  1. That ugly lookin' thing sure ain't human. Maybe Munch painted a portrait of one of 'em back then and the family has come back to retrieve it? There's something weird going on over there. Norwegian Woman Watches UFO Land On Her Lawn - Then Take Off ...... the northern city of Bodø. There, a woman went out of her house to smoke a cigarette. Suddenly, she says, a flying object landed on her lawn, stood there awhile, and then lifted off and flew away. Norwegian police search for 'silent helicopter' UFO Police in Norway are searching for a UFO described by witnesses as being like a silent helicopter. Three witnesses believe the craft was going to crash into the sea when they called the authorities.
  2. Any list without a Tubes lp on it is an Abomination to God!!
  3. Yes, so I see (just checked AMG)!! Seems a real shame that Toshiba didn't hold off a little longer on releasing the JRVG (TOCJ-9222) and include it instead in the 9300+ run that offered extra cuts. Oh well. So basically then, the Kelly completist must have that 12" vinyl...or perish, oui?
  4. Listening to this Kelly 'New Faces-- New Sounds' 10" number that I picked up from some music shop before it went out of business. Not a Japanese copy but one of the liberty era releases. Sounds okay...but there's no shortage of piano distortion in the upper registers. Anyone else heard one of these? This is one of those cases where the vinyl is no match for the JRVG where the distortion has been significantly cleaned up...particularly on "Cherokee" and "Good-Bye". Then again, the JRVG has it's own problems with a bit more audible background tape noise on some cuts like "Crazy He Calls Me'.
  5. On Washington Street? Combat Street area? On the left hand side of the street if you were headed in the direction of Govt. Center? Right off the street....not one of the shops with some big 'ol stairwell to hike up? If that's the place, I can remember this angry looking bull of a guy at the door who stepped right in to block my way in & said 'No Snows Allowed'. Pretty sure it was late '73...and I'm like 14....and didn't know what the hell he meant by that. I looked at him......he looked at me...I looked at him...he looked at me.....I figured it out in about 7 seconds. Never even got one foot in the place. Geez, least you coulda done was tell him to back off and have me come on in for a Pepsi. Must have been a different shop.
  6. That's interesting...."Here to Stay" is the one I typically reach for.....something about 'Nostrand & Fulton' & Walton's piano really hits the mark. That album and Morgan's 'Rajah' are floating around somewhere near the top of my RVG want list.
  7. Now Jazzshrink, you should not assume that I was talking about good 'ol Barney Frank, as the story about convicted felon Steve Gobi (who was living with Frank at the time) running the male prostitution ring out of Frank's apt. broke about that same time in '89........ ergo the comment about the guy being lost. Hey, if a guy is peeking on little girls, we think he's a pedophile. If he had been peeking in on the shower stalls at the Vienna Boys Choir, we'd think he was another kind of pedophile (NAMBLA member perhaps???) - so, the fact that this guy was peeking into an adult male's bedroom..... well, I dunno, I guess I didn't think of him as straight guy goes wild. But that's just me.
  8. 95% of the dimbulb waiters & waitresses who respond 'Heineken!' when you ask them what German beer they have on tap or in bottles. B-)
  9. Incredible that they've given him a clean 'neuro' bill of health. If one more circuit pops loose in this poor guy's melon it'll be difficult to tell him apart from a freshwater sponge. Ex-con, ex-champ Riddick Bowe eyes comeback Associated Press SHAWNEE, Oklahoma (AP) - Former heavyweight boxing champion Riddick Bowe is coming out of retirement after a 17-month prison stint, with a scheduled bout Sept. 25. His opponent has not yet been named for the fight at Fire Lake Casino, the casino said Thursday. Bowe (40-1, 32 knockouts), who turned 37 on Aug. 10, was released from federal prison in mid-May for kidnapping his first wife, Judy Bowe, and their five children in 1998. While in prison, Bowe reportedly lost 25-45 kilos (50-100 pounds) on a regimen that included daily 3-mile runs. During his trial, the judge barred Bowe from boxing because of possible brain damage, but according to Bowe's attorney, the order was withdrawn when he was released from prison. His attorney added that he is fit to box after undergoing neurological testing. In April, a judge dismissed a lawsuit filed against Bowe and his former manager, Rock Newman, by a photographer of Sports Illustrated magazine who says he was hurt eight years ago during mayhem after one of the boxer's bouts at Madison Square Garden. In June, Bowe was acquitted of assault charges after his current wife, Terri, and three other alleged victims failed to appear in court.
  10. When I lived up on Capitol Hill in the late 80's, I yanked open the window sheers one night and was horrified to discover some Fruit-of-the-Loom t-shirt clad guy staring back at me. I went out through the back alley after him....not to hurt him, but just to let him know that he'd mistakenly happened upon the wrong apt. and that Barney Frank's place was actually another two blocks over.
  11. Oh yeah! Right.....shoulda said opening track.
  12. As an aside, half of that line-up (Alexander/Farnsworth/Rotondi) also appear on this Venus release from '03. Title track is called 'Our Father Who Art Blaky'. Killer. Play it loud.
  13. Thanks Hans. Doesn't look bad imo. Now, if you picked up any of the previous Miles Sony/Col boxes in Tokyo, Metz or Buffalo....would you get the exact same packaging, or are there slight variations in the US/Euro & Jpn. designs (excepting the addition of an obi of course)?
  14. 25 2/3.........missing lps #5 & #6 from the Morgan vinyl set. Anyone with a partial wanna sell/trade for a few ??
  15. That's the reason why I hate "The Golden Gate Quartet"! That's the reason I hate beets and liver.
  16. Can someone please post a decent pic of the 'metal spines' in question? I've seen people complain about them over the years....but don't own any of those other Miles sets and have yet to see what the deal is with these.
  17. These were done around the late '60s or early '70s. Geez, looks like '68 & '69....glad you pointed that out. What was I ever thinkin'?
  18. I phoned your North Shore doc this afternoon and asked him to road test this baby on you next time you're in. Fukuoku Five Finger Massage Glove The famous fukuoku finger vibe now comes in a five finger glove that is waterproof! Low speed gives gentle stimulation- while high speed delivers approximately 45-000 vibrations per minute! Each finger vibrates to allow your whole hand to massage in synchronicity. Allows for versatility of touch because of the flexibility and variety of positions through which a hand can move.
  19. It's due out on 9/29 (and available for pre-order at Amazon Jpn)...don't know about the metal spine biz.
  20. Stashed away in some boxes are a couple of thousand color slides that I shot in Russia, China, Mongolia, Hong Kong (Bottoms Up Club anyone? ) Thailand, East Germany, Poland, etc..in the early/mid 80's and would very much like to transfer them to cd. Mostly 200 Ektrachrome...some Fuji & Agfa with an OLYMPUS OM-1. Anyone have any experience using any of the 35 mm film scanners that have appeared on the market? ...Canon, Minolta, Kodak, etc... ? Any kinks? Good time to take the plunge or better to wait a few more years?
  21. Just returned from the standard 'ol med. check-up and thought I'd share this. When the nurse went to put on the cuff to measure blood pressure I jokingly remined her about what happened last year when she put on the 'medium' rather than 'large 'cuff. She had a vague recollection of this and quickly switched 'em and put on the correct ('large') one. Blood pressure reading with the large cuff: 117/78. I then asked her to slap the 'medium' cuff back on for kicks and see if there'd be a difference. Yep...130/90. Exact same thing happened a year ago when they incorrectly came up with a 140/90 read before realizing they'd made a mistake. I wonder how many people are walking around thinking they have elevated blood pressure....but really don't?
