  1. Cyril, That's a duplicate. You posted it yourself back on February 22.
  2. I played recordings earlier this week from a session he made for Melrose. Only two of the four tunes were issued. All are on the Capitol Mosaic box. His playing on the ballads (Pennies From Heaven, which was issued, and on Body and Soul (two unissued versions)) is magnificent.
  3. Mr. Ed was the real star of the show. Ever notice how much time he spent with his horse? Incidentally, the theme song was written by the team of Jay Livingston and Ray Evans.
  4. Here's a link to some other figures based on responses from 2002: http://www4.uwm.edu/FLL/linguistics/dialect/staticmaps/q_105.html
  5. Damn. Wonderful player. Sorry he's gone. RIP.
  6. A few days ago, Sidewinder asked (in another thread): >>> 'Bebop Highlights' (Temple M-555). Parker/Gillespie/Powell air-check jam from circa 1951. Anyone know anything about this 'Temple' label and where it came from? >>> I thought this belonged in the Discography forum. Information available on line is inconclusive. There are references to it being a UK label, a Danish label, or perhaps a Boris Rose label. My best guess is that it was a Danish label. It seems to be unrelated to the 78 rpm reissue label of the same name. Here's a summary of the issues that I could find: Temple M-550: Duke Ellington And His Orchestra 1940-1941 Temple M-551: Ellington at Fargo, Vol. 1 Temple M-552: Ellington at Fargo, Vol. 2 Temple M-553: Count Basie at the Savoy Ballroom, 1937 I can't find a picture of this issue on line. Temple M-554: Duke Ellington And His Orchestra 1941-1943 Temple M-555: Bebop Highlights
  7. Some information on line suggests it might be a UK issue. However, other sources suggest that it might be a Danish label from the mid 1960s. Finally, as mentioned below, it might be a Boris Rose issue. Here's a copy of the label, which doesn't provide any help Here's a not very helpful picture showing the record cover as well: I searched for similar catalog numbers and found a few, including this for M-554: Here's Temple M-551: And Temple M-552: The following page mentions that the label was associated with Boris Rose: http://www.depanorama.net/dems/02dems2b.htm Here's the cover of Temple M-550: So, that covers M-550, M-551, M-552, M-554, and M-555. What about M-553? All I can find is this item, but it's a completely unrelated 78 reissue label: Perhaps this should be moved to discography.
  8. Variation on a theme...
  9. A few to get started..
  10. That's really scary. I also take some comfort in my physical collection of shellac, vinyl, and aluminum. I only use iTunes to rip music I already own to my iPod.
  11. Just back from seeing the Bill Charlap trio. Kenny Washington is always impressive.
