Yeah, and re changing the thread title, I've considered "Hat and Beard". Don't know if Dolphy's (beard) would qualify him for membership, though. (Here - yes, Taliban - ?????)

Names, please. I'll leave that for individual consideration. It also appears that at least one post has been deleted. Yours Mullah Pepe

Reading through that other thread, I guess I don't want to be involved. Some of the posters seem to be more fundamentalist than any Taliban high priest.

Thks, I just noticed - could'nt find it when I searched the board before starting this one. To early in the morning, perhaps

Mike at AAJ has started a thread where TE is available for comments and answering questions - (hope it will not be questioning from some of the most hardcore BNBB veterans)

Drummer does'nt look like Phil Seamen to me. And who's the bass player? Harriott often had Shake Keane on trumpet, but this is not him. Could it be Jimmy Deuchar? As for time period: Its probably an out door arena (nobody would like those stripes in their room) , and very little jazz was played out doors in the forties, so I guess sixties. Any out doors events in Britain back then. Bracknell?

I just bought I let a song go out of my heart and the Real Deal directly from her http://www.jessicawilliams.com Fast service and more money to the artist. And I don't agree she does'nt hold up for repeated listening, I always spend some time figuring what she is dong in the left, the lines in the right and the interaction. Of the two, after just a couple of listens I actually like Real Deal best - thought maybe it would be the opposite. Might have something to do with the Ellington tunes played by other piano players than Edward Kennedy - I always tend to think about what he sounded like. IMO he was an excellent piano player with very individual voicings and a fantastic sense of dynamics.

Danish trombone player Erling Kroner started a thread on Jædig at AAJBB a week or two ago - some info on available recs there

Atomic/SchoolDays do a joint concert at Molde Jazz Festival, Norway (Jul 12 - 17), Atomic plays a club date on their own at the same festival, and Vandermark also performs with Haavard Wiik and Ingebright Flaten in Freefall (inspired by Jimmy Giuffre trio). Others: Brad Mehldau, Joshua Redman, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Branford Marsalis w/Calderazzo, Stevie Wonder, Sex Mob, Terje Rypdal, Palle Mikkelborg, Jean Michel Pilc, Richard Galliano "Piazolla Forever", Tord Gustavsen, Juhani Aaltonen etc etc. http://www.moldejazz.no

Not first time in jazz, I believe - I seem to remember that Vienna Art Orchestra used the Alpenhorn when I heard them some 15 -20 years ago - and a very long one too.

Thanks again. This is truly a desert island candidate, and at 10 euro it's a bargain. I've had the original Jazztone LP for decades, and I still get a kick out of this great rhythm section, beautiful tight swinging ensembles and inspired background riffing, the string of beautiful soloes - particularly I think Hawkins delivers some of his best work ever. In a sane world this should sell millions.

Thanks. Could'nt find it at amazon. I'll check elsewhere.

Info on availability of The Big Reunion, anybody? I have the original vinyl, and friend of mine wonders if it's been reissued and is availabe on CD.

Just a little off topic: Drummmer Audun Kleive this week released his new CD called "Uhmagoddabl". The reason for the title: All the record company execs said "Oh my God" after listening to the master. I should add that the reaction was more shock than appreciation.

Hm - and nobody missed you?

Same here.(obviously) I just emailed michael ricci asking what's happening.

In the meantime I'll recommend Finnish tenor player Juhani Aaltonen's trio recording "Mother Tongue". He's playing the way Garbarek hints at on Universal Syncs. Excellent CD.

I don't want to see Spears, Britney to go from Sims, Zoot to Stravinsky, Igor.

When sober he still delivers. What I've heard from him when drunk (Griffin. not me) has been below par - occasionally a disaster. He needs someone to look after him before he gets on stage.

AAJ attracts a number of young people discovering jazz, getting valuable information from the board's more established fans. I think that's a good thing and that alone is enough to see AAJ has a mission. In addition the board has quite a few valuable nonUS members giving a different perspective It also has a number of posts it's possible to digest even if you have work to do and a family to look after

...and I still walk with a limp. I hit a moose a few years ago (driving my wife's car) - or rather, the moose hit the car - and correct, when I got out the car (I was OK, the car quite a bit damaged) the moose got to her feet and disappeared into the forest, with a huge limp. Because she was hurt, I had to call the local authorities reporting the incident, and one hour later they located and shot her. The meat was donated to some home for retired people in the community. Therefore. Jazzmoose, don't expose your limp.

Has anyone attended any of these festivals?

I passed through Bergen about 20 years ago when inter railing with my wife. The scenery is certainly spectacular. Bergen it self seemed most remarkable for the number of stoned addicts rolling around the city parks, shooting up in broad daylight !! An eye opener for an eighteen year old. That's a good one! I'll report your impression of Edvard Grieg's home town to the local authorities -

On behalf of that part of the world - thank you for those kind words.
