  1. No doubt a herculean liscencing effort would be required...but someone should bundle up all of the Joe Gordon material into a nice little package -- pluck the tracks from 'West Coast Days'....bring in several tracks on the 'Blakey Featuring Art Blakey' disc that didn't make it to the 'Introducing Joe Gordon' re-issue and then add in some freshly re-mastered 'Manne @ The Blackhawk' stuff, etc..
  2. between the following titles, which would it be? 1. When Lights Are Low. 2. The Five. 3. Jolly Jumps In. 4. Duo-Trio-Quartet.
  3. That Wade Legge you can online through Amazon Japan. As for the Candolis.....seems to me that this seller dropped a pair of the Toshiba vinyl several times over on eBay a year or so back -- something like $25 a pop. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ssPageName=WDVW Perhaps you could send him a note of inquiry? ...or phone him?
  4. Anyone ever heard the Alex Kallao Trio 'Evening at the Ember's' recording from '54 w/Milt Hinton? It's out as an RCA mono...
  5. Yes they are....here's a couple of 'em. Did anyone drop a note to Mosaic? I'd do it but I don't really have much of a relationship with any of 'em. Any volunteers? ...maybe a job for 'ol Tod?
  6. Geez, if the opening bid were just a dollar or so lower I might go for it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...4019351480&rd=1
  7. Yeah really...that $71 list price for the Wynton Kelly 'Whisper Not' XRCD seems reasonably whacked out.
  8. I was checking out a bunch of his old Mercury titles over the weekend....and this is some nice upbeat stuff...particularly his first one w/Herman Wright & Terry Pollard ('Dickie's Dream' is nice!) which seems to be the only one currently available. Sure, the Pete Jolly swinging accordian biz on 'Plays the Duke' takes a little getting used to.....but it grows on you. The live "Explosion" date w/Kamuca and Candoli is great and ...as is 'Allens All-Stars' w/Red Mitchell, Al Viola and Gus Bivona playing clarinet. These EmArcy LPs contain alot of fun lovin' material and there are a boatload of thede Merc/EmArcy titles (7 or 8?) out there.
  9. I would have posted earlier, but my system has been on the fritz, and in the shop since last Monday Damn XP.... Brownie, you were right about not letting this one get away. I went back and snagged it, and am very pleased with it. So thanks to you and others for the recommendation. I also wound up picking up a copy of the Dorothy Donegan Trio on Fresh Sounds that isn't too bad. While I was there a guy standing next to me in the store said that he was a friend of Roswell Rudd, and handed me a copy of the Archie Shepp & Roswell Rudd Live in New York on Verve, and told me he was actually there when it was recorded. It is surprisingly good as well. And that is coming from someone who is stuck in the fifties-sixties jazz time warp. Off again to chew out Microsoft/MSN/Comcast whoever (someday they will figure out).
  10. Saw a Barney Wilen Quartet '59 (Fresh Sounds) sitting in a NY shop yesterday. Not familiar with this one but it looks like a live recording, part of which was recorded in Newport...and part in Germany with Wilen & a Freiberg rythm section. Is the recording quality any good? ....worth doubling back to pick up?
  11. At the Princeton Record Exchange (NJ) ---- Joe Wilder 'Softly With Feeling" (Savoy), Quincy Jones "This Is How I Feel About Jazz" (Impulse)...& "Ernie Wilkins-Kenny Clark Septet" (Savoy).
  12. I was breaking the kids in on 'The Beatles' last weekend and spinning some greatest hits ('Beatles 1') cd. These two lp cover photos in the booklet sorta jumped off the page.....that was quite the transformation in six short years from 3/63-3/69. *Seems odd to me that Capitol Recs wouldn't somehow have access to an original cover (or photo even?) in better condition than this one that some kid ripped a sticker off & mangled. This cover isn't that 'rare' is it?
  13. When you have to review grant applications submitted by frightfully confused organizations who're attempting to navigate minefields...er, guidelines crafted by govt. bureaucrats who'd die rather than communicate in something other than sliderulenerdspeak, frequent distractions are a must!
  14. So you'll be in Beijing in '08? I'll be there.....will you be bringing the cigars and Armagnac?
  15. The only person in my neighborhood driving one of those things (a metallic orange one to boot!) is a woman....and she's moving to L.A. in 3 weeks. Maybe move right in next door to the Mule? Now stop venting your spleen at these hapless people and put your talents to good use by skewering those who truly deserve it over on the political threads!!
  16. When I played this clip using Real Player, its system couldn't locate poor Mr Körössy in its data base and thus came up with the next best thing. Album Information A1 Genre: Gangsta Rap Released: 25 Jun 2002
  17. Well, ejazzlines delivered today on a couple of TOCJs (Mustang & JuJu).....so thumbs up for them!
  18. Here ya go little buddy....17 years without a Weizen is no way to live!! B)
