Unless heading to a club or just leaving one, I've hardly ever seen her on television that she doesn't have some large sugar laced something or other in her hands, it's like she is on a perpetual sugar high. Ever been around anyone who's hypoglycemic? They can just act bonkers, totally normal one second and going off the next, add in alcohol and/or any other mind altering substance and you have a real sick person on your hands. I think the girl needs to detox; mostly from an inproper diet, and I would bet you'd see a different Britney. Her everyday habits are enough to change anyone's personality for the worse. Then throw in the fact that she has never not worked for her living since she was a little girl, never having had the chance to have a normal childhood and life, well, we're seeing the results and with child stars, this is all too common. It's almost as if we should expect it to be this way.

God Speed, and may this tragedy in your life become more tolerable with each passing day, week, and month. Let yourself grieve and let yourself remember the wonderful joyous times as well. How wonderful to be able to remember those times, and to have such good thoughts. Just don't rush into any decisions until times are much better for you, as things can look good and can turn out to be no more than diversions from reality, which will come rushing back, and perhaps change your perspective on choices you may or may not have made. My best to you. This is heartbreaking to learn of. I'm hoping for you that all turns out well as can be in such a life's happening. Sandi

I'm not suggesting boards aren't important places. I am suggesting that sometimes we become so immersed in them that we lose perspective. Lord knows I have.... And are you serious about being bitten by a brown recluse? Holy crap - that's serious. One reason I'm glad not to live somewhere that poisonous critters are common.....I hope that you get that attended to.....is there nowhere closer that can deal with something like this? I've been bitten by one before and it was more tha a little bit serious, my whole leg from below the knee felt like hamburger and it was impossible to put any weight on it without suffering excruiating pain. It was flaming red, my whole leg up to my knee, with a black round spot where the bite was on the side of my calf, I mean totally black. I know how to treat it. In three days with the earlier bite, the redness was gone and in no time at all the black spot had cleared up. I cured the bite up before myself with Penicillin G and DMSO, this time I'm using DMSO and OxyTet, a strong injectible tetracycline antibiotic. With DMSO you can use some injectibles topically. It works wonders. Penicillin G mixed with DMSO worked perfectly, but they've taken it off the market as it was for children and they've come up with a medication which is stronger which they say works better on infants, toddlers and others who are young. EDIT: I'd added onto this post, but I must have hit a wrong button, will explain it later If I ever get back to it. But yes, I feel I need to go elsewhere for treatment due to how doctors and our hospitals staff have done things in the past. I've had some wonderful doctors and nurses here, but have had others do permanent damage. Serious damage, where I couldn't walk for five years without falling, so no, I'm not going to trust my health to St. Charles or any doctors up here who deal with this sort of thing. My good doctors were surgeons and this doesn't warrant their type of skill, not so far, ha.

EDIT ADDITION" There are closer places, but my experiences here have been life threatening and not too professional on a few doctors and nurses parts. I've had wonderful doctors here, and wonderful nurses, then there's the other side of the story which has been very dangerous, and I'm still going through problems doctors and nurses have caused, and I mean it's been serious. The last time I had bone infection in my foot, I had to point out the bone area that was affected in the X-Rays, not one of the so called top orthopaedic/sports doctors could spot it. My doctor down in Santa Monica at St. Johns Doctor Boeck said any first year intern could have picked it up. Then there was the grimacing and the fact that even with gloves he was repulsed by my foot, he was turning his face sideaways, curling up his lip and only touching my foot with one gloved finger, and then only with the tip. There was no odor from it whatsoever, no excretement, just an area that looked like a severe wound, just a deep hole. He said it was beyond him he didn't have the knowledge to work on it. He was so unprofessional that I was stunned by his actions. There's other cases in Bend at St. Charles Medical Center, where I've actually been injured by a doctor, this while in the hospital. He wasn't even my doctor, so I feel I'm taking my life in my hands here and I'm totally comfortable with the treatment available at St. John's and at UCLA in Southern California. Those two hospitals and their doctors are the best, and you know, they are in one of the higher rent districts in the country, and they, as well as the doctors were so much less expensive, you wouldn't believe it. Central Oregon, well, there's good and their's bad, and I've seen both, but unfortunately, I've seen the extremes in tha later. Their actions are still at play as far as my overall health goes.

