  16. I saw Lou Reed at several jazz gigs I have attended over the years in NYC. More than once I saw him at a Sonny Rollins gig... and he was a very enthusiastic audience member as I recall. Saw him @ the Stone a few times. I find it interesting no one has reported on how like Steve Jobs he was able to game the transplant system by going to a different state with a shorter waiting list.
  17. Completely forgot about those. Have had access to the original vinyl and made copies. Now, I will have to order them as well. It's like when Atvastic started reissuing FMP releases before FMP imploded, or whatever the real story about what happened. You mean beside directly from C vs D? . The earlier C vs D reissues were noticeably needle drops anyway so you've beaten them to it Blue Train Well, if they're needle drops....I will pass. Makes me wonder about Black Magic Man.
  18. The thought of the Evil Empire only a game away from their 3rd WS in 9 years....and having to deal with an entire off-season of family and friends. If only the would allow me to forget it.
  19. Completely forgot about those. Have had access to the original vinyl and made copies. Now, I will have to order them as well. It's like when Atvastic started reissuing FMP releases before FMP imploded, or whatever the real story about what happened. You mean beside directly from C vs D? .
  20. The thing I find interesting is that it includes Black Magic Man....ironic that it's the very first Hat Hut recording not reissued by Hat Hat....and says a lot about Hat Hut's problems.
  21. Eli only goes from playing like he shouldn't even start in Pop Warner to being relevant about now.
  22. Just want to point out that George P. Marshall (who picked the name) was a clear cut bigot. Try checking when he finally integrated the team. They were the very last team in the NFL to do it. Hey, @ least they beat out Alabama. They were the Boston Braves until the bigot took over and moved the team. Before every game....they would play Dixie before the The Star-Spangled Banner into the 60's/ When the bigot died in 1969....his foundation had one clear directive....not a single penny spent to “any purpose which supports or employs the principle of racial integration in any form.” Once again....I have no problem @ all with the Onion piece...especially with regards Dan "Cries Wolf" Synder.
  23. @ the very least he was into Albert Ayler, Coltrane, Cecil Taylor, Don Cherry, etc. Oh yeah..... "When I started out I was inspired by people like Ornette Coleman. He has always been a great influence." Lou Reed P.S. Speaking of Ornette Coleman Has anyone really listened to European Son? P.P.S. The Bells (Albert Ayler reference, anyone?) with Don Cherry....back to Ornette Coleman.
  24. This is depressing to watch. http://www.wusa9.com/video/default.aspx?bctid=2777862235001
  25. The "everyone who bought one of those 30,000 copies started a band" quote attributed to Brian Eno about the first VU album has been wheeled out a few times today Velvet Undreground Live 1969 was the album that did it for me....thanks Lou The Punk equivalent to that would be everyone (there was like 40 people in attendance) that saw the Sex Pistols @ the Lesser Free Trade Hall in 1976 started a band. P.S. Same place the Judas incident happened with Dylan years earlier.
