  1. scan several thousand photos & slides and burn to disc.......take a foreign language class........give Shorter's 'All Seeing Eye' one last spin & see if 'clicks'.
  2. Well fine then.....I'll just hijack this thread until you sort it all out. B-) ....soooooooo....continuing on w/that 'stealin' theme of yours, who out there has actually heard both the SACD & SONY remaster of this: Is the SACD really worth springing for??
  3. There should be a longest thread category......we've got that one covered.
  4. That's dreadful news. I'd get a kick out of how he'd periodically get all 'fired up' and hit the politics forum for a day or two at BN and this place and then disappear entirely for 60...90 days. Many a JRVG I picked up from him and in the years to come will most certainly think of him whenever I spin one. Best wishes to his immediate family.
  5. I'm figuring it'll last until the '007' marathon over on Spike. Wow, that Grace Jones certainly was a firmly built lass in 'A View to Kill' B-)
  6. Why? Did Soul Station go & resurrect that old BNBB thread of his?
  7. Well I picked up a case of the 2001 a couple years ago and didn't get a cd. We polished off two bottles at the Christmas table today......it's a very good medium dry (halbtrocken) Riesling. I'm not sure if the label design changes on an annual basis but here's a scan of the 2001 'Jazz' label for those who haven't seen it. It sure would make a nice looking 20 x 16" framed print. If only do-it-yourself lithography was as easy as burning a cd. B-)
  8. What? You talkin' about the Freeman/Earland master tape?
  9. When you get your copy, you'll notice that on "These Foolish Things" you can quite clearly hear the next sequence of notes under the regular sound. As relayed to me by another board member, the current speculation is that this is tape print and that the tape was probably wound too tight for too long.
  10. Re: the 'Do Not:' section of the report --- why would they advise against storing discs horizontally for years on end?
  11. I voted 'other' in favor of the Paul Bley Trio doing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" back in '53 (on the Fantasy/Prestige 'The Christmas Collection') which starts in with an obviously perturbed figure (Bley ?) trying to get things rolling in the studio. ("Let's go! ....Go, Go, I'm waiting!")
  12. Excited to hear Simmons/Bright and Goraguer!! 13. Thank goodness he didn't catch sight of the $8.25 item or the streets would be filled with blood.
  14. Although the one guy over at JC is slightly off the mark (Sprey did not design anything while over at the Pentagon....had nothing to do with anti-tank rounds & there was no 'A-1 Bomber') his overall comments are not surprising....you should hear what some of the guys who worked with him back in the early 80's on various defense-related projects have to say about him. It's impossible to begin to estimate the number of long knives that are out for that duplicitous character.
  15. I also ordered a bunch......wish I hadn't listened to the clips of the Lou Bennett one over at AmazonFr though. That "Peter's Waltz" is pure roller rink gone nutso.
  16. Wow...amazing! I saw this article recently about these guys down south who're real big on 'noodling' --- stand around in the muddy water and reach down into all sorts of holes on the bottom and wiggle their fingers hoping for a big cat to seize their hand so they can then wrestle 'em to the surface. Geez, some 40 lb catfish suddenly engulfs part of your lower forearm.....what a blast! Then every once in awhile you stick those fingers in the hole and there's a snapper in there who quickly removes a couple of 'em!! Even better!!!
  17. Just two ('Art Pepper + 11' and the Guaraldi Trio 'Charlie Brown Christmas')...the Venus cds are a higher priority these days.
  18. Sidewinder, the Sextet is swinging through D.C. in late-Jan w/Terence Blanchard, John Hicks and Javon Jackson now listed as being on board......soooo? I'm sure going to make every effort to hit this one.
  19. ...and despite the fact that I said Maurice Vander (per the Dreyfus cd) above....is it not actually Vandair?
  20. Great, that 'No Problem' disc sounds fantastic! They don't come much better than 'Our Father Who Art Blaky'! Any additional One for All sessions in the pipeline? Did you have a hand in the latest Mabern Trio ("Fantasy") release (last month?)?
  21. The Clarke-Wilkins is a great cd and a tough find these days...but if you search around you're bound to find a copy, Marine. That, and several of the Fuller Savoys (Jazz Eyes, Jazz, It's Magic) have popped up on the Amazon site in recent months. The two that I'd like to see come out on cd are 'Klook's Clique' and the excellent 'Paris/Cologne' double LP (Disques Swing) that collects four '57 sessions recorded in Paris & Cologne featuring Clarke in a quartet, quintet, sextet, octet and tentet w/folks like Lucky Thompson, Martial Solal, Don Byas, Pierre Michelot, Fats Sadi, Maurice Vander, etc.. You ever spot this one sitting in an LP bin, dive for it!