At this time, there's a whole lot of rawness to my emotions and my attitude as well. I've so much on my plate, moving and all that goes with it, a legal hassle, and as you know, these things are, or can be a pain, and talk about pain, my foot is looking as though I've been bitten by a brown recluse from my ankle, back of my heel down to my toes are terribly inflamed, red, purple and black, and strutted out swollen, however, I thought this started out with a minor injury, now I'm not so sure, but if things don't improve within the next few days, it looks as though I'm going to have to head down to UCLA, which is over a thousand miles away and I'm hoping that this will clear itself up with the treatments at hand. When you say, in so many words; there's more to life than these web sites, that's more than true. When they become a mood changing distraction then it's hardly worth it, but then there are lots of members who make these places interesting, informative and fun, so there's trade off's I suppose, ones that oftentimes make it worth the hassle.

I repeat: John banned Chris; Mike banned Lonson. if you want to criticize someone, at least do it for things they've done, not the doings of others. I should have said "Moderator", or Moderators and separated the two mentioned, Chris and Lonson. I hadn't known Lonson was banned until MG let me know that was why he himself had left the board. I did know it was Mike who banned him and was surprised to learn of it, as I always knew Mike to be fair and even handed. It was then that I started following and checking back on members who hadn't shown up in a while; that a lot had gone on that I'd missed. It seemed by a lot of Johns comments on posts that Lonson and Chris had put onboard, that he was into their thoughts enough to have been part of what had happened. I think that things get too personal, that it's hard to separate a valid funtion from one's own hard held attitudes. I have to believe, just from my own perspective that there are people on sites such as these that anyone of us might not be able to stand, and wouldn't miss them one bit it they were to not post a word, but we don't hold the ban button, nor would we want to. I have no desire to ban those I disagree with. I have no desire to ban a member, one I really don't understand or care for; ones whose posts rub me the wrong way. Viva la difference.

That is him isn't it? He looks really healthy and good in this and younger than ever. It says Gatemouth Brown on the guitar. I tried to see it, but couldn't make it out, thought it said David Lee Roth, ha! I started thinking, that can't be Chuck and went back to it later as I pretty much knew for certain it could't be.

As I stated over there, how can "Clave" aka "Ellen" go back under the rules set down for her and retain her dignity? It's a tough call, neither party wanting to acquiesce. It wasn't handled soon enough, that's been my thought and Mikes as well he tells me. Everyone has stewed on it and it's grown and grown into a Macy's Parade monster, banging in to everyone standing about. Mike has told me he wished it had been handled differently, just as all of us have. But then there's Lonson and Chris having been banned, it did seem personal, not for the boards overall health. Those two alone have me backing everything Chris's saying, I don't believe Chris or Lonson were handled fairly by John. It were as if, there's those darned trees, when we all want to see is the forest. I don't think John looks at the broader picture, too many pre-existing objects, as well as thoughts are in his field of vision and between his rationale. I like that board, it's been a good place to be, but things are changing dramatically, and not just due to moderators, those of you who have frequented it, must see it as I do, if not, well we're coming from a different place.

I don't think it gets much better than that. yeah, well, every adolescent jazz fan's wet dream... now about stream control, I just had one Leffe too much, but then I'm still easily as much a bloke as Mr. Beverly This has most certainly turned into one of the funniest (and silliest) threads we've seen... A friend and myself have been the shower and sink routine, it's a long story. It was either that or ruin the white Karastan carpet.

Digression thread: Coherence is overrated

How pretty MG. The photo's you sent to me of the village near where you live, with the hills all golden, it looks like up above where we lived in California, up in the "Gold Country" where they had so many gold strikes. Rolling hills with Oak trees everywhere, with Chinese built rock fences criss crossing the ranches. We used to go up there just for drives and to see the scenery, that before a day long trip cost an arm and a leg due to gas prices.

