  1. I presume you've already seen the Ike sitting over at eBay Deutschland, yes? Nice little sealed collection that guy has there. Hans must have driven over the border to sell off his duplicates? I don't recall ever seeing a sealed copy of that 'Groove' show up on any eBay site. Not my gig though..I'm not into cowbells.
  2. Well that's fair...but again, how was I to know? Moose won't send me the 'okay/not okay to say' manual. That's why I asked. If Wheel says that some steroetyping is okay....cool, I'll just file it away.
  3. Well, obviously the Wheel wasn't sure himself and thus had to check with someone else....and he's 20 years younger than I and presumably a bit more plugged into the current culture 'scene'. Mark, the fiction bit you're trying to float is sub-par... "using it in a work of fiction (perhaps to indicate that the speaker is anti-gay?) may be intentionally offensive to ellicit an emotional response on the part of the viewer" I guess you have never seen the show. Established African-American character, says it matter of factly....and in the context of what would a gay guy be doing picking up a female hooker. As such, no one in the regular viewing audience is going to sit there and think 'hell, I really thought I knew these professionals....but that black investigator and the female detective who agreed with him are really both wicked homophobes'. He walks into a man's house and says 'Anyone else's gaydar going off?', which obviously means that he has picked up various cues -- the place is neat & tidy and they are looking at how it's decorated, inferring it was done like a gay man would decorate. So how exactly would the gay man decorate? Talk about your stereotypical assumptions. And I thought you guys were all so opposed to stereotyping. Now your arguement about how it may have been said to be "intentionally offensive" ... well, that's why I brought it up. And since our expert in Cambridge says it is not offensive, I guess the best thing to say about that is, wrong-o!
  4. That's funny...you don't usually come off like an ignorant twit... Hey sweetums, I took the liberty of ordering 100 cartons of the non-filter Lucky Strikes from the board's new smoke salesman and am having 'em shipped to you. Enjoy. I actually had no idea that 'gaydar' wasn't in the 'not okay' column of the ever changing 'ok/not okay to say' list and bet there are others on this board who are in the same boat. There some reference manual you receive with your cherished subscription to TV Guide that keeps you up to speed on the current slight-of-the-month? B-)
  5. Calling Cambridge!! Calling Cambridge!! Come on....give us an answer!! Can't you at least give us a few issues that the bi-sexual community would be interested in? What would they lobby for?
  6. Oh great! Well if he's still sitting there, say 'hi' from the gang on the board....and then ask him what he thinks about the transgender biz on the ever expanding banner: Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Transgender.." Are these the cross dressers or those who've had sex change operations? ...and why is this particular group now a part of the movement? I've also never understood why the bi-sexual crowd is in there? How can you be discriminated against if you swing both ways? I mean, when does it happen --- when you're playing the straight role, or the gay role....and who's checking? Are we talking occasional discrimination? --- patiently awaiting the final verdict from Cambridge. B-)
  7. How's the 'Hairsplitting 101' course going for you up there in Cambridge? I took that one and received an A- on my senior thesis: "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is".
  8. That's the way it goes with homophobic comments sometimes...darn planet! Heck, when the CSI gang entered an assistant DA's home in LA last night, one of the technicians (Warrick) said: "anyone else's gaydar going off?". They really should reprimand the conservative republican writer that penned that line, huh?
  9. I have to admit that, after 'breaking down' the Chambers/Kelly box into the individual discs (Kelly Great, Kelly at Midnight, etc) bundled up w/artwork and all, I've been playing (and enjoying) 'em a good bit more. Question for Vee-Jayophiles: which is the original cover?
  10. How about The Kitano at the corner of Park & E. 38th -- nice little jazz lounge on the 2nd floor for you to slip down to once the little one is in bed. Weekend rates aren't bad ($250).
  11. Upon whom shall we exact our revenge? B-)
  12. A shame if they deep-six that Manne 'Son of Gunn'.
  13. Weizen, a Portuguese label by the name of 'Exclusive' reissued vinyls of both Zoot albums. Obrigado to them B-) Cookin' and Solo for Zoot were both recorded at Ronnie Scott's. There were some overlap. Cookin' tracks were: - Stompin' at the Savoy - Love for Sale - Somebody Loves Me - Gone with the Wind - Autumn Leaves - Desperation Solo for Zoot had: - Blues in E Flat - Somebody Loves Me - Stompin' at the Savoy - Autumn Leaves Found some additional track info on the two Zoot Fontanas. Bought 'Cookin' on eBay last night. Does that Portuguese LP also have 'Haunted Jazz Club' and 'Harry Flicks' on it? Now what about that 'Stretching Out' LP? Never re-issued on cd?
  14. 'Twas two-hundred forty nights before Christmas with Wes snug in bed....while visions of sledgehammer wielding rice sugar-plum fairies danced in his head....
  15. That could be. There are also a handful of TOCJs ('Here to Stay' & 'Jubilee Shout') that, for some strange reason, never made it into the JRVG column.
  16. Thanks for the suggestions. Wound up buying a spool of 100 Verbatims from Buy.com and tacked on a Shelly Manne 'Navy Swings' cd I'd been eying in order to hit the free shipping mark. A $34 total w/fs seemed pretty good. I hope those Verbatims aren't mush.
  17. I hope you had at least two of the Spaten or Hofbrau Maß in the east village? B-)
  18. This what the three of them look like unclothed??
  19. yes...all I get is what are they doing?
