The shocker of all shockers is that I collect beer glasses from europe. I'm up in the 200 range or so but fast running out of shelf space. The gold-rimmed glasses are the ones I'm usually interested in but they're not as plentiful as they once were. I've been known to trade jazz cds in exchange for nice gold-rimmed ones that I don't have. PM if interested. B-)

The whole Barbie as gift thing for young children is interesting. Most small children really don't have the manual dexterity required to easily manipulate some of the maddeningly small Barbie items let alone properly 'work' some of the tight shoes, boots, pants, etc. As a result, most kids get terribly frustrated....which is why zillions of nude dolls are strewn across playroom floors coast-to-coast! Adults who should know better (I've been guilty of this as well) buy these things by the boatload and it's the rare 2 or 3-year-old party that doesn't have 'Barbie' popping out of every other gift bag. Reason: they're cute....and it's easy. Most parents who've been running ragged all week and are veterans of the B'Day party circuit just want to reach for something that's a safe bet and get on with the rest of the weekend. IMO kids start giving/receiving Barbie way too early....it should start up around age 5......or even 6.

Cuscuna relayed info about Alfred Lion squirreling away in the vault a bunch of tape copies of Tempo masters, and wondered aloud if they might contain unissued material....and about the possibility of a Hayes/Complete Jazz Couriers Mosaic Select using Tempo/Carlton material. Sounded interesting. I should find that thread.

Actually, with Venus titles, the mini-lps cost less than the jewel-boxes. NY Trio 'Blues in the Night' TKCV-35154 (mini-lp) ￥2,375 = $22.95. TKCV-35097 (jewel) ￥2,661 = $25.72 So, if the choice is the mini-lp or the Cadence jewel for $20, I'm likely to go for the mini-lp and pay a few extra bucks. You wanna make something of it?

'Cause Cadence doesn't have certain titles like One For All's 'No Problem", Hick's 'Moanin', etc...........nor any mini-lps.

If you buy one $22 Venus from Cadence and they ship to Germany, you'll pay about $28 versus a total of $33 from Amazon Japan. But, if you buy 2 from Cadence, you'll drop $59........just about the same as Amazon JP would hit you for. Then again, maybe you'd opt to buy the $20 cds? ...so you'll have to re-work the math. B-)

Got a great Korean grocery (it's huge..has everything!) store down the road that I swing into once a week. So...tonite it's Japanese noodle (Udon) w/sliced barbecued pork rib & baby bok choy and a steamed pork bun with a beer. I mix some sesame oil w/soy and a mild spicy bean paste for a sauce.
