Next time you visit the doctor....

I phoned your North Shore doc this afternoon and asked him to road test this baby on you next time you're in. Fukuoku Five Finger Massage Glove The famous fukuoku finger vibe now comes in a five finger glove that is waterproof! Low speed gives gentle stimulation- while high speed delivers approximately 45-000 vibrations per minute! Each finger vibrates to allow your whole hand to massage in synchronicity. Allows for versatility of touch because of the flexibility and variety of positions through which a hand can move. -
It's due out on 9/29 (and available for pre-order at Amazon Jpn)...don't know about the metal spine biz.

Stashed away in some boxes are a couple of thousand color slides that I shot in Russia, China, Mongolia, Hong Kong (Bottoms Up Club anyone? ) Thailand, East Germany, Poland, etc..in the early/mid 80's and would very much like to transfer them to cd. Mostly 200 Ektrachrome...some Fuji & Agfa with an OLYMPUS OM-1. Anyone have any experience using any of the 35 mm film scanners that have appeared on the market? ...Canon, Minolta, Kodak, etc... ? Any kinks? Good time to take the plunge or better to wait a few more years?

Just returned from the standard 'ol med. check-up and thought I'd share this. When the nurse went to put on the cuff to measure blood pressure I jokingly remined her about what happened last year when she put on the 'medium' rather than 'large 'cuff. She had a vague recollection of this and quickly switched 'em and put on the correct ('large') one. Blood pressure reading with the large cuff: 117/78. I then asked her to slap the 'medium' cuff back on for kicks and see if there'd be a difference. Yep...130/90. Exact same thing happened a year ago when they incorrectly came up with a 140/90 read before realizing they'd made a mistake. I wonder how many people are walking around thinking they have elevated blood pressure....but really don't?

Is the 'Getz meets Chet Baker' Verve cd one that folks would put in the 'essential' category? I'm not familiar with this one. Also, the Getz/Baker personality conflict that was mentioned on AMG......was it really an all out feud, or more of a 'don't crowd me' sort of thing?

Thanks Charles.

Looks like they're getting about $160 for the new Miles 'Seven Steps' box in Japan. Anyone have an idea when it will show up over here....haven't seen it listed as a pre-order? Mosaic's bound to put out a vinyl set as well. 9 Lps sound about right?

Finally found a copy of 'The Rajah' TOCJ and the Pepper 'Complete Surf Ride Plus'.

Sony SICP 620-6(New) Davis,Miles/Seven Steps:The Complete Miles Davis 1963-1964(7CDs) First time I'll have sampled much of the material (7 Steps...Funny Valentine.. In Berlin, etc)...so that should be exciting. -
Take good care of that hard-to-find LP....but don't worry a bit about the burn of it that you'll be shipping here. Plain old ordinary manila envelope will do fine.

What non-mosaic box set is tops on your list.
Son-of-a-Weizen replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I'm with you on this one. Play disc 10 a good bit for all the 'Flossie Lou' alts..... think I like the 3rd one best. -

No amount of Mosaic acquisition will ever be able to erase the fact that you've brought friends & family alike such disgrace by jettisoning 'Machine Head' B-)

What vinyl are you spinning right now??

Been spinning some Kenny Clarke & Lennie McBrowne LPs that arrived today. Ordinarily I'm happy to make due with cd-rs of vinyl...but in this case, I decided that upgrading to the real thing would be a good thing. The two cd-rs of these ones have gotten alot of play 'round here over the years. -
Do you buy music faster than you listen to it?

Were I to divulge the truth here, there's a chance that I'd be locked-up sporting a clean white jacket w/extra long arms. -
Nor am I ...but leaving 80's Liberty BNs with massive dish warps aside, I can't begin to imagine the number of valuable one, perhaps two of a kind historical items are out there in warped..but otherwise decent condition --- maybe it's a bit of political memorabilia (I'm just goofing here) like a 'Trotsky Sings Showtunes' or some Opera recording.. Exceptionally rare items surface from time to time and find their way to the Library of Congress, Library & Archives Canada, Vienna Phonogramm-Archiv, etc...I'd be simply amazed if preservationists hadn't figured a way 'round all this.
-
Has anyone actually produced a machine that will fix warps? I'm not talking about something that would be available to Joe consumer...but to archives, etc. There's alot of super rare vinyl out there and there must be someplace for collectors and others to turn? Seems like it would be a pretty low tech deal to crank out --- perhaps use copper plates backed with felt or something else that wouldn't adhere to the vinyl...and then make sure that a current was equally distributed throughout. Would take some testing and a bunch of trashed Bay City Rollers LPs to get it right...but sooner of later you'd have to assume that a committed 'tinkerer' could get it right.

No, it makes her shrill & annoying.

Brownie, I agree with you about Powell on the English LP.....'Heavy Soul' is a sweet one indeed. I also like that little bass solo of Martin Revere's on the first track. They say that he played w/J. Watkins and Rouse.....but poor Martin doesn't seem to rank even a footnote over at AMG. They list a Martin Rivera though. Lon, I snapped a quick photo of the re-issue copy...guess they dropped the 'Introducing' bit on these ones. This and the Burns aren't exactly BN eye catching covers...but I like the b/w & a dab of color simplicity of these ones. The 'Warming Up' title is in red.
