  1. I took a few quarter-size paint chips into a Duron paint store and asked the sole clerk on duty if it was latex or oil. He didn't know and said it would be hard to tell. Yeah right, and I suppose a petro-chemical worker couldn't tell the difference between home heating oil and 95 octane Sunoco? In this day & analytical age where they can give us the full rundown of the contents of the Tyrolean Iceman's stomach and intestinal tract, or analyze the bejesus out of martian soil, how is it possible that a clerk in a top name paint co. shop can't answer that simple question? I then asked him about some of the DURACLAD metal/paint products they were selling because I needed to repaint an ancient tin roof. I told him I didn't know if it was galvanized or non-galvanized and asked him how one could tell the difference. Again..DUH! Hey, when you're peddling specialty products in a specialty paint shop you'd better know something!!! The fact that we've never been serious (like the europeans) about apprenticeships in this country is a colossal @!%# outrage of the first order.
  2. Yes, I've been on the prowl for this one.........thanks for posting it.
  3. Yes, I was talking NW................forget about SE.
  4. I like those Daily Lunch Specials......some 'real' chow -- no sushi, Volaille Consommé or 16-grain loaves of bread in there!!
  5. I don't quite understand this. If a person peruses the bins and decides to purchase something, he/she then walks out of the music dept. with the item and proceeds to make their way toward the battery of cash registers often located in another part of the store (at least down this way, I think??). Since the music dept. staff clearly can't stroll arm-in-arm the 100 feet or so to the cash register with every person who exits the music dept. with a Freddie Fender cd, what exactly would the overlords expect the music dept. staff to do? Ditto for Borders where the cash registers (at the Pentagon City store) and music dept are located at opposite ends of the store -- about 150-200 feet as the crow flies (over the maze of book shelves).
  6. At the time it was Yoko's 'Fly' LP......I still have it though....took 25+ years to appreciate a couple of the tracks.....can't squeeze blood from a turnip though.
  7. I picked up my copy at Amazon Japan...and they still have 'em in stock for about $17. When you factor in all the shipping & handling fees, you're looking at about $25 -- much better than going the CD Universe route. It's a short disc (26 min.).....but worth that amount imo. http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...3465451-0871414
  8. .....I am apparently still a kid . Not just any old "kid'........but rather a super fab wicked excellent A+ kinda kid with a knack for hunting down elusive Mosaic vinyl sets!
  9. Autograph collecting and the consumption of milk are for kids....which is why I have a few sigs from the '68 Boston Bruins and another of O.J. when he was with SF. While I did request a signature from a well known jazz author B) ....that was for the benefit of children who're forever saying 'who are you talking to on that stupid computer jazz board? ...are they real people? ...why are you talking to them about Dick Cheney when you could be taking us out for ice cream?' Good point......would you like chocolate chip or strawberry?
  10. That area is fine. Jefferson Hotel is a couple of blocks away....Henley Park Hotel is over near 10th & Mass and they have decent Sat. night jazz in the lounge. National Geographic Society bldg. is a couple of blocks away (hit that a few weeks ago and saw the 'Mars' exhibit). Quick cab to the Hill.....not that far from Dupont Circle......Chinatown & the MCI Center might be......I dunno..8 or 9 blocks? Cafe Mozart and the weizen biers are down near 14th & H. I don't ride the Metro much anymore but my guess is that you'd be near the McPherson station. At that price..for a couple of months, I'd take it over Silver Spring in a heartbeat.
  11. Can't say I blame the average japanese consumer for rejecting a product that has the visual appeal of some double-murder crime scene photo.
  12. True, but if they're solely interested in making sales, I don't understand why they wouldn't re-release things like the 'Rare Tracks - Other Side of BN 400 Series' (TOCJ-5941-44) which -- unlike the others -- isn't available in various formats.......is always in short supply...and always commands a decent price? That's just one example.
  13. btw, nice to see that you're back again.
  14. Not that RVG...the other engineer from Kyoto - Ryunosuke ヴァンGelder.
  15. You're a lucky man! I've got two girls ages 7 & 9...life is good!!! Don't forget to swipe a bunch of those 'mini' 3 or 4 oz feeding bottles from the hospital.....perfect for those little fingers to keep a grip on when you're out 'n about (driving around, etc...).
  16. So now we'll have jewel box JRVGS? .....gotta love their ability to milk these titles! Maybe after they pawn off this lot they'll start thinking about that second unreleased session of 'Back From The Gig' or give Turrentine's 'Z.T.s Blues' a japanese run.
  17. Why do I have this mental image of Chris sitting on the sofa, G&T in hand, giggling away in the dark with a hand firmly clasped over his mouth to muffle the laughter?
  18. Yep, I even remember where it came from......the Lechmere up in Danvers, Mass.
  19. Yeah, I got a different Nigerian scam letter the other day...they certainly are #1 when it comes to running scams. My question is this: the site you posted is a German one....soooooooo, are the Nigerians sending similar scam e-mails out in French, German, Polish, Greek, Serbo-Croatian, whatever? ......or are we talking english language operations only? Maybe you could pick up a little extra pocket money for SACDs Claude and offer to translate their stuff into French?
  20. Only once did I completely lose it and drop 4x that for a mint Freddie Hubbard W. 63rd Open Sesame LP.
  21. So Boris Yeltsin hands 'em a fake Id and they don't even recognize him? What stupid cops.
  22. Starting to warm up.......time to break out 'Hank' & the cold weizens.
  23. Since this thread is about strange incidents involving wheeled objects....on Sat. I was doing about 80 in the passing lane out on #66 in VA when I came up on a group of 4 bikes bunched together in the middle lane. The wife looked over at them and one of 'em motioned that he had something to show us.....he then comes right up alongside the passenger side and hands her a brochure for some weekend D.C. Bike Expo. One small error on his part and he'd likely wind up under my tires. Nuts.
  24. The MF A300 integrated I just picked up has binding posts for one pair of speakers. Since I might want to periodically switch over to a pair of outdoor speakers, looks like a speaker selector is the only way to go. There seem to be alot of these things out there and I don't need one that'll run 4 pair of speakers...just the two. Anybody use one of these? Any particular models I might want to steer clear of? What's reasonable $$ to plunk down for something like this? Thanks.
  25. So based on what they'd seen go down, the witnesses didn't rise from their seats and walk up to the driver and tell him he might wanna stop the bus?