I was up fairly late last night, Pacific Time Zone, and it was down then as well, not sure just what time it was, but it was down for hours evidently. Not sure if it was PM or AM when I first noticed it.

The Paris apartment you mention sounds very nice, but my GOD, this looks pretty dreamy to me. The snow photo and this one is really pretty and it would have to be wonderful living there. That is if I didn't have to navigate on the ice, or in fog. We've had both conditions in places we've lived, and right now, we have ths snow. it's beautiful, but ranch life isn't like going on a skiing trip. Regardless of whatever else is going on in your life, there's livestock to care for, even when it's 27 below, you can't not feed and water, or treat an injury or an illness they might develop. When there's snow on the ground, or when it goes below zero, Costa Rica looks better each and every day.

Look up Diego Villasenor, his places are grand, and open, and when not, they still give an open impression as his spacial concepts are so well put together, with water, color, and furninshing's doing their magic as well. I was going to post a few links for his designs here, but it kept sending me to the upload an attachment page, and the pictures I've saved along with their script are too large for this thread, so I need to redo some things and upload some of them here once I get to it.

A friend of mine sent me a classified ad and photo of Volkswagen Beatle someone was advertising, saying "One Owner, 10 Original Miles, or close to it, telling in a cute way as to the condition of the car, and the funny mileage situation, and such. Then it showed the picture, It was a dark blue, There sat the advertised bug on a small rock of an island, at the foot of a lighthouse with a tiny drive way, no room to turn around. It had only been used in storms to pick up groceries and supplies when a boat would bring them over to the lighthouse tender from the mainland. It had as many miles in reverse as it had in forward motion. I had saved the ad, but lost it in a crash.

Sure, but if not wanting to live there, checking out the country should be fun for you and your family, as there's so much to do that you're into, surfing, fishing, golf, and then there's hiking, and all sorts of adventure sports, canopy exploring, seeing the top of the rainforest on cable lines. Visit the beaches they say, but stay up in the higher lands for the weather, that's where National Geographic tells us there's the best weather in the world. I always thought it was in the Mediterranean, and for me, it was along the coast in Southern California.

Flugel Horn, Coronet, or if you prefer, Cornet. Shorty Rogers was known for it and it was said there was no one better on it, even that he was the best. You were in for a special treat when it was being played. He would be in a special frame of mind when he would unpack it and put a final polish on it before playing, funny, but Clark Terry would do the same. Such beauty those little horns could give you when in either mans hands.

Too unstable a part of the World for me. Besides, I figure on hanging it up in five or six years. I lived in the valley Tim, and I would venture to say there's more danger where you are than in Costa Rica. It's not like their neigbors to the north, and depending on where you live, it's really much better than a lot of places here in the states. I just know that much of the country is so unique, and ex-pats have the same rights as the Tico's, even the same access to state funded medical treatments. Surfing all up and down the coast, beautiful beaches, unique (to us) wild life and some of the most beautiful skys you've ever seen. There are trade offs for sure, pot holes in the roads, rains which wash them out, heat and humidity in parts of the country, and there isn't a supermarket every mile or so, but that's ok too. Education is very important to them, so they did away with their army and spend the money that would ordinarily be spent on it on education and their infrastructure, and the statistics on education are astounding in what one thinks of as a third world country. Their literacy rate is quite high and climbing. Hey Tim, no fog! Just rain cloud rain banks, nothing like that tullie fog in the valley.

