  1. Now we're talking!!! All 5 due out this week! Not the mini-lps I was hoping for.... but something's better than nothing! http://www.hmv.co.jp/search/index.asp?artist=Chet+Baker
  2. Coleman Hawkins 'Wrapped Tight' (Impulse). I heard this title for the first time yesterday in an audiophile shop where my table was getting fitted with a new cartridge. Sounded unbelieveable on an amazing system (think it was a Mark Levinson amp paired w/some $39 K pair of Linn speakers). I went out to a local vinyl shop today and found a clean copy for $10.....doesn't sound quite as amazing as it did on the 39k Linns...but it's definitely a crowd pleaser! Anyone ever noticed the back of the cover? Both the gatefold copy I picked up today as well as the UK Impulse/Jasmine edition yesterday list Barry Harris as the bass player.
  3. He sure does......those 3 new Stones mini-lp boxes are headed my way!!! In the past I've passed Hiroshi certain catalogue numbers w/the link to a certain shop I've zeroed in on and he'll try to run down the lead. He just scored a way OOP mini-lp for me that I'd tracked down. It's a hit or miss thing. I never ask him to do the 'hunting' though. The reason I don't always knock at his door is that I don't always want to use PayPal and prefer rather to put it on plastic.
  4. Man, that's a lot of pasta! Way to go, Moose!
  5. Like most folks, I prefer using Mr. Tanno....but there are occasions where I'll use Amazon Japan or HMV. HMV is definitely the best because you can periodically check in on the status of your order. It's very straight forward and you can clearly see what is still on order versus what's sitting at the ready. If you get tired of waiting for those last few discs, you just put the zap on them and HMV'll soon be shipping the remainder. Amazon Japan is just a mess. You order 12 things from them and then wait and wait and wait. No updates, no way to tell what they actually have in hand or how far along they are in the acquisition process. They could easily have rounded up 10 of the 12 items on your list two days after you submitted the order but you'll never know it. Six weeks later you don't know if they're but one disc away from shipping --- or eleven? At some point you just say 'screw it' and go cancel everything. CANCEL!!! Ahhhh, that felt good! Damn! What have I done?
  6. Scroll down to Deja Vu and have a look. What's that all about? Who here is a registered member so that we can hear their take on things?
  7. What, no Jimmy Smith?? Phew! I'm definitely in for the Mobley, Hubbard, Morgan (City Lights) & Silver!!!!!!
  8. Reduction on the Woods, Getz, Chestnut. Added in Byard, Mobley/Walton, Harper, Candoli/Morgan.

  11. Well you did recommend it ("So I would recommend this SACD only if it sounds better than the cheap OJC CD, which I have not heard") -- the OJC bites root.
  12. Okay....so how low?????? Just kidding, I have it... .....could use Soultrane though.
  13. They were putting sale price cards on the 'Prelude' set at the local Tower yesterday, so it might be worth a quick drop by for those that don't yet have this.
  14. Yes, for sure! Several nights ago, my wife -- who really enjoys the small club atmosphere* suddenly piped up during 'Waltz for Debby' and said it had that 'you're there' feel to it. * Gonna be trio heaven for us in a few weeks time with the Kenny Barron, Harold Mabern & Cedar Walton Trios on three consecutive nights. To Vibes list I'd add Wynton Kelly Trio & Aerosmith 'Toys in the Attic'. Can anyone either recommend (or trash) the Bobby Timmons SACD?
  15. Yeah, $179 per disc is up there.......and how about these recent Dave Bailey mini-lp sales? Don't think I've ever seen jazz mini-lps hit such highs. http://cgi.ebay.com/Dave-Bailey-REACHING-O...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/JAZZ-japan-mini-lp-CD-...1QQcmdZViewItem
  16. Checked out the Lawrence Hobgood Trio at the Kennedy Center last night. I'd never heard him outside of the Kurt Elling orbit... Guess he's a big Robert Preston fan..... performed an entertaining rendition of 'Crazy World' from Victor/Victoria.

  18. I would have liked to have made a move on this Bill Evans set today....but after consulting the shipping chart, it would have been an act of 'eBay madness' on my part. What? some $70+?
  19. The DVD/movie threads. Not a movie buff and don't follow the media 'buzz'.....but I've picked up some good suggestions in there.
