http://www.newsobserver.com/2013/09/18/3207496/former-heavyweight-champion-norton.html "By TIM DAHLBERG — AP Boxing Writer LAS VEGAS — Former heavyweight champion Ken Norton, who beat Muhammad Ali and then lost a controversial decision to him in Yankee Stadium, died Wednesday at a local care facility, his son said. He was 70. Norton had been in poor health for the last several years after suffering a series of strokes, a friend of the fighter said. "He's been fighting the battle for two years," said Gene Kilroy, Ali's former business manager. "I'm sure he's in heaven now with all the great fighters. I'd like to hear that conversation."" Everyone would just die.”

dean meminger RIP http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/24/sports/basketball/dean-meminger-who-helped-knicks-to-a-title-dies-at-65.html?partner=rss&emc=rss&smid=tw-nytimes&_r=0 "Al McGuire, the former Knick who was Meminger’s coach at Marquette, once said he was “quicker than 11:15 Mass at a seaside resort.” Meminger, the Knicks’ first-round pick in the 1971 N.B.A. draft, joined a brilliant backcourt led by Walt Frazier, Dick Barnett and Earl Monroe. At 6 feet 1 and 175 pounds, he may have seemed overmatched, and he was often a backup. But he was a whirlwind dribbling upcourt, a superb defensive player and a clever ball handler with fine court sense. His most memorable moments came in Game 7 of the 1973 Eastern Conference "

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/24/sports/football/nfl-pressure-said-to-prompt-espn-to-quit-film-project.html?smid=tw-share&_r=1& "At the combative meeting, the people said, league officials conveyed their displeasure with the direction of the documentary, which is expected to describe a narrative that has been captured in various news reports over the past decade: the league turning a blind eye to evidence that players were sustaining brain trauma on the field that could lead to profound, long-term cognitive disability. Greg Aiello, a spokesman for the N.F.L., said Friday morning that the lunch meeting was requested by ESPN several weeks ago. “At no time did we formally or informally ask them to divorce themselves from the project,” Aiello said. “We know the movie was happening and the book was happening, and we respond to them as best we can. We deny that we pressured them.”"

At over 3 million records, it's the largest in the world. He's trying to sell it due to his advancing age and health problems. Unfortunately, as he puts it, "no one gives a damn.""

brilliant!!! i thoroughly enjoyed a leisurely nature walk alone yesterday with #7 performed by gennady rozdestvensky and the moscow state symphony. glorious. the same walk with #8 by the same composer, orchestra, and conductor was very ordinary.
-
Some who have studied Bruckner's symphonies claim that he did not write 9 symphonies, but rather wrote 1 symphony 9 times. I have no opinion either way. some could say that..........
