  1. This is an excellent box set. Maigret, who's out prowling the streets of Paris, is quite the wry & charming character....one who, much like Inspector Morse, also enjoys his beer. They do a nice job of character development...
  2. That's what we need this icon for. Better lobby 'ol Jim.
  3. Has the window of opportunity for new icons slammed shut? Might these work? (don't screw with me) ????? (let this thread die) ????? (LMAO) ?
  4. No, that's reserved for you for failing to fall head over heels for Niehaus' 'I Remember You'. The kid gets to hang in the boat w/me on a little lake in Lutsen that Aggie87 has been secretly stocking for me. 'Sonny, my lure's snagged on that submerged log 'bout five feet down...be a good lad and unhook it for 'ol Uncle Weiz, would ya...' B-)
  5. So what happened in the staff meeting when you answered 'neither'? Get demoted?
  6. That kid just needs a couple of fishing trips to Minnesota.........he'll be okay.
  7. <<<Any suggestions for a new CD player?>>> Yes, the ARCAM CD73. While they say you should never trust the opinion of one reviewer, I'd say that this reviewer has pretty much pegged it -- "it" being everything minus the power cord biz which I don't mess aroud with. I'm quite pleased with this unit. http://202.186.86.35/audio/story.asp?file=...diofile/23arcam
  8. <<<What do you consider yourself?>>> Not too swift of a guy because I keep pronouncing Grachan Moncur III's name 'GRACKEN'.
  9. They should 'fix' the Gordon Select comment section where some guy from Netherlands shows up in triplicate. Must have been couw after too many Dunkel-Weizens. "Pity the taxman added an extra 25 dollars to the parcel on arrival". Ouch!!!
  10. Ether, The Vol. 5 Quintet you covet can now be had over at Red Trumpet for $17 which is pretty good for a mini-lp. They also have the Mike Cuozzo 'MM' Savoy mini-lp for $9.99 which is completely insane. Ball, Costa & Clarke for $9.99? Waste not a moment...
  11. At one point they put out a ltd. issue gold cd that included both volumes of 'Live @ Vanguard' and it soon disappeared. I hope they bring that one back.
  12. Maren, Sounds like a nice gift that he made for you....and probably a bit difficult to make due to the size and all. I love to build these little things and basically use scraps & whatever's lying around. Problem I have is a limited tool supply -- basic bare bones collection w/your standard screwdrivers, hammer, couple of hand saws, power drill and various ancient odds & ends scattered about. Pre-Xmas '99, I managed to steal away to the garage for a few weeks and build a dollhouse from scratch. It certainly wouldn't win any design awards and Martha Stewart would undoubtedly let out a shriek in horror at the color combo trainwreck ...but it was alot of fun to put together. I built it atop a coffee table because I aways see kids having to bend way over in order to see (or do much) on the first floor....so thought it would be best to raise things a bit so that they could sit there and peer right in. Picked up some various carpet end pieces at a local shop and found some miniature picture frames for the walls and a small plastic fireplace on eBay. Also used some old floral pattern dining room wallpaper that came from my great-grandmother's house up in Boston. Believe it or not, the thing that gave me the most trouble was the stupid chimney..... trying to hand hold the small block of wood and make a perfect 'V' cut so that it would properly meet the slope of the roof was a royal pain. I think I did it four or five times over. I should really bag the cd collecting and get a decent set of tools.
  13. It is...just appeared yesterday. One thing I noticed on the label is that it says '22-bit remastering'. I don't think I've ever seen anything with 22-bit......is this just flat out wrong? MassMan With Golden Arm, Yes, you did indeed warn me. B-)
  14. Yes, thanks Kulu S.... that virtual debit card deal is pretty slick....just used it to buy my spousal unit a raincoat. Now if only I could get her to find something for me at Mosaic. Perhaps if they'd scrap the baseball hat and the goofy mouse pad and market instead a nice black men's tie with random 1 1/2" square pics of various b/w box set covers on it....Parlan, Byrd/Adams, Morgan/Shorter, Mulligan.....
  15. I honestly can't recall anyone laying down the kind of blistering guitar that Moore does on this G-Force tune. It's unreal.
  16. Now THAT'S impressive. B-) Next project: bear down on that rusty Evans Verve wall safe and turn 'er into a fabric covered hat box. Do you like the concept?
  17. We've got a Kit & Samantha living here. Wife & I made the mistake of entering the American Girl shop up on 5th Ave. last fall and wound up getting 3 or 4 outfits for each doll w/matching hats, mittens, etc. (that's alotttta cds .). It's an amazing shop, an entire section devoted to each doll and an eye-popping number of detailed outfits....the little flip-flops w/the bathrobe are a riot. Turns out my neighbor down the street is a consultant for the company and she does things like authenticate the various period undergarments. I then managed to dodge the 'let's buy a wardrobe for the clothes!!' bullet by working a little magic with some wood dowels & a few French wine crates from the basement. Voila!! My advice to you is to break out the hand tools and start building some 'stuff' or you'll go broke acquiring all the roll top desks, beds & wardrobe sets in triplicate
  18. The thing that really amazes me about this is not so much that someone came up with the idea -- half-baked ideas are floated in corporate boardrooms, ad agencies, etc on a daily basis -- but that there wasn't a clear thinking realist in the room who chimed in and said something like: 'well, you get an 'A' for creativity...but do we really want the consumer -- who, in all likelihood, inhabits the semi-finicky end of the music appreciation spectrum -- to actually get rust on his/her hands each & every time they access the set?' Hello? Simply amazing.
  19. I'll sell it to you -- still freshly packaged & as beautiful as an East Boston scrap yard -- for a mere $149.99.
  20. The X-Mas material is the best stuff on that set imho.
  21. Universal Music warrants a permanent ignore for sending this ridiculous rusted hulk.