One big difference I notice at jazz gigs today - as opposed to half a century ago when I first started listening - is how many women there are now taking an active interest in the music. No longer just "chicks" on guys' arms, as in the old days. There's more women interested in jazz today than yesteryear because jazz is considered more of a hobby or sideline than before. There's not as much "danger" that a guy will pursue it to feed the family. The ladies don't need to distance themselves, or lead the guys away from jazz. Scoot over in that cave, BillF. I was really into jazz from 15 on. I played it in the morning when I got out of bed, took the three steps over to my record player playing my favorites, or I turned on a jazz station on the radio. I did my homework to jazz. If I couldn't sleep, I'd get up and walk down to the Lighthouse, catching their last sets. After my lessons in the morning, around ten thirty, I'd walk down to the beach, take a swim and then walk to the Lighthouse, or when cold, I just go straight there and catch Miles and his band practicing. On weekends, my friends and I would catch the early morning surf and then head off to the Lighthouse once again to catch the headliners for the weekend. We were into jazz like you wouldn't believe. Jazz and our R&B's favorites, but jazz was our main love. All of us girls and just a couple of fellows who liked it as well were really into it, and about five of us practically lived there, but due to me having home schooling and no early hours to keep, I had more time to go there. It was wonderful and what an unbelievable experience. I had the time of my life. Ocean living and live jazz, how much better could it get? Sandi from Hermosa Beach

Well, thank you! You are greatly encouraged to post in other threads while you're here.. Have been looking at the Conference call thread on AAJ, clearly the heat is still on, mainly because folk there seem to like, or can't resist, pouring gasoline on the fire. I wish they would calm down because I would hate to lose the AAJ board even though I like the big O one too. There's even a photo of the great Sir Menzies Campbell trying to mediate in this current jazz debacle and pointing out where AAJ BB might be heading if it doesn't straighten itself out soon... We're just backfiring to save the village. Sandi from Hermosa Beach

Thanks. So I was right about that after all? Interesting... That again is a bit odd, since at least on my CD copy of "Swinging Sounds" it clearly says "Vol. 4". Maybe that wasn't anywhere to be seen on the LP? It's not part of the cover artwork at least. Not always so unusual, as the thing is, there were lots of sit ins and recording dates that lots of jazz men recorded under other labels than the one they were obligated to contractually, especially in clubs with their own recording systems. The Lighthouse had theirs and recordings were made when I was there that were never released, recordings which I would give anything to have.

Shelly Manne played at the Lighthouse when I first started going there, Playing there during that time period was Jimmy Guiffre Shorty Rodgers, and Howard Rumsey. I can't recall who was on piano at that time, perhaps Marty Paitch. He was also playing with Sonny Rollins when he came out with his Way Out West Album. Usually Sonny and Max Roach were together, but he and Shelly played a lot together as well. I don't have it, so he may not be the same drummer, but I believe Sonny recorded it with Shelly at a studio and didn't just play it with Shelly for that day. I saw them introduce it live at the Lighthouse, Sonny in his super nice cowboy gear, hat and all, and I have to say, he looked terrific. That was a super fun day.

My dream home would be in a warm place quite close to the ocean, a view of it, it being the Pacific. There would be an infinity pool, a "rancho", which is what they call an outdoor kitchen and dining area south of the border, it would be a split level with artistic meandering curving stairways with wonderful colors playing up the architectural interest, a tile roof, as the palapas are known for their bugs and such, and they do have to be refurbished every few years. There would be outdoor living areas with built in sitting and and little niches here and there, all scattered around the sides of the house, and if I could afford it, it would be a Diego Villasenor home, they are out of this world, they suit what I would want more than anything I've yet to see. I would be in my own little heaven. I mean really.

Bob Cooper of the "Lighthoue All Stars" played basson and he was terrific on it. Just look up The "Lighthouse All Stars" on google, and "Lighthouse Live Recordings", or even type in say Benny Golson Live at the Lighthouse or any one you favor from that era, and you will find a lot of overlooked performances, and in all likelihood of some of your favorite jazz men from the 50's and 60's. A lot was recorded there and with them in a few studio settings, and then there were recordings which were never released due to contractual obligations and would I ever love to get my hands on those. He probably even wrote music just for it as he was prolific, or so it seemed to me.

I just see he's wearing his Lighthouse Hawaiin shirt which they all wore before they removed the Island decorations. This around 1953, 54, or so. Much of those years were spent at the Lighthouse, Shorty being one of the Lighthouse All Star's first members. I just know he was an amazing talent and would bring the house down when he played his coronet, such a beautiful sound. He was the master on it. Sandi
