  1. a pleasure, enjoy. not much of a birthday present but something. many happy returns (oops here comes a moderator...)
  2. Thanks Headman. have you come across this site? http://www.vertigoswirl.com/index.html certainly done their research but I didn't investigate to see if there's an answer to your initial question
  3. I've only recently been starting to fill the huge gap in my knowledge that is John Stevens' discography. i've the two CDs you mention, Headman and I'm intrigued to know more about the Away discs. Now I know they're not on CD but how do they compare stylistically to the Nessa or Emanem (my only points of reference) or indeed to any other contemporary bands? sorry to widen the thread, not an attempt to hijack, honest!
  4. I couldn't agree more - everything he does strikes the right note with me. I'm looking forward to hearing the third Sao Paolo Underground just released on Cuneiform. Star licker also includes Adasiewicsz who's becoming a similar beacon of quality
  5. very nice. Would like to get my hands on a copy
  6. I like what I hear. So aside from the points made above (with which I agree) by Chicago-Expat, congrats on the music
  7. no great departure which means you get great writing, great solos and ensemble playing and the ever marvellous Julie T's vocals. Fans will definitely enjoy and newcomers could do worst than start here

    Steve Lehman?

seen Lehman Octet and Trio this year in London. Both very impressive in very different ways.
  10. both those materials pretty resistant to my attempts to make anything of them in both woodwork and metalwork classes, so I'm not sure that isn't a good name
  11. Gunter Hampel & Galaxie Dream Band - That came down on me, Live at Berlin Jazz Festival 1978 [birth Records] w. Whitecage, Robinson, Bues and Lee. Absolutely marvellous
  12. Lee and Hampel. Irresistible combination for me
  13. But where did the Treaty of Westphalia position in the charts? not very high. #1648 with a bullet and after 30 years of trying
  14. prompted by Leeway's Grachan Moncur (my understanding, probably incorrect, is that royalty payments weren't a great concern of original BYG let alone any dodgy reissues/licensing) he's so 'on it' on this. as are all the players. great session
  15. been too long since this fine LP hit the deck here -
  16. Fontana issue reinvestigating Chico H on the back of recent discussion in other thread. Liking everything I've heard so far
  17. The new double CD Charles LLoyd looks very intriguing - a live concert recording from Athens where the quartet are joined by some Greek musicians, perhaps most notably a vocalist, "Maria Farantouri, Greece's voice of resistance" http://www.amazon.co.uk/Athens-Concert-Charles-Lloyd/dp/B005CAAVK2/ref=ntt_mus_dp_dpt_1
  18. any label releasing Steve Coleman recordings is to be applauded in my book. Let alone Threadgill, Lehman etc it's a strong back catalogue, for sure
  19. I've been listening to my recently arrived vinyl Asha a few times now. I can certainly hear why it's proved a favourite for all those years, felser. a revelation, thanks for the tip
  20. also reissued as LP for the vinyl lovers http://www.souljazzrecords.co.uk/releases/?id=19377 just ordered mine. Thanks felser
  21. Except mine's the London Atlantic mono and next up, for contrast
  22. and back to Amy. Here's a specifically Jazz memory http://londonjazz.bl...photos-and.html apologies if posted already
  23. Exciting new Tippett release, From Granite to Wind. Studio recording from earlier this year. here's the Ogun blurb "Ogun is extremely proud to present a new jazz suite by the internationally acclaimed composer, arranger, improviser and pianist Keith Tippett. From Granite To Wind marks the debut of Tippett's new Octet, which features both old and new collaborators including Mujician's Paul Dunmall, and former Tommy Chase Band saxophonist Ben Waghorn. A continuous performance, "From Granite To Wind" is an evolving flux of different forms and colours, reinterpreting elements of the great jazz tradition through Tippett's idiosyncratic musical language." Anything new by KT is worth investigating in my book
  24. Claude Delcloo/Arthur Jones - Africanasia [bYG] Didn't know about that one, so thanks for posting. Enjoy many of their others. Off to hunt it down, now
  25. another jazzloft fan here. i failed to find the equivalent gatefold sleeves in UK/Europe so bit the bullet on their postage
