  1. Revolution #9 is interesting, but it's non-musicality makes the album less listenable as a whole, and it is ironic that John, who complained about Paul's penchant for non-rock "Granny music", still chose to foist this indulgence upon us. That said, It had shock value in it's day, and I dutifully listened to it numerous times on vinyl, mostly since it was harder to avoid than it is now in the digital era. I just listened to that half of the White Album and couldn't help thinking that I could otherwise be listening to much more worthwhile music than that track. I gave it a full listen for old times sake, but I will program around it in the future. Not worth 8 minutes of my future listening time.
  2. All due respect to Sir Paul, but at times his phrasing sounds a bit too informed by the "Granny music" he adored. As for John (and Yoko), I could really do without Revolution #9 on the White Album. Never really worked for me, and it's less impressive now that anyone can throw a sound collage together with software. Of course, it's not as bad as Yoko's caterwauling in the Rock and Roll Circus performance.

  4. Always heart-warming to re-read this.
  5. Newcastle Cabbie - At the usual 4.2% for Newcastle, you can probably still drive yourself home safely. Nice flavor, though.
  6. Brother Shall not Lift Sword against Brother Paperback – March 10, 2008 by Tsvi Misinai (Author) Well, I'm glad that's solved! A remarkable and challenging book - both in its contents and in its research methods. This historic-demographic document presents a revolutionary and daring idea: After two thousand years of exile, the two parts of the People of Israel meet in the Promised Land, the part that was expelled but kept its religion and identity and the part that remained in the country but its religion and identity were converted. The two parts-brothers become bitter enemies. This thrilling thesis is presented in the book by Tsvi Misinai, a result of years of historic-demographic research supported by DNA findings. The study describes in detail the historical events that resulted with the situation where the majority of the Palestinian population living today in the country consists of descendants of forced converts to Islam that really belong to the People of Israel. That many ways were tried to reach understanding between Jews and Palestinians. The approach suggested here, if and when adopted, will help stop the bloodshed between the blood brothers-enemies.
  7. Is there anything you wanted us to notice here in particular?
  8. Bizarre. Probably not the first chess-related homicide in history, but still a rarity, I would hazard.
  9. Sad to hear, I have enjoyed his music.
  10. If you are going to boil water separately and preheat your carafe, this is all you really need. RSVP 6066 Coffee Filter Cone No. 6 $10 online
  11. Windows 8 does boot much faster, but the interface is annoying. It dumbs down a desktop/laptop computer to the level of a smartphone. It's a "one size fits all" strategy from Microsoft to simplify things on their end, I guess. (and also to make computers less intimidating to a generation raised on smartphones.) 8.1 adds a start button to the desktop, so you can shutdown with two clicks/taps instead of at least three. You can also boot to the desktop screen. Windows 8.1 Review: Little Changes Make a Big Difference
  12. Get these instead: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Colour-Jets-Speakers-Complete-Auxiliary/dp/B00FFC2MUO/ref=pd_sim_ce_1/275-1223493-4035965 4 stars average from 33 customers. I have a set of these on one of my home PCs. They do sound great for the price and size. Bass response is excellent even with no subwoofer.
  13. I got that from your first post, but I'm not likely to ever bother with any extra steps in the morning. I'd need to have a cup of coffee first. A compromise might be to rinse the thermal carafe with hot tap water first.
  14. I like the Melitta: http://www.amazon.com/Melitta-46894-Coffeemaker-Standard-Packaging/dp/B005L3NIRS/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1389212289&sr=8-14&keywords=coffee+maker It features the thermal carafe you desire, with no warming plate that cooks the coffee. Also does not drip as easily as most, unless you really over-tilt the pour.

  20. It was at least a couple of weeks ago that I first noticed. They obviously want to encourage purchase bundling and higher sales volume.

  22. They did help prepare me for working for a British corporation. I expect absurd behavior from management, and often get it. We have quite a few upper class twits making business decisions.
  23. Goose Island Sixth Day - Many seem to quite like this, but it was almost a drain pour for me. The 8.3% ABV makes it work as a Winter Warmer, but it has a bitterness throughout that tastes medicinal. If my true love gave this to me, the romance would likely be off. Though there is a creamy brown ale underneath, so I might give her some credit for effort. Sierra Nevada Celebration Fresh Hop Ale 2013 - This is a much more successful execution of a hoppy Winter ale style. It has the characteristic SN hop profile, but balanced with sweet roasted malt.
