  1. That tongue do okay getting at the grit in the vinyl grooves? Hello VPI.....
  2. are all available on Analogue Productions SACDs and to my ears, they sound incredible. I think you'll agree. They'd probably be cheaper in the end. Kevin <<<<Weizen, if you truly are....>>>> I truly did... Took the plunge and went for that Pioneer unit you recommended. Also went for these --and a couple other -- Evans SACDs on sale over at Tower.
  3. Me too. I hope the bear returns and scarfs down AJ for supper.
  4. That final scene with the goobers charging out of the woods, advancing through the snow w/rifles in hand was really lame. Simpler to just walk around the corner of the house and say 'Hello, Sunshine!'
  5. It's pretty good...well recorded....got a little gospel, little jump blues and a little of this & that. It's a Basie affair with Benny Powell, Charlie Fowlkes (misspelled on the LP), Joe Newman, Frank Wess..also Ronnel Bright, Johnnie Pate and Heard's brother Dave playing drums on a couple of tracks where JC sings or plays congas. Ronnell Bright is great on 'Heard the Word' ....and JC lets 'er rip for close to 3 minutes. 'Blues for Sale' is real nice. The one I don't care much for is 'Cuban Chant,' an Afro-Cuban number where Heard plays bongos --- seriously reminds me of Ricky Ricardo in action over at the Club.
  6. Columbia COCB 53485(Interface)New Wallington,George/Is Back* 2300 ..... 'Jazz at Hotchkiss' perhaps?
  7. Then head on over to the Hotel Kitano at Park & 38th.
  8. Thanks Chaney! At this point, it's either going to be the Capresso or a Bosch unit.
  9. And the Capresso MT500 it is! Aint she a beaut! Makes splendid coffee. Thanks Tom and everyone for the input. You're all invited to my place for you-know-what. Soooooo, Mr. Chaney.........two years later, what's the report on this? Still humming along nicely? Mine bit the dust this a.m.
  10. Good point, definitely something to think about......although, FWIW, the SACDs seem to run $19-25 and the new Evans K2's will run $21 before shipping. Probably works out about the same. BTW, there's another Evans title ('Montreux') due out in Japan in December that's packaged in a 12x12 replica LP cover? I don't think I've ever seen a cd packaged that way....have you? Seems a bit awkward. Not sure I want to start filing away cds on the shelf with my lps.
  11. True. To play it safe, I'd order it from Amazon Japan (VICJ-61291) for $156. When you factor in the shipping, you (ispace) will still save close to $90. In my case, since I rarely mess around with these large boxes, and don't have any recent upgrades, I'll probably ditch the older box and try to pick up a good chunk of the material as 24-bit reissues due out in Dec. 12. Target has been selling those for $20 (ours is the Ms. Pac-Man though). Easy as pie to use.
  13. I saw Clinton's first post and immediately placed it in the queue. I've picked up a handful of these (Pepper, Guaraldi, etc) but this is one I'd like to a/b up against the 'Relaxin' XRCD. Now to drop hints that a reasonably priced SACD player would make a swell B'day gift.
  14. Yeah, the clip where the guy rolls up the shade in the a.m. and that guy is standing a few feet from the window staring at him is creepy.
  15. Kevin or Claude -- if one is interested in taking the SACD plunge, is the Pioneer Elite DV-45A still considered a solid 'good bang for the buck' unit, or is there a better way to go?
  16. You've been busy spreading the word. Over at YourMusic.Com they've stocked the jazz shelves with loads of his 'Best of' cds.
  17. Hey Chris, your B'Day gift is in the mail! Found a used LP that you're gonna love!
