  1. About once a month, I'll saute a pot of sliced bell peppers which are packed with Vitamins A and C....more so than an orange from what I've been told. To do it right, you really need to cook them down for about 3-4 hours (stirring every 20 minutes or so) on low heat so that they just start to turn a nice golden color and are super sweet. Some of the vitamins will leach out into the olive oil so you need to save all of that. I make a sort of burrito and roll up in a sun-dried tomato wrap some refried beans, chunks of chicken, 4 or 5 cherry tomatoes, some loose spinach leaves, 2 or 3 tablespoons of the cooked peppers, a tablespoon or two of grated parmesan or romano......then nuke it for 2 minutes and top the finished product with some mashed avocado and some chili lime hot sauce. The before & after shots from yesterday with 12 red, yellow & orange bells. Last night we put a few spoonfuls on mashed potatoes......'twas perfect!
  2. Thanks Lon, will check that one! Coincidentally, switched on the tube last night & they were airing a spectacular Italy program as part of a fundraiser. I'm guessing it was a Blu-Ray DVD as well?
  3. ...anything other than some Rick Steve 'stuff' been released on Blu-Ray (ie...Maghreb, Russia, France, Portugal, Spain, Bayonne, NJ ) ?
  4. This is the first good news I have read or heard today. Me too! I'm happier than a Chilean map maker who now gets to rework (then resell) all of his maps due to the 8.8 quake shifting the entire city of Concepción a whopping 10 feet to the west!!
  5. Gotta love that outfit! Why do I want to pay Amazon $16 for a new copy of the Sonny Clark Quartets when I can get a used one from MM for $53?
  6. Nice price ($1.99) on that 2cd Monk/Trane Complete 1957 Riverside Recordings.
  7. My 'ol beat-up copy from '54. Some fine short stories by O. Henry, Joe Alsop, Ring Lardener, Irvin Cobb, C.S. Forester, Faulkner, Joe Hergesheimer (anyone here ever read Hergesheimer's 'Java Head'?). Includes various cover reprints spanning the decades. The March 6,1948 one by Rockwell ('Gossip') is a hoot. A great collection that you can get for a song over at Amazon. 1 cent!
  8. Yes, Lutefisk....and washed down with Aquavit, the worst booze I've ever had. Proud of the 'ol Norwegian roots but a guy's got his limits and I had to pour close to a full bottle down the drain! Blech! Never heard of this stuff before you mentioned it! Horrors!
  9. Tomato & beer? ...Oregano? There outta be a law. I'm calling Congressman Moran's office in the a.m. I hope they don't go crazy like this in Old Europe! They wouldn't....they just couldn't... http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/redeye/2010/03/beer-me-the-strangest-beer-flavors-in-the-world.html
  10. Hey, congrats! I was just over there Tue morning checking out the Chester Dale exhibit. Should have stopped by and helped you pick out the ring!!
  11. It's about detail......like if ya watch 'Planet Earth' on Blu-Ray, the patchwork of sensory bumps covering the head of that 2-foot-long, water-dwelling, Japanese giant salamander are more clearly defined than what you can detect on that 'ol B&W RCA set you've been watching 'Rat Patrol' re-runs on down in the basement.
  12. Serious about receiving his 1st message and just kidding about the follow-up message -- alas it's true that my beloved JRVGs do indeed suck eggs in their book!
  13. Yeah, that landed in my in-box as well. When I pressed him for further info, he admitted that the shootout had been held 45 minutes after they'd returned from a Chinese New Years parade just down the block! 30,000 firecrackers'll mess things up a bit. The event was then restaged and his next e-mail had the JRVG winning! You didn't see that one?
  14. Yes, 'The Rajah' -- as Lon mentioned -- is another from the 1600 series that used McMaster.....as did the TOCJ-66XXX ones like 'Street Singer' and 'Redd's Blues'. That said, I'm still a longtime JRVG fan -- love the sound on my system (MA6900, MCD301, Dynaudio Countour S3.4). Heck, am I the only one left here who listens to 'em? So lonely.
  15. I agree. Like 'em so much that I went and bought both JPN Toshiba vinyl editions as well ('Surging Ahead' PJ-0067 in fabulous Mono) from MC's wife on eBay. Great sounding, they are! So she was selling his vinyl behind his back or what? I guess they needed a new Espresso machine? ....that's $11k ya know!! http://www.singleserveespresso.com/archives/2008/02/starbucks_testing_the_clover.php

  17. Hey, it's the beginning of March.....aren't we about due for one of those? I'll have Conrad start a new thread and let's see if we can whip things up a bit!!
  18. The only way that might happen is if Bertrand finds out that you've unearthed some unreleased Morgan or Shorter material in the Library of Congress and boarded the bus with it stashed in your Dokumententasche! Jever's a fine start -- definitely entitles you to as many mulligans on the front nine as I saw Clinton take when he was there! 6 anyway!
  19. I don't recall seeing Jesper Parnevik ever wear a white shirt? You sure you aren't thinking about Polo? ...and it's not elitist -- even though you're Swiss and enjoy the sound of inferior sounding product produced by Spanish labels --as opposed to Japanese -- I'd still allow you access to my Club. Well, depends what make of car you're currently driving. One of those late model Citroëns with a duck sticker on the back....and you can forget about it!
  20. Well, other than spending time trying to figure out the best way to get oop Mosaic sets to you so that you can sleep comfortably at night, what else is there to ponder?
  21. Is this now official? I thought that diligent researchers failed to find proof of service? October—“Twilight Zone” debuts on TV. Pan American becomes first airline to offer regular flights around the world. Errol Flynn dies of heart attack at age 50. Dr. Werner von Braun begins to work for NASA. November—Charles van Doren admits to House subcommittee that he knew answers in advance on quiz show “Twenty One.” Ford discontinues Edsel. Chubby Checker introduces the Twist on “The Dick Clark Saturday Night Show.” December—Walter Williams, last surviving veteran of the Civil War, dies at the age of 117. First color photograph of Earth received from outer space.
  22. Nice hip check that the Swiss player laid on the Ryan in the 2nd period. Don't see many good ones like that anymore.
  23. I was eying the Helen Merrill/Katz one today but was struck by the number of comments re: the substandard sound. If it's the odd comment or two, it's easy to dismiss it...but there seem to be a fair number here. So, what's the story? ...and who did the re-mastering anyway? http://www.mosaicrecords.com/prodinfo.asp?number=1019
  24. Well, I dunno. I heard that you can..ahem.. wear yours.
