  1. Well, he wasn't doing carpentry his last 3 years, so those hands had plenty of time to heal.
  2. Joe Pass today, one of my top ten. You lucky dog! You already got your gift?
  3. Well, I just learned that those Verve sessions are on the Argo Mosaic. I guess Verve gobbled up Argo, so it's one and the same. I was able to preview entire tracks in Rhapsody using my free monthly allotment (no more lala ), and was entirely blown away. I've pre-ordered both of these sets today. Thanks for the encouragement!
  4. Thanks, KH. Those samples are excellent! If the Mosaic is as good as that Verve title, I'm in.
  5. I've never ordered a box set from deepdiscount. Do they place the Mosaic Selects in a box or try to stuff them in a cheap bubble envelope? I hate receiving a Select from outside of Mosaic and it comes all banged up. I got one that way from J&R. Never again with those guys.
  6. That Mosaic Select looks promising. I'm not so sure about the Ahmad Jamal. Nine CDs with no horns. One CD filled with strings and guitar.
  7. We should have an eBay Good Deal thread. Here's one I discovered this morning. I have no idea who the seller is, but if I were a Four Freshman fan, I'd jump all over this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150450453679&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123 Sounds like a completely mint package, including free priority shipping, for less than the original retail price.
  8. I did a search for Mosaic Select and was surprised to see many selections, a couple that are seemingly in stock at Borders but on backorder at Mosaic until this fall, notably Onzy Matthews and Pendulum. With the coupon BeBop posted, the total before tax but with free shipping is only $35 and change. Not bad.
  9. I was going through Art Pepper - Mosaic Select 15 today and adding some more information to iTunes when I came across this statement in the Mosaic discography (also here in PDF): First thing I did was listen to the track and thought, well then, who's playing alto? I'm guessing the discography meant to say the track didn't include Bill Perkins on tenor.
  10. Thanks for that bit of info, John. You're the third person on this forum to verify the numbers are in the last hundred possible, and yet the set is not even in Running Low status. Go figure.
  11. 40% until 5/29
  12. First question I have is... what were the serial numbers on the Mobleys? An anxious public is dying to know if this blundering warehouse has exceeded the 7,500 set limit!
  13. Before I went hog-wild for jazz and completely shelved my rock-n-roll collection (as a result of some strange mid-life crisis), I was a little into jazz. Weird thing is, outside of this forum, I know no one, and I mean no one, who really likes jazz. I can't explain it. I find myself a loner with this strange obsession, not to mention bizarre all-things-Mosaic altar in my work cubicle (plastered with spare DHL-damaged box tops).
  14. Yes, right at the 4:03 mark it sounds like a stray trumpet note.
  15. Yes, I agree I have an untrained and "ignorant" ear for this style of jazz. I hope one day I can say otherwise. Truly, I do. I've got a long way to go. I don't even "get" Charles Mingus, if you'll forgive me. I know, I know. Shameful!
  16. That makes two of us. Let's form a club? We'll call it the 'Let's Throw It Overboard Without Pausing To Seek Counsel From The Learned Club' LOL! I obviously don't have the ear for free jazz (yet). In high school we used to call such a cacophony of sounds "warming up".
  17. Actually, there have been a handful of others: 5 CD Teddy Wilson 7 CD Oscar Peterson (okay, one of those CDs was quartet) and the mother of all trio sets: 18 CD Nat King Cole
  18. I'd have to agree. I have no interest in free jazz Braxton or Threadgill, and if the Rivers set is anything beyond mild avant-garde, it'll be a no-go for me as well. The only other offering this year is... 9 CDs of piano trio. You've gotta be kidding me. I guess I'll have to find my jazz fix elsewhere.
  19. I'm pretty sure offering a second chance only works for the highest bid if an item doesn't sell, or second-to-highest bid if it did sell (and you had identical copies). So that would be $66 and $64, respectively, not including shipping and handling.
  20. Jimmy Giuffre - Complete Capitol & Atlantic Recordings. Sublime!
  21. If that number is correct, then this set should be hitting "Running Low" or "Last Chance" in the very near future. Are you sure that first digit is a "7"? Yes, if that number is correct, I would strongly suggest that anyone on this board who hasn't yet bought the Mobley, do so now! Perhaps there was another mix-up at headquarters and we'll soon be receiving another bad news email. On the other hand, you may have gotten the guy with the bad penmanship.
  22. Thanks, Ron! It's going on my wish list. Well, I ordered the U.S. edition through Borders the other day. I absolutely love the music but am disappointed in the cheap packaging. A sturdy, black glossy box (good), but inside the box each CD is in its own plain black paper, dime-a-dozen sleeve. What the heck? I only put CD-R's in paper sleeves. Whoever placed the CDs in the sleeves at the factory left hairline scratches in the process. This is what we get for $70 retail, $103 for the import? Since when are slimline jewel cases too expensive?
  23. I still can't fathom how you could send her a brand new, but opened product, but she claimed it had been used and tampered with, and she somehow proved it via photo documentation (which I assume was shared with you in this dispute), enough to convince PayPal.
  24. Frankly, I'm shocked, shocked... ... that you haven't listened all the way through that desert-island Bud Shank set. ... that you are offering such a great deal on that Buddy De Franco.
