  1. Maybe a stray bolt or two for these people at the AAP who should just speed straight on through the 'cultural sensitivity tollbooth' but feel compelled to slow down and at least offer up 25% of the regular fare. Spineless saps. May 17, 2010 American Academy of Pediatrics ‘Compromises’ on Female Circumcision Paul Williams, PhD Realizing that the Islamic population in the U.S. has soared to 10 million, the American Academy of Pediatrics wants American doctors to receive legal permission to perform a ceremonial pinprick or “nick” on the genitalia of Muslim baby girls. The academy’s committee on bioethics says culturally sensitive pediatricians have suggested that current federal law, which “makes criminal any non-medical procedure performed on the genitals” of a girl in the United States, may produce the unintended consequence of driving some families to take their daughters to other countries to undergo circumcision. “It might be more effective if federal and state laws enabled pediatricians to reach out to families by offering a ritual nick as a possible compromise to avoid greater harm,” the group said. Opponents of female genital mutilation, or F.G.M., have decried the Academy’s stance. http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/id.6236/pub_detail.asp
  2. Is it true that all the testing is being done in S. Africa except for one test model that'll be pulled over Bernie Madoff's head (upper) until he talks and tells 'em where that missing $9 billion is?
  3. TD, I responded to your message. Go ahead and post it here.
  4. No. Best thing now would be for you and a few others to tone it down. If you're yanked off about the WC, go watch the US Open and root for Dustin Johnson. Posts full of personal attacks are going to be thrown from the train like Julius Harris in 'Live & Let Die'
  5. Last night, a friend of mine who owns a food cafeteria/buffet located on the ground floor of a DC office building, was telling me that he signed on with the company to sell their coffee, etc. They furnished the machines, cups and all the stuff that goes with it...only to suddenly pull the plug a full 2 months down the road when they suddenly discovered that the place actually has a 2nd entrance. The first (and major) point of access is the corridor that snakes around the inside of the building. There's a street level entrance as well (we're not talking a major thoroughfare -- a Pennsylvania Ave or anything --just a sleepy 'lil side street). It was this street level entrance that was the dealbreaker. He doesn't understand why they freaked out about that......quite frankly, neither do I?
  6. Ahhh, excellent! By sheer dumb luck looks like we'll get to see him pitch.
  7. Going to the Nats-Royals game Wed. afternoon and am wondering if Strasburg will pitch? When you have the 5 day rotation, is that literally 5 days? ....or does that mean every 5th game? He pitched last night in Chicago....so will he throw again on Wed?
  8. Taken yesterday before the start of the 'Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival' at National Harbor (Potomac River). When it's close to hitting 90, the Maryland way to keep 23 cases cool is to stack 'em in the sun and .....
  9. Should the bricklayer be fired for shoddy work?
  10. I wonder if it will end up over at the History Channel?
  11. I think the announcers should try to keep their lip(s) buttoned. Coincidentally, I was rearranging the contents of my 'junk' drawer a few days ago and found this. Probably the only one I'll ever see. How many have there been since the 1950's? A hundred or so? I'm sure someone else here has seen one?
  12. I agree, that loud, monotonous vuvuzela sound is really very annoying Seriously. I flipped on the Ger-Aus match when it was 2:0 in order to tape for tonite and was wondering what that weird noise was. Thought there was some engineering glitch up in the announcer's booth......then spied this AP headline. Vuvuzela drone killing World Cup atmosphere
  13. Same here....the key word being "much." 'Capuchin Swing' is next in line. ......also, Jimmy Forrest and Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis get on my nerves.
  14. If perchance he drops by this place and attempts to sell multiple copies of the cd-rs, we'll make sure not to delete the thread.
  15. I was hoping it might end with a deflection off the skate of Pronger & into his own net.
  16. Oddly enough, I don't have any Jamal and am looking forward to this set. I see that some tracks were recorded at the Spotlite Club in DC.
  17. I should probably pick up the Chet Baker Sextet. Never heard that one.
  18. Yes, that's correct.......but we try to keep it a nice low key, comfy, friendly vibe sorta place.
  19. Apart from exercising poor judgement by splashing private message traffic up on the board, I have to say that when I saw the post in question this a.m. I thought it was dim-witted. The guy has lots of rare Jpn import titles and you're lamenting the fact that he hasn't set the opening bids at 1/4 of what he has 'em pegged at? So, all those $19.99 jobbers of his should have had an opening bid of $4.99 to make you happy? What world are you living in where $19.99 is considered a high price for many of these hard-to-find jpn imports?
  20. We have high winds and a Tornado Warning in effect.....but I can hear the aircraft lifting off from Reagan National 2 miles away.
